We learn by private letters from Sanford, N.S., that death has been busy thinning the ranks of our friends and brethren in that locality.
Saturday evening, Jan. 11th, Bro. Thomas Haskel, an old and respected resident of Sandford passed away in the 84th year of his age leaving a widow and a number of children to remember him and sorrow at his departure.
Bro. Haskel professed religion under the labors of Brethren H. H. Cosman and G. B. Trafton and became a member of the Reformed Baptist church and remained a member until his death. His conversion was clear and strong. It was always interesting to hear him give testimony to the saving power of Jesus, which he did not fail to do when opportunity was afforded him. While we were pastor of the church he was always present at divine service when he was able to do so and the people were always delighted to hear his testimony.
It was a pleasure for the pastor to visit Bro. Haskel. We shall never forget seasons of prayer we were permitted to enjoy at his home. They were precious seasons which our brother always enjoyed. He has passed beyond the pains and aches and sorrows of this life, but he lives in the memory of those who knew him. We extend to our aged sister, his widow and the children our strongest sympathy and prayers for her support in sorrow.
