Epes B. Haskell is listed as a mariner in the 1860 Federal Census of Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts, and as a fisherman in the 1870 Gloucester Census.
The following obituary was published in the Gloucester Daily Times, Monday, 17 April 1905:
"Mr. Epes B. Haskell died at the home of his son, Mr. Epes W. Haskell, 18 Bray Street (West Gloucester), yesterday, at the age of about 91 years.
The deceased was born in West Gloucester, and in early life he went fishing, after which he engaged in farming. Several years ago he moved to Ipswich, where his wife died, and then he returned here.
He is survived by four sons, Loring, and Epes W. Haskell, and Warren, and Edward, the latter two residing in the West, and two daughters, Josie and Ellen.
The funeral will be held from the home of his son, Mr. Epes W. Haskell, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.
His death certificate states his age as 90 years, 4 months, 6 Days. He was buried April 20, 1905, in Gloucester at the Sumner Street Cemetery, Row 4, Section 3."
The date of death is recorded in the Vital Records of Gloucester, MA, as either 1838 or 1844.
