Will of Samuel Herrick. May 23, 1821.
In the name of God Amen, I Samuel Herrick of Sedgewick in the County of Hancock in the state of Maine considering the uncertainty of this mortal lifeand being of sound and perfect mind and memory blessed be almighty God for the same do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following (that is to say) first I give and devise to my son in law Nathanial Allen the 2nd, his heirs and assigns all my lands at Freehold Estate whatsoever situated in the town of Sedgewick aforesaid except 12 acres of the front of the half lot on parcel of land I own is situated in said Sedgewick at a place called Bass Cove joining land now owned by John Dougherty.
And I hereby give and devise to my youngest son Joseph Herrick and his heirs and assigns 12 acres of land of the parcel I now own situated in said Sedgewick as aforesaid at a place called Bass Cove beginning at the bound on the shore between said land and land now owned by John Dougherty then northerly by said Doughterty land until a line on a right angle to the westerly line of said parcel of land may include the aforesaid 12 acres.
I do also and bequeath unto my eldest son John Herrick the sum of forty dollars I do also give and bequeath unto my second son Humphery Herrick the sum of fifty dollars together with one cow and 4 sheep. I do also give and bequeath unto my son Samuel Herrick the 3rd the sum of forty dollars. I also give and bequeath unto my son Benjamin Herrick the sum of ten dollars I also give and bequeath unto my four eldest daughters Polly Wells, Prudence Bunker, Rachel Allen, and Nancy Fly, the sum of thirty dollars each which said several legatees or sums of money and stock I will and order shall be paid to the said respective legatees the one half in one year the other half in two years after my decrease the 12 acres of land to be set off to my son Joseph Herrick in one year after my decease and lastly to all the rest residue and remainder of my personal estate, goods and chattels of what kind so ever I give and bequeath the same to my said son-in-law Nathanial Allen the 2nd who I hereby appoint sole executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.
