He filed for a soldier's pension on 28 Jul 1890. His service in Company B is commemorated on his grave marker.

ObituaryIn the death of Henri James Haskell, Glendive, Dawson County and the state of Montana, lose one of its most widely known citizens. His demise will be greatly missed among the citizens of the city and county where he was a power of good and assistance to a11 who applied to him, whether for legal advice or financial aid.
His acts, of mediation prevented many persons from being enmeshed In the Intricacies of law, whom he might have had as paying clients In his extensive law practice for nearly forty years.
In public affairs he was always for progress along conservative lines and his knowledge of men and conditions was at the disposal of those officials of city, county and state at all times.
He was a native of Maine, being born in Palmyra, Somerset county, on July 20. 1843, was educated in the Maine Central Institute at Pittsfield, and at the age of 19 years enlisted in Company B, 'First Maine cavalry, in 1862 and joined the army of the Potomac, participating in the battle of Gettysburg and many other engagements, serving until March 21, 1865, when he was, discharged with honors. Several years after the war he removed to Marysvllle, California, and read law in the offices of Eastman & Merrill, was admitted in 1875 to the California bar, where he practiced law for the following year. He returned to Palmyra, Maine, where he remained until 1883 when he came to Glendive. He was a stalwart Republican and was honored by his party, by serving as clerk of district court, county attorney, state representative, member of the constitutional convention in 1889, and was Montana's first attorney general serving for seven years. In 1920 was again elected as state representative to the seventeenth legislature.
The, General was one of the oldest members of the Masonic bodies in the state. He joined Medidian Lodge No. 32, A.F. & A.M. at Pittsfield, Maine, in 1866, and in 1885 was a charter member of Glendive Lodge No.31 A.F. & A.M. and was past master of that body; was a member of Yellow stone Chapter No.5, R.A.M., of which he was past high priest; member of Damascus Commandery, No.4. Knights Templar, of which he was past eminent Commander; Yellowstone Chapter No.5, Order Eastern Star, and Algeria. Temple, A. A.O.N. M. S. of Helena.
He was married In June, 1883, at Glendive, to Miss Nellie Towle, a native of Enfield. New Hampshire, and two children were born to them, both of whom died. He was married to Miss Ella Knowles at Helena, in 1893, who died in 1910 (sic) at Helana. He was extensively interested in stock growing and ranching at the foot of Iron Butte, where he spent considerable of hls time during the summer for the past ten years.
The General's remaining relatives, left to mourn his loss are: Three sisters, Mrs. A. J . Gaff, who resides in California; Mrs. Arthur Elliott, Broken Bow, Nebraska, and Mrs. Miller, Hartland, Maine; one nephew,Will Cushor, Gorina,Maine; one first cousin, Miss Lou C. Hathorn of Glendive, and two second cousins, Miss Ethel Hitchcock and Miss White of Glendive.
His death occurred on Friday morning at 5: 25, the cause of death being bronchial troubles, from which he has suffered the past three months.

Survivors include a daughter Harrilyn Tipton of Rockport; two sons James and Herbert Hall both of Knoxville Tenn.; a sister Lavern Worley of Greenville Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
