April 13, 1938William H. Haskell, 74, widely known Tolerdo grain and milling executive and banker died yesterday in Sarasota, Fla., following a heart attack suffered a few days ago.
Mr. Haskell went to Florida last November. He was preparing earlier in the week to return to his home at 2717 Collingwood Boulevard here, when he suffered the attack. His only daughter, Mrs. A. L. Kershaw of Toledo, immediately went to Florida and was with him when death came.
Mr. Hasakell was one of the hardest workers in behalf of the Miami Children's Home and during his long term as a trustee the instituion was modernized and considerably enlarged.
Mr. Haskell was a 32nd degree Mason, having advanced through all of the local bodies, including the York and Scottish Rites. He had been a member of Toledo Lodge of Elks since 1983 and was the oldest exalted ruler of the organization, an honorat life member and chairman of Old Timers' Club of the Elks. He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, Toledo Club, Inverness Club, Sylvania Golf Club and the Castalla Trout Club.
Born in Essex County, New York, August 24, 1863, and educated in Glens Falls, N.Y., Academy. Mr. Haskell came to Toledo at the age of 19 and entered the milling business. He organized the Miami Maize Co. in 1891. Two years later he sold the business and organized W. H. Haskell & Co., which operated a successfull corn mill, He continued in this business until 1919.
Mr. Haskell was one of the founders and organizeers of the Toledo Lumber and Millwork Co., and for many years was a director of the Commerce Gaurdian Trust and Savings Bank. A member of the Toledo Board of Trade, he was a colorful figure about the floor in the heyday of this organization.
In addition to his daughter, Mr. Haskell leaves one grandson, William H. Kershaw; two nephews, Harry and Walter Haskell, Toledo, and a niece, Miss Adelaide Haskell, also of this city.
David Williams Haskell was a prominent businessman (lumber and real estate) in Ashtabula, Ohio. He built a large comfortable home at 50 Prospect Street and raised there a family of seven daughters and one son.
He was born April 14, 1838, in South Ridge, now part of the town of Conneaut, Ashtabula county, Ohio. He and his wife, Julia Ann (Hulbert) Haskell, and most of their children are buried on the Haskell plot in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Ashtabula.
His date of birth is recorded also in the family bible of Julia Ann (Hulbert) Haskell, but in the bible the date of birth is recorded as 14 April 1839.

Biographical History of Northeastern Ohio
Published 1893David Williams Haskell, the oldest son of John Winship Haskell, was born at South Ridge, Ashtabula county, Ohio, April 14, 1838. He was educated at the common school; and in 1857 accompanied his father to Ashtabula, which has since been his home. For a time he was associated with his father in business, but subsequently started in business for himself, conducting a dry-goods store for about ten years in a very successful manner. He is now conducting a lumber business and has also extensive interests in real estate, operating chiefly in his own realty.
Mr. Haskell was married at Ashtabula, December 24, 1861, to Harriet E., the accomplished daughter of Honorable Henry Fassett, whose portrait and biography will be found in another part of this volume. This estimable lady met an untimely death, departing this life in October, 1862, to the great sorrow of her devoted and loving husband and her numerous friends. She was a woman of line culture and rare musical talent, of a sweet, winning disposition, and much beloved by her many admirers.
June 12, 1867, Mr. Haskell was married the second time, to Julia Ann, the amiable and talented daughter of Joseph D. and Lucinda C. (Hall) Hulbert, whose portraits and biographies appear in this work. This union has been blessed with eight children; Harriet Fassett, born May 16, 1868; Mary Lucinda, born August 22, 1870; Josephine Dewey, born April 10, 1872 ; Phyana Hulbert, born April 29, 1874; Julia Dewey, born January 2, 1S76; Alma Chadwick, born November 16, 1878; Andrew Stone, born September 4, 1880; and Ethel Williams, born November 22, 1882, - all living but Josephine, who died October 10, 1872, and Julia, who died April 28, 1881.
Mr. and Mrs. Haskell are members of the Congregational Church, the former holding the positions of Trustee and Treasurer. He is a member of the Masonic Order, and has taken the Royal Arch degree.
Mr. Haskell is a gentleman of good presence, genial, social disposition and winning manners. He is liberal in his views, progressive and interested in the development of his native county; he is a worthy representative of his noble father and is held in high esteem by the community in which he was born and reared, and by all who have the pleasure of his acquaintance.

27357. William Cassius Haskell
His name is shown as "Casius Marcellus Haskell" in the 1850 Federal Census for Conneautville, PA. He is listed as a lumber merchant in the 1870 Federal Census.
He enlisted in the Union Army at the age of 15, and served in several battles. After the war he retained his interest inj military affairs and served as lt. colonel in the Tenth Ohio Volunteers. Later he was a chief engineer, with the rank of colonel, on the staff of Governor Foraker. He later served as mayor of Ashtabula and as a US marshall for the northern district in Ohio.
He became superintendant of weights, measures, and markets for the District of Columbia, and was serving in that position at the time of his death.
