Mr. Waterhouse was first a hotel keeper at Kilxaric, now Alton, Me. Later he located on the Westerly side of Bangor, then a small settlement on what was afterwards Allen St. In a few years he cleared a large tract of land and became a farmer. He then went into the business of cleaning out vaults. He was the only one in the business, employed a considerable number of men and made a financial success. He afterwards engaged in he real estate business, buying and selling timber lands, and retired with competance.
He died in Bangor, July 26,1889. He was a devoted Christian and a member of the First Christian Church in Bangor, and gave the land on which the present church building was erected and a cash contribution in addition. He was always present at the Sunday services and the week-night prayer meeting. Generous to the poor and a "grand old man". A grandaughter says,- "I could write a book of the stories he told me when a child". "My dear old grandfather".
