Jonathan was known as "Long Metre" Jonathan, and always went to sea as master of a ship. He was afflicted with thyphus fever on one of his journeys, and was hurried home, where he died from the infliction.

Abigail Howard's date of birth, 21 January 1786, as recorded by the Deer Isle town clerk, is certainly an error with regard to the year. Her correct date of birth is most likely 21 January 1788.
