Marian Richardson Anderson, 91, activist, freethinker and force of nature, passed away on Friday January 6th.

Marian was born March 24, 1920 in Mobile, Alabama, the oldest of Lottie and Norman Richardson's five children. When Marian was in her teens the family moved to Galveston, Texas, as did their neighbors the Andersons, and in 1939 she married Charles Anderson, brother of her dear friend Mary. Three years later, son Charles Jr. came along, then in 1960 the Andersons moved to Houston where they remained for the rest of their lives.

Marian was an uncompromising idealist. Throughout her life she actively campaigned for peace, justice and human rights, still participating in political demonstrations into her 90s. She donated a huge portion of her income to charity and was always happy to devote her time to a cause she believed in. While the organizations Marian supported are too numerous to list, one that she was deeply involved in was the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom; she regularly volunteered at Peace Camp, a project for children sponsored by the WILPF. Marian was a born storyteller with a vast wealth of anecdotes to illustrate every stage of her life.

Her spirit and her stories will live on in the memories of her granddaughters Gretchen Smith, Christine Anderson, and Erin Diaz, grandsons-in-law David Smith and Hermes Diaz, great granddaughter Elysia Diaz, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
