February 22, 1992Dorothy G. McCarthy, a longtime Portage civic leader, historian and former teacher, died Thursday at a Madison hospital. She was 91.
She earned her master's degree at the University of Wisconsin and later became principal at Lincoln Elementary School in Madison.
She and her late husband, J.R. McCarthy, operated the Raulf Hotel, now the Ram Hotel, for many years and she served as an officer and member of many local civic, women's, church and historical organizations.
She was listed in ''Who's Who of American Women'' and for many years wrote a column, Tales of Old Portage, in the Portage Daily Register.

December 19, 1944Mrs. Jennie Sophronia Kreutz, 13, a Winter resident of Mount Dora, died suddenly Sunday night. She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Harold Martin, of Coconut Grove; two sisters, Mrs. William King of Needham, Mass., and Mrs. R.Y. Lufkin of Concord, Mass.; two brothers, Marten Nevens of California and Amaziah Nevens of Massachusetts.
