Alice L. Soule, 93, wife of the late Doctor Gilmore W. Soule, departed from this life, Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at Windward Gardens, Camden. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, March 21, 1909, she was the daughter of Reverend Arthur F. and Marion Townsend Leigh. With her minister father, she lived in many communities throughout Maine as he served different pastorates. Her final secondary schooling was in Gardiner where she graduated from Gardiner High School in 1926. She later graduated from Simmons College and in 1930 from New England Deaconess Hospital, School of Nursing.

On March 27, 1933, she married Dr. Gilmore W. Soule in Derry, New Hampshire. After her marriage, Mrs. Soule continued her career as a Registered Nurse at the New England Deaconess Hospital.

She moved to Rockland with her husband in 1938. As a homemaker, her family was very important to her. She was involved in many community efforts including, volunteering with the Girls Scouts, PTA, Farnsworth Museum, Knox County Nurses Guild, Knox County Women's Hospital Auxiliary and as an active communicant of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. "My mother rallied for, and was passionately involved in the medical needs of this area," her daughter stated.

Following her husband's death in 1967, Mrs. Soule re-entered nursing as one of the first nurses with Mid-Coast Home Health, now known as Kno-Wal-Lin. In 1994, she moved to the Methodist home and in 1998 moved to Windward Gardens, where she has since resided.

Mrs. Soule is survived by one son, Daniel W. Soule and his wife Jeanne Gamage of York; one daughter, Mary Soule Ingalls and her husband John M., Sr., of Cape Elizabeth; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
