16438. Minard A. Haskell

Tuesday, 27 October 1942, the Tacoma News Tribune of Tacoma Washington, USA, reported: Apparently a victim of a sudden heart attack while walking on the tideflats on his way to work, Minard Haskell, 77, of 3930 South Monroe Street, died at a late hour Saturday night. His son, J. M. Haskell, found his father's body, slumped in bushes at the side of Milwaukee Road at 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Mr. Haskell had been in normal health and spirits when he left home to go to work at the Nelson Boiler Works. He was only a few hundred yards from the door of the plant, police said, when he was fatally stricke

Mr. Haskell was a charter member of Warren Lodge, F. & A.M., and of the W. M. A. He was a resident of Tacoma for 23 years.

He leaves his wife, Margaret; sons Harry of Vancouver and J. M. and T. B. of Tacoma; daughters, Mrs. T. A. Ligman of Tacoma and Mrs. Louise Springle of California; sister, Mrs. Jennie Metz of California; 17 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Burial was at Mountain View Memorial Park with Warren Lodge, F. & A. M. in charge.

Sunday, 28 February 1943, the Tacoma Sunday Ledger-News Tribune reported: Mrs. Margaret Louise Haskell, 67, died en route to a hospital Saturday afternoon following a heart attack at her home, 3930 South Monroe Street. Born in Missouri, Mrs. Haskell had lived in Tacoma 25 years. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors and Warren Chapter, O. E. S.

The widow of Minard Haskell, she is survived by three sons, two daughters, a brother, Charles Baird of Baker, Oregon; 16 grandchildren and one great granddaughter.


Theodore K. Metz

Chehalis, Wash. - Theodore K. Metz, for many years a resident of Chehalis, died in Portland April 13, following a long illness, aged 52 years. He was taken there recently for treatment.

Mr. Metz was born in Marysville, Iowa, and with his father's family came to Walla Walla in 1882. In 1884 he came to Winlock and later to Chehalis.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Jennie Metz; four sons, Ray and Alonzo Metz of Chehalis, Minard Metz of Centralia, Theodore Metz of Chehalis and Mrs. Earl Scott of Hollywood, Cal.; his mother, Mrs. 'Ellen Metz of Chehalis and two brothers, Fred Metz of Hollywood, Cal., and Claude Metz of Bend, Ore.

Fred J. Haskell, 69, 21 Washington St., died Thursday night at the Cortland County Hospital after suffering a heart attack earlier in the evening.

He was widely known in this area as a painter and paper hanger. He was born on June 18, 1883, in N. Ferrisburg, Vt., the son of the late Herbert and Lydia Curler Haskell. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Haskell; three stepsons, James and Joseph Hamilton, Cortland, and Burton Hamilton, Homer; a nephew, Fred H. Haskell, Cortland, and several other nieces and nephews in Massachusetts.

Mrs. Grace E. Matison, 74, of 83 Pendleton St. died Friday evening in Cortland Memorial Hospital. She had lived in the Cortland area the past 35 years.

She was born Sept. 10, 1900 in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of James L. and Anna Anderson Howard.
Mrs. Matison was a retired clerk in Newberry's Store, where she was employed about 20 years.
She was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church and the Cortland Senior Citizens.

Surviving are her husband, Rodney O. Matison of Cortland; three sons, James Hamilton of Cortland, Burton Hamilton of Owasco and Joseph Hamilton of Webster; two step-sons, David and Carl Matison, both of Horseheads; three step-daughters, Mrs. Betty Baker of Home, Miss Shirley Matison of Millertown, Pa., and Miss Roberta Matison of Arizona; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Davis of Cortland; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Florence M. Gibbo, 89, St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena, formerly of 57 Edward St., died Thursday in Alice Hyde Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Gibbo was employed with Schine's Theater and was a nurse's aide until retiring in 1971.

Born Aug. 11, 1908, in Ogdensburg, a daughter of Mose and Josephine Blanchard Recore, she married Myron Haskell in 1925. He died in 1941. She married Walter Gibbo in 1946. He died in 1978.

She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, watching television and listening to country music.

Surviving are a son, Loren Haskell, Malone; a grandson and several nephews and nieces.
