Ambrose F. Whalley, 91, of Dartmouth, died Sunday February 4, 2007 at Taber Street Nursing Home after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the husband of the late Marion E. (Lackie) Whalley; they had been married for 65 years.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Albert E. and Ethel L. (Henry) Whalley, he lived in New Bedford and Dartmouth most of his life.
He was a member of Smith Mills Congregational Church, where he was an elder deacon and member of the church choir.
Mr. Whalley was formerly employed as a physical therapist aide at St. Luke's Hospital for 20 years. He had also been the proprietor of Whalley's Rest Home in Acushnet.
He was a volunteer at Dartmouth Council on Aging and was active in church activities. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
His family would like to thank his extended family at Taber Street Nursing Home.
Survivors include a son, Wayne F. Whalley and his wife Patricia of Dartmouth; a daughter, Donna L. Hebert and her husband Paul Erickson of Dartmouth; a sister, Vivian H. Whalley of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Patricia Livesey and her husband Scott, and Christopher Hebert and his fiancée Lynne Gomes; three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, and Brendan Livesey; a nephew, Charles Adams; a cousin, Charles Mills; and numerous other nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late June Adams.

Marion E. (Lackie) Whalley, 88, of Dartmouth died Friday March 26, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was the wife of Ambrose F. Whalley; they had been married for 65 years.
Born in Acushnet , the daughter of the late David F. and Leonora (Tripp) Lackie, she had lived in Dartmouth for most of her life.She was a member of Smith Mills Congregational Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild.
Mrs. Whalley was formerly employed as a nurse's aide at St. Luke's Hospital, and had been the proprietor of Whalley's Rest Home in Acushnet.
She volunteereed at Dartmouth Council on Aging, and was very devoted to her family.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Wayne F. Whalley, and his wife Patricia, of Dartmouth; a daughter, Donna L. Vivian has been a New Bedford resident all of her life, she was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church.
She was a graduate of Diman Vocational Technical High School of Practical Nursing, she had also been a greeter and volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital, and a Fort Taber volunteer.
She was the family historian, and she previously had worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., many years ago.She is survived by a niece Donna Louise Hebert of Dartmouth, 2 nephews Charles Robert Adams of Dartmouth, Wayne Whalley of Nashua New Hampshire, a cousin Charles Mills of Fall River. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Ambrose F. Whalley and the late June A. Adams.

November 17, 2021MANSFIELD Janet S. (Buck) Haskell, 95, a lifelong resident of Mansfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 15, 2021 at the Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield.
She was the beloved wife of the late Chester H. Haskell, to whom she was wed for over 50 years at the time of his death on March 27, 1999.
Born in Mansfield on Jan. 24, 1926, she was a loving daughter of the late Ralph A. and Fannie (Epstein) Buck.
Janet grew up and was educated in Mansfield. She was a 1944 graduate of Mansfield High School and a graduate of the Chamberlain School of Retailing.
Prior to retiring, Mrs. Haskell had worked as a data entry and coding clerk at the Foxboro Co. in Foxboro.
Janet's focal point of her life was raising her adoring family and providing exceptional care for her late husband.
She was a former active member of the Assembly of God Church in South Attleboro and more recently attended the First Baptist Church of Mansfield.
Janet enjoyed gardening and maintaining rock gardens at her former residence on Spring Street in Mansfield, sewing, knitting, crocheting, was an amazing seamstress and will always be remembered for her exceptional cooking skills.
She is survived by her devoted children: June E. Fleischmann of North Attleboro, Benjamin B. Haskell and his wife Peggy of Centerville, Darrell Haskell and his wife Anne-Marie of South Hamilton, Marcia L. Anzalone and her husband Anthony of Upton, Gary C. Haskell and his wife Lisa of Exeter, RI and the late Linda D. Haskell. She was the dear sister of Richard Buck of North Andover, Curtis Buck of Norton, Christine Owens of Buckeye, AZ and the late Louise Stupack and Roger Buck. She is also survived by her cherished 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, as well as several generations of loving nieces and nephews.

April 6, 2008NORTON - Edith Beatrice (Canham) Carter, 97, died peacefully on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at the Epoch Senior Care Center in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Luther O. Carter, who passed away in 1991. They were wed on Oct. 25, 1936.
Born in Raynham on Sept. 13, 1910, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Clara (Smith) Canham.
Edith grew up in Raynham and was a 1927 graduate of Taunton High School and graduated in 1934 from the Morton Hospital School of Nursing. She practiced nursing at Cape Cod Hospital until her marriage to her late husband Luther. When her children were grown, Mrs. Carter again took up nursing as a Nurse Supervisor at Paul A. Dever State School in Taunton, until her retirement in 1970.
Mr. and Mrs. Carter lived in Attleboro during the war years. He labored in defense, and she began raising their family. After the war, they settled into the family's new home in Norton, where she remained a resident for 63 years.
An active member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton, Edith served as secretary for their Ratcliff Guild and volunteered in the Church Thrift Shop. She enjoyed spending time with people.
Mrs. Carter was an accomplished seamstress who also enjoyed reading, knitting, reminiscing and making a comfortable and happy home for her family. Following the death of her husband, she spent her summers in Maine with her daughters and her winters in Norton with her son.
She is survived by her devoted children: Luther A. Carter and his wife Margaret of South Dartmouth, George P. Carter of Norton, Mary E. L. Woodward and her husband Jack of Burlington, Maine, Margaret A. Carter of Lakeville, Maine, and her late infant daughter Benita Carter. She is also survived by her loving 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews, who will miss her.
She was the sister of the late Walter G. Canham, George H. Canham, Blanche E. Kuhlberg, Mildred I. Hartwell, and Florence M. Johnson.

December 28, 2005Thomas L. Pharmakis, Neenah, padded away Dec. 15. He was born in Attleboro, Mass., the son of John and Clara (Haskell) Pharmakis. He married Catherine Sheehan April 23, 1946 in Taunton, Mass.
He was employed at Theda Clark Medical Medical Center from 1967 to 1988, where he also established the Medical Technolgy School. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Neenah, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, former President of the Parish Council and trustee of the church. He was a member of the 3rd degree Knights of Columbus, Neenah Council.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine; his children Ann Pharmakis Rosenbaum / (Jack) Whitney; Barbara (Paul) Thilin; Patricia Pharmakis and Thomas Pharmakis; five grandchildren; and his siblings, Donald, William, Cora and Rose.
He was preceded by his brothers and sisters Arthur, Andrew, John, George, Marion, Helen and Irene.

He was the husband of Audrey (Hebert) Pharmakis.
Born in Attleboro, MA, on May 5, 1923, he was the son of the late John and Clara (Haskell) Pharmakis.
Mr. Pharmakis was a distinguished serviceman, and received the Purple Heart during his service in the United States Navy, in World War II and the Korean Conflict, retiring after 20 years of service as a Hospitalman Chief.
He was a member of St. Georges Church, the Fleet Reserve Branch #19, and the National Philatelic Society. Mr. Pharmakis also worked as a pharmecutical rep. for Brunswig Drug in Las Vegas, NV for 15 years. He was an avid stamp and coin collector and a war historian, particularly ancient civilization.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his son Charles Herbert Pharmakis of Middletown, RI; his brother Donald Pharmakis of Las Vegas, NV, his sisters Rose Heon of Florida, and Cora Douglas of Cape Cod, MA; and his grandchildren Allison Pharmakis, Evan Pharmakis and Hilary Pharmakis.
He was the brother of the late Dr. Thomas Pharmakis, Andrew Pharmakis, John Pharmakis, George Pharmakis, Arthur Pharmakis, Helen Pharmakis and Marian Filibert and Irene.

February 17, 2007WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - Rosalie V. (Pharmakis) Heon, 82, died on Feb. 7, 2007 after a brief illness, at the home of her daughter Joyce Moulding in Winter Haven, Florida.
Born in Attleboro on June 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John T. Pharmakis and Clarabelle Haskell. Rose was raised and educated in Attleboro and was one of 12 children, nine of whom have passed on.
She was the wife of Donat A. (Duke) Heon, who predeceased her in 1990.
In addition to Attleboro, Rose lived in Wrentham for many years where she raised her three children.
She worked for several years at Texas Instruments in Attleboro as a solderer.
Upon their retirement, Rose and Duke enjoyed camping and became active members of the Good Sam Club, and made many friends through their camping experiences.
Also a former resident of Taunton, Rose relocated to Florida in 2005 with her daughter and son-in-law where she resided until her death.
Rose will be lovingly remembered by her family as a soft-spoken, kind and loving person, with a quiet inner strength.
She is survived by her son, Donat A. Heon III and his wife Deborah (Earle) Heon of North Attleboro; and two daughters, Cheryl Switzer and her husband Curt of Texas, and Joyce Moulding and her husband Fred of Florida. In addition, she is survived by a brother, Donald Pharmakis of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a sister, Cora Douglas of Eastham. She was the proud grandmother of 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

March 8, 1990John T. Pharmakis, 64, of 29 John St., a medical social worker for the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind for 20 years, died Tuesday at the home of his son, John Pharmakis Jr. of Attleboro.
Born in Attleboro, he was a son of the late John and Clarabelle (Haskell) Pharmakis.
Mr. Pharmakis was a member of Azure Lodge, AF & AM, Walpole. He was a designated non-ordained preacher for the United Methodist Church, and he been a member of South Walpole United Methodist Church, Walpole, for the past 18 years.
He was a graduate of Sul Ross State College, Alpine, Texas. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific Theater in World War II, and during the early 1950s.
Besides his son he leaves a daughter, Sandra Kelley of Madison, Ohio; four brothers, Thomas Pharmakis of Neenah, Wis., William Pharmakis of Sarasota, Fla., Donald Pharmakis of Las Vegas, Nev., and George Pharmakis of Fort Worth, Texas; three sisters, Helen Chambers of Fort Worth, Rosalie Heon of Taunton, Cora Douglass of Rehoboth, and two grandchildren.

August 10, 1998June H. (Hanson) Pharmakis of North Attleboro, a retired secretary, died Wednesday at Ridgewood Court Nursing Home in Attleboro after a long illness. She was 72.
Born in Boston, she lived in Sharon and later moved to North Attleboro, where she resided for the past 18 years.
Mrs. Pharmakis was employed as a secretary for the John Hancock Life Insurance Co. in Boston, and later served as the head of technical services for the Sharon Library.
A volunteer at the Southwood Hospital in Norfolk, Mrs. Pharmakis was a former member of the United Services Organization and the Business and Professional Women's Association of Norwood.
Wife of the late John T. Sr., Mrs. Pharmakis is survived by a daughter, Sandra L. Guild and a son, John T. Jr., both of Attleboro; three brothers, Walter Hanson, Eric Hanson and Robert Hanson, all of Boston; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Henry Francis Douglass, age 80, of Eastham, passed away Sept. 26, 2011, at the Epoch Senior Healthcare of Harwich after a long struggle against Parkinson's disease.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Cora (Pharmakis) Douglass of Eastham. He was the loving father to the late Steven Douglass, and Diana (Douglass) Creed of Thompson, Conn.; and grandfather to John Creed IV, age 19, of Thompson, Conn., and Jenna Creed, age 17, of Ellington, Conn. He is survived by a sister, Judy Barton of New Port Richey, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Douglass, and sister Barbara Grant.
Henry was born on May 31, 1931, in Attleboro, the son of Harold E. and Anna W. (Sayer) Douglass. He graduated from Attleboro High School in 1949 and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1951-1954); he was stationed in Germany and attained the rank of staff sergeant.
He was employed by Western Union for 35 years, serving as manager of credit and collections for New England in the Boston office. He retired in 1988.
Henry raised his family on Agricultural Avenue in Rehoboth, and was active in town government, serving for several years as chairman of the town's finance committee.An avid fisherman, horseman, gardener and hunter (with his beloved beagle Lady), Henry was known for his Scottish practicality, his wry sense of humor and his love of the outdoors. He leaves many friends and extended family members.

January 19, 2012ATTLEBORO - Lillian M. Parker, of Norgate Road in Attleboro, passed away unexpectedly January 13, graciously and quietly at Golden Living Garden Place in Attleboro surrounded by her family. She was recovering from an illness and was expecting to return home shortly.
Born on July 23, 1919 in Taunton, MA, she was the daughter of Corabelle (Haskell) and Benjamin Augustus Trafton. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Richard M. Parker, who served 12 years as an Attleboro City Councilor.
She is survived by her two children, Charles Parker of Delray Beach, Florida and her daughter Ellen Parker of Attleboro, with whom Lillian resided. She is also survived by her two grandchildren, Charles Jr. and Richard M. Parker IV of Delray Beach, Florida. She is also survived by her cherished grand kitty, Serengeti.
Lillian was a lifelong resident of Attleboro, attending the Attleboro School system and graduated from Attleboro High School. In 1939, Lillian married her sweetheart Richard, who she met at All Saints Episcopal Church. They remained lifetime members of the church; she was also a member of the All Saints Episcopal Choir and would often say, "I was the only one who could hit the high notes." She also played the piano, loved singing, and was a member of the Octave Chorus, which performed for a number of different audiences.
Lillian worked at Texas Instruments during World War II, helping with the war effort. She became very involved with the March of Dimes program and served as a district leader, as well as serving on a cancer awareness campaign, raising funds to help fight cancer. She was also a member of the Attleboro Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
She sold Fuller Brush and then Avon for almost 50 years. She received numerous sales awards over the years for reaching sales goals. She had long and lasting relationships with her customers, many who became good friends that she would often visit late into the evening. She continued selling Avon and Fuller Brush until last year, at 91 years old.
Lillian also had a fond love for animals and loved the family Maine Coon cat, Serengeti. She often would tell friends about the many ribbons Serengeti had won in competition and enjoyed attending many of the shows throughout New England.
Lillian's true love was her family. She especially loved spending the summer at the family cottage in Dennisport on Cape Cod. She loved making family memories there and many times in her later years enjoyed taking trips to the Cape and visiting Dennisport.
She also enjoyed making the holidays special for her family with many family traditions. Her two children still remember those special memories. She also looked forward to her annual trip to the Hyannis Melody Tent and hear the Beach Boys for her birthday, which had been a tradition for the past 10 years. One of her special moments was being recognized from the stage by Mike Love on her 90th birthday. She had an avid fan base there, which enjoyed her enthusiastic support for the Beach Boys.
Lillian was a caring person, always asking about the well-being of others, even as her own condition had significant challenges. Lillian always kept her mind sharp and was an avid crossword puzzle solver. In her later years, she continued this practice, and immensely enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, testing her skills at solving the puzzle with her daughter.
