In Brooklin, Feb. 21, Mrs. Lois Powers, wife of Newell Powers aged 56 yrs. 3 mos, In the death of Sister Powers, not only does her family mourn the loss of a dear companion and an affectionate and judicious mother but the entire community mourn the loss of one of its most highly esteemed and beloved neighbors, who has lifted up her life with usefulness.

Sister Powers experienced religion and united with the Baptist church when 16 years old, and has always adorned her profession by a consistent Christian deportment. She has always manifested a deep interest in the affairs of the church and has labored to promote its welfare. She always encouraged a liberal support of the minister, the cause of missions, and the relief of the needy. She was actively identified with the Sunday School cause, and educational interests.

She leaves a husband and four children, besides a large circle of relatives and friends, to whom she had greatly endeared herself by her wise counsels, her providing care, ready sympathy and cheerful hospitality. It may well be said of her, "She hath done what she could."

The funeral of Capt. George Dudley Haskell occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Julia E. Lufkin, last Friday afternoon conducted by Rev. Mr. Scott of Plymouth, Mass. Capt. Haskell was one of Deer Isle’s most highly respected citizens and in his earlier days one of its most successful master mariners, having sailed in command of coasting vessels to all Atlantic coast and many foreign ports. He was a member of Marine Lodge, which served as an escort at the funeral. He was twice married, his second wife dying in September. By his first wife, who was Miss Rose Weed, he leaves two sons. A third son, Theodore died in Cuba many years ago. They are Capt. E. Y. Haskell of New London, Conn., and Capt. Judson T. Haskell of Boston; and four daughters, Mrs. Levi Cole, Mrs. Julia E. Lufkin, Mrs. Wm. A. Greene of Deer Isle, and Mrs. Arthur B. Knowlton of Rockland. By the second marriage, which was with Mrs. Lenora Bray, there is one daughter, Mrs. Frank E. Hardy, Jr.

Capt. Albert L. Haskell, 82, formerly of this town, died March 5, at his home in Port Jefferson, Long Island, N. Y., after a few days illness.

He is survived by a daughter, Helen Haskell Bergen and a granddaughter. His wife, Rebecca, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis M. Holden of Deer Isle, died in July 1932.

Capt. Haskell was the last member of a large family and was born at the old homestead owned by his brother, the late Capt. Dudley Haskell.
