Volume 13, No. 1, March 2004THOMAS HENRY HASKELL of Co. B, 36th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, rose from private to 1 st Lieutenant and Adjutant. He was born in May 1841, to George W. and Harriet Mulliken Haskell. He married on 26 February 1867 Emma F. Miles in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His occupation was clerk in the Haverill State Prison. His father was born in Gloucester, his mother in Haverill, Massachusetts.
He was mustered into the Union Army as a private on 24 July 1862 and commissioned from 1 st sergeant to 1 Sl lieutenant on 6 May 1864. From 22 March to 31 August 1863 he was sick in hospital at Camp Nicholsville. From 18 November to December 1863 he had jaundice. At the Battle of Spotsylvania, on 12 May 1864 he was severely wounded in close combat by gunshot through the palm of his right hand. He was treated at Harewood General Hospital, Washington, D.C. and on furlough 13 June through 6 July. He was mustered out with his company on 8 June 1865.
After the war he lived at 105 Washington Street, Malden, Massachusetts and died suddenly of heart failure on 3 August 1895, aged 54 years, 3 months. He was not known to have been previously ill. He was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. His wife was born in Waverly, New Jersey.
