GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY (photo of Mr. and Mrs. Francis) - Ninety-eight friends and relatives personally congratulated Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Francis, 216 Lincoln Way East, yesterday at the duel celebration of their golden wedding anniversary and the centenary of the coming of the Francis family to LaPorte county. A special book wherein guests and callers registered their names was provided. Mr. Francis, an historian, wanted an accurate record.

Guests from Colorado, Benton Harbor and Grand Rapids, Mich., Columbus, Ohio, and towns near LaPorte were there, and cards and telegrams numbering more that 200 from 18 of the states, brought congratulations also.

Mrs. Frank Husted of Wise River, Mont., a sister of Dr. H. H. Martin, telephoned from her far home and talked to Mr. and Mrs. Francis and six others during dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Martin, who had been in Florida did not get back in time for the dinner yesterday, but called on the Francises in the evening.

At the dinner, served buffet style to 40 near relatives the tables were decorated with some of the myriads of cut flowers and potted plants received by Mr. and Mrs. Francis. No program had been planned, but Miss Dorothy Reiter sang extemporaneously, The Old Spinning Wheel and several old songs. Adolph Soetje and his son played several violin and piano selections. Daughters, granddaughters, and nieces served at dinner and supper. In the afternoon photographs of the four generations were taken. All the six grandchildren and four great grandchildren were present.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis received many lovely gifts, and cards and telegrams are still pouring in today, because though the celebration was yesterday, today, March 12, is the actual 50th anniversary.
