Fred J. Haskell, 69, 21 Washington St., died Thursday night at the Cortland County Hospital after suffering a heart attack earlier in the evening.

He was widely known in this area as a painter and paper hanger. He was born on June 18, 1883, in N. Ferrisburg, Vt., the son of the late Herbert and Lydia Curler Haskell. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace Haskell; three stepsons, James and Joseph Hamilton, Cortland, and Burton Hamilton, Homer; a nephew, Fred H. Haskell, Cortland, and several other nieces and nephews in Massachusetts.

Mrs. Grace E. Matison, 74, of 83 Pendleton St. died Friday evening in Cortland Memorial Hospital. She had lived in the Cortland area the past 35 years.

She was born Sept. 10, 1900 in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of James L. and Anna Anderson Howard.
Mrs. Matison was a retired clerk in Newberry's Store, where she was employed about 20 years.
She was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church and the Cortland Senior Citizens.

Surviving are her husband, Rodney O. Matison of Cortland; three sons, James Hamilton of Cortland, Burton Hamilton of Owasco and Joseph Hamilton of Webster; two step-sons, David and Carl Matison, both of Horseheads; three step-daughters, Mrs. Betty Baker of Home, Miss Shirley Matison of Millertown, Pa., and Miss Roberta Matison of Arizona; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Davis of Cortland; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Florence M. Gibbo, 89, St. Regis Nursing Home, Massena, formerly of 57 Edward St., died Thursday in Alice Hyde Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Gibbo was employed with Schine's Theater and was a nurse's aide until retiring in 1971.

Born Aug. 11, 1908, in Ogdensburg, a daughter of Mose and Josephine Blanchard Recore, she married Myron Haskell in 1925. He died in 1941. She married Walter Gibbo in 1946. He died in 1978.

She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, watching television and listening to country music.

Surviving are a son, Loren Haskell, Malone; a grandson and several nephews and nieces.
