Josiah Shaw Haskell was born 1 Oct 1843 in Stoneham Oxford Co Maine. He married Caroline Elizabeth Austin 5 Jan 1868. At time of their marriage, Josiah was living in Parma Michigan and Caroline was living in Springfield Michigan. Josiah was a Mason. He reached 1st Degree 15 July 1867; 2nd Degree 12 Aug 1867 and 3rd Degree 23 Sept 1867. He was a member of the Baptist Church. His residences include Parma Michigan and Blue Rapids Kansas. He died 11 Nov 1926 in Blue Rapids Kansas. His parents were Cyrus Haskell and Mary Holt Haskell, both of Cumberland Co Maine.On the 1880 Federal Census for Blue Rapids KS, Josiah is listed as a blacksmith having his own shop.

Gardner Roy Haskell was the first Chief of Police of Beverly, Massachusetts, and served for thirteen years during the period 1877 to 1896.  Haskell Street in Beverly is named for him.  He also was a cabinet maker.

Mr. Gardner Haskell, first city marshall of Beverly, Massachusetts, USA, died 29 December 1898, aged sixty years. He was elected chief of police of the town of Beverly in 1877 and served eight years. He  ' was again appointed chief in 1891 and served three years, and four years as city marshall after Beverly became a city. He then retired because of ill health. He was a native of New Hampshire and came to Beverly early in life
