Mary E. ...

Newport Mercury
April 12, 1902

Mrs. Mary E. Head of Jamestown was fatally burned at her home in that town on Sunday. Although it is not known just how the accident occurred it is supposed that her clothes caught fire from coming into contact with the kitchen stove. Neighbors were summoned by the frantic cries of her grandchildren and upon arriving at the scene found that Mrs. Head had attempted to extinguish the flames at the faucet in the kitchen sink. The clothing was burned from her body and she was terribly burned. A physician was hastily summoned but found that he could do nothing to save the women's life and she died within three hours.

Mrs. Head was the widow of the late Isaac Head. She leaves three sons, Alton, Vernon and Albert Head, and two daughters, Mrs. Maria Meigs and Susie Head.
