Horace Haskell served in Company D., 4th Regiment, Maine Volunteers in the Civil War. He was taken prisoner by Confederate forces in the Battle of Bull Run and poorly treated. After prisoner exchange he never regained his health and died at the age of 46 on Little Deer Isle. His cemetery stone is reported to read his age as "44 years" and the date of death as 1876. His cause of death was "disease of the kidneys".

Death date is approximated from a letter from William H. Sargent in response to a query on the pension for the dependents of Isaiah V. Eaton. In this letter dated August 29, 1868, Mr. Sargent indicated that Susanah Eaton had remarried, but her husband was widowed with his own family and refused to support his new family. Susanah and her children lived in a separate house with no support. He states that Susanah died the previous winter, and that he was now acting as gaurdian.
Isaiah Valentine Eaton was a fisherman. He served in Co. D, 4th Regiment, Maine Volunteers and was killed 18 August 1863 in the Battle of Gettysburg. He is buried in Gettysburg Memorial Park (information provided by Cindy Beane, August 2008).

Cordelia and her friend, Hannah Snowman, with baby Herbert Black were rowing from Little Deer Isle to Pumpkin Island. The baby started to cry, Hannah was holding him, so Cordelia stood to take him and change places with Hannah. The boat capsized and Cordelia and the baby were drowned. Hannah kept afloat by hanging on to an oar.
Elmer P. Spofford was a lawyer.
Sylvanus Green Haskell was a merchant in a variety store at age 44. He was part owner of the brig "Julia E. Haskell" with John Green Haskell. The ship was built in 1868 in Deer Isle.
He is reported in Deer Isle town records to have died of Bright's Disease, which in modern terms is called nephritis.
The Schooner D.D. Haskell was named after Dorothy Dutton Haskell.
He was a boot treer, was fenceviewer, constable, and Captain in the Civil War, Co. D 39th Reg. M.V. says his gravestone. Later became Cemetery Superintendent in Quincy. Edgar W. Haskell was a merchant at the time of his marriage to Harriet Libby. He is listed in the 1920 Deer Isle Census as a barber at age 44 who owned his own shop. Edgar and Harriet had no children.
Edward A. Richardson was a seaman (1880 Deer Isle census). In the 1900 and 1910 censuses he is listed as a master mariner.
