16097. Lewis Alton Haskell

Lewis Alton Haskell.  The following notes copied from Melissa Haskell on Haskell Family Page database on Ancestry.com:

Occupation: Lineman, groom of show horses, horses @ Lakeville sanitorium

Lewis Alton Haskell was first married to Rose Holbrook. They had three children: Pearl, Carl and Louie. Rose died when the children were young. Edith Briet, may have been Rose's nurse, married Lewis and raised the children. Louie adored her. Lewis apparently was not a very nice man and hit the children with some regularity. Edith told Lewis that if he hit the children again, she would leave and take the children with her. Lewis pretty much left the children alone after that. Edith died at some point and Lewis later married Lillian Everson. Lewis Alton Haskell went to live with his son, Louie Haskell at some point in the late 1930's (abt. 1936-1938) for a couple of years. He was a grumpy man living in a house with small children. Lewis had his own bedroom. About 1941, Lewis had a "spell" and fell down the stairs. As part of the fall, he put his head through the wall at the bottom of the stairs. He was taken to Acushnet Hospital. Louie Haskell, Jr. doesn't remember him coming home after that. Lewis Haskell worked with horses. Louie Haskell, Jr. described him as "so mean that even the hourses would bite him if they could."
