Bulletin of the Maine State LibraryMiss Jessica Josephine Haskell one of the teachers in the Hallowell High school a few years ago took up the work but found it in such condition that she decided to begin at the very first day of the history of Hallowell and work to the present time it was a big undertaking but she was interested and the farther she dug into the vast amount of historical facts concerning the old families of Hallowell the more interesting it became The result o her research was published in a series of articles in a Portland paper and attracted much attention.
Here is where the State Library's gift enters the story Miss Haskell realizing the value of a complete set of these papers for easy access to people who wished to consult them thought of the scheme of clipping the articles and arranging them in a scrap book with a complete index and accordingly did so It is a neat compact little volume with plenty of space for additional matter that will be collected for years to come and is as convenient and substantial as a printed book The inde is from the clippings worked out in ink and as complete as the intimate knowledge of the author with the contents alone could make l1lt is interesting up to date and valuable and is highly prized by the library officials -- Kennebec Journal
