George Crosby Russell

George C. Russell, a resident of the town of Madison since 1852 and for many years prominently identified with the town board, died at his home, 401 Lakeside street at 9 o'clock yesterday morning. Death was caused by a general breakdown due to old age. He was 84 years old.

Mr. Russell was a native of Maine, for more than 40 years he resided on a farm in the town of Madison and for the past 15 years he was a resident of South Madison. Mr. Russell ...

board, He also was town treasurer for five years, retiring from that position last year. He was a staunch supporter of the principles of the democratic party and always manifested a great interest in the affairs of the nation, state, county and town.

Mr. Russell was quartermaster general of the second Wisconsin cavalry during the Civil war and was a member of Lucius Fairchild post. He has also been secretary of the Dane county Agriculture society. Besides being a farmer he was also an expert accountant.

In spite of his advanced age Mr. Russell was almost a daily visitor in the city up to the time of his last illness. On December 14, last he and his wife celebrated their fifty ninth wedding anniversary.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs, Mary Harriman, 1225 Maple court, and two sons, Jesse Russell, 1405 University avenue and George C. Russell of Boise, Idaho.
