Deaths From Sherburne Newspapers, Chenango County, NY 1864-1900Mrs. Eli WESTCOTT, died Binghamton, Dec 31, 1885; 51yr. She was born in Otsego Co., and was for many years a resident of Sherburne, removing to Binghamton about 8 years ago. She is survived by her husband, 5 daughters and a son. Burial was in Sherburne Quarter cemetery.

January 2, 1904, p. 6News has been received here of the death Thursday at Norwood of Mrs. Harriet Tanner Mumford, widow of Prosper D. Mumford. Mr. Mumford was secretary, treasurer and business manager of the old Standard Publisching company. He died about six years ago.
The family then lived at Nr. 1305 East Genesee street. After the death of Mr. Mumford, Mrs. Mumford went to live with relatives. J.K. Mumford, the well known newspaper man, is a son.
Burial will be made at Oakwood at 9 A.M. tomorrow.

In February 1891 George was the secretary of the Players' Club which had recently established itself in Syracuse.Following his untimely death due to pneumonia the Press and Players' Clubs of Syracuse adopted resolutions honoring George which were published in The Evening Herald, Syracuse, on Wednesday, May 3, 1893:
"...Whereas, preambles are not a measure of Grief, nor have resolutions power to bring back the fleeting breath to the bodies whose friendship and comradship we have cherished, therefore be it simply
Resolved, That the Syracuse Press Club inscribe this sentiment to the cherished memory of its late member, the lamented George D. Mumford:He was a man of large heart and quick intelligence. His genial, sunny nature, his ready wit and his regard for the sensibilities of his fellows made him a choice companion. Those who knew him best loved him most..."
"...Whereas, it has pleased God to remove from amongst us our friend and fellow club member, George D. Mumford, and
Whereas, he was a charter member of said (Players') club, over actively interested in its welfare and honored and esteemed by its members..."At the time of his death George Devereux Mumford was 25 years old and among the most popular young men of Syracuse, where he had lived for most of his life. Following high school graduation, he began as an advertising solicitor at The Standard. He became ill after appearing in "The Cricket on the Hill", one of many theatricals he was involved in as an actor. He was engaged to Miss Fanny Chubbuck.

January 24, 1917James A. Pearsall, aged 84 years, who has been in failing health for a year, due to hardening of the arteries, died Tuesday night at 10:30 o'clock at the home of his son, H. A. Pearsall on a farm between Davenport Center and Davenport. Deceased was a son of Samuel Pearsall, and was married about 48 years ago to Mary Westcott of Oneonta.
During the years after his marriage he resided on the Westover farm in the town of Oneonta, and while here united in membership with the First Baptist Church.
He is survived, besides his wife, by one sister, Mrs. M. A. Yale of Bainbridge, the son above names and three grandchildren. burial will be in Riverside cemetery
