Mrs. Clara W. Gallagher, 75, formerly of Binghampton and Berkshire died Tuesday at the home of her son, William C. Gallagher of Riverside Cal. Besides William, she is survived by another son, Rodger W. Gallagher of Binghampton; a sister, Mrs. Samantha Smith of Syracuse; seven grandchildren, the misses Marie, Kathleen and Alice Gallagher, all of Riverside, Cal., Janes and Rodney Gallager, both of Binghampton, Mrs Robert Northrup of Boston, Mass., and Mrs. Carl Scarpelli of Cos Cob, Conn., and three great-grandchildren.

He was a grandson of the late Dr. W. C. Gallagher ans a nephew of Lyman H. Hallagher of Slaterville Springs. He was in the aemy from 1915-1919.

Funeral services for Joe Meacham, age 77 years, pioneer resident of Kern county, who passed away Sunday at his home in Buttonwillow, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Chapel of Payne & O. Meara.

The deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. C. Welsh, Mrs. W. S. McGrue and Mrs. J. C. Aviville, and five sons, William, John, Joseph, Edward and Rollie.


16330. George Henry Mecham

Bakersfield, Nov. 20 - George H. Mecham, 70 years of age, a pioneer retired Kern county rancher and teamster of this county in the days when ox teams were used for the long hauls into the then thriving mining districts of the mountains north of here, died early today at the home of his son, James Mecham of 919 Twentieth street. Mecham a resident of this county for fifty-six years, died following an illness of about a year, and occured just seventeen days after that of his wife, Mrs. Martha L. Mecham who passed away here on the 13th inst.

Born in Missouri, he croosed the plains from his native state to the Kernville district with an ox team in the days when rairoads were unknown in the San Joaquin Valley. For several years, the young mnan engaged in teaming and hauling, first with a team of oxen, later with horses. Havilah was then the county seat and the principal city of the district.

For more than forty years Mecham engaged in farming and ranching in the Rosedale district, west of here. A year ago he retired because of ill health, and he and his wife moved to this city.

He leaves two children, the son James, and a daughter, Mrs. Mary McAllister.
