July 21, 2009BEVERLY � Deborah G. (Gallager) Noble, 98, wife of the late Captain Gerome Noble, died early Saturday morning, July 18, 2009 at the Essex Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Beverly.
Daughter of the late Alfred and Rozella (Blanchard) Gallager, she had live at her family home at 57 Stanley Street for 95 years.
Deborah and her husband were the owners of Captain Nobles Fish Market on North Street in Salem for many years. Following the death of her husband, Deborah continued operating the market until the mid 1970's. She was very well known for her prepared casseroles at the market.
Deborah was a past president of the Junior Republican Club and also a member of the Diana Chapter of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Centerville Christian Endeavor Church; a church that her father had built. She was a past Sunday School Teacher at the Church. He most enjoyable times were spending time with her family. Her home was the meeting place for many family gatherings.
Surviving her are many nieces and nephews, but most especially, Christine "Jean" MacDonald and David B. Contarino. She was also the sister of the late Newcomb and Prince Gallager, Alma Jackson, Winifred Campbell Costopoulos, Helen Dormier, Edith Gallager Brown, and aunt of the late Robert W. Campbell. She was also the companion of the late Rodney Hoak.

November 24, 1996Sara Eleanor (Mayberry) Brodin Kocum, 89, of Tolland, died Friday (Nov. 22, 1996) in Tolland. She was the widow of Anthony J. Kocum and Berdon B. Brodin.
Born in Beverly Farms, MA, she had lived in Glastonbury and East Hartford before moving to Tolland. Sarah was formerly employed by the J.T. Slocum Co., Flannigan Bros., and Blish Hardware Co. Her true enjoyments in life were her love to travel and to ballroom dance. She was also very active in the East Glastonbury Methodist Church and the South Congregational Church, East Hartford.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Peter Freeman of East Hartford; and two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Donna Brodin of Vernon and Bernard and Ann Brodin of Manchester; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and her sister, Carrie Whigham of Beverly Farms, MA.

April 8, 2008MILFORD -- Frances Merrow, 84, died April 5, 2008, at Harborside Milford, after a long illness. She was born in Beverly, Mass., on Feb. 11, 1924, a daughter of Daniel L. and Mary L. (Hall) Haskell.
She was employed at Zax Corp in Nashua. She was a longtime resident of Drake Road in New Hampton, and was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post in Bristol for more than 60 years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roger C. Merrow, and a son, Timothy Merrow.
Family members include two daughters, Carol Merrow of Nashua, and Andrea Oswald of Merrimack; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen on Friday at 10 a.m. George R. Rivet Funeral Home in Merrimack is in charge of arrangements.

April 28, 2001Roger C. Merrow, 73, of Drake Road, New Hampton, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Franklin Regional Hospital in Franklin. He was born in Beverly, Mass., son of Carroll and Anna (Clark) Merrow. After retiring he settled in New Hampshire, living in Nashua, Grafton, and then New Hampton.
Mr. Merrow was the husband of Frances (Haskell) Merrow of New Hampton for 47 years.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 26 of Bristol and SAL Post No. 26 of Bristol. He served as adjunct for both groups at the time of his death. He was the adjunct for District 7 and past commander of District 7. He was also a member of the 40 and 8 of Belknap County, a member of the Masons in Beverly and Nashua, and a Shriner. He was a past member of the New Hampton Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Merrow served for seven years in the Navy and for 20 years in the Army. He served as a tank commander during the Korean War and Vietnam War.
He was predeceased by a son, Timothy Merrow, in 1999. In addition to his wife, Mr. Merrow is survived by two daughters, Carol Merrow of Nashua and Andrea Oswald of Merrimack; six grandchildren; and one greatgranddaughte

Born in Beverly, he was a graduate of Beverly High School. He was a retired drill sargeant in the U.S. Army, serving in Eastern Europe and twice in Vietnam. Mr. Haskell was a member of the American Legion Post 331 of Beverly and the American Legion Post in Nashua, N.H.
He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia D. DeFoe of Beverly; two sisters, Frances Merrow of Grafton, N.H. and Ethel Olson of Nashua, N.H.; a brother, George L. Haskell of Beverly; two granddaughters; four nieces and four nephews.

August 24, 2001Ethel (Kimball) Olson, 66, of 82� Lock St., Nashua, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, at home after a brief battle with cancer. Ms. Olson was born Feb. 27, 1935, in Salem, Mass., daughter of the late Daniel and Mary (Hall) Haskell.
She was the widow of John Olson, who died in June 1994.
Ms. Olson was an avid card player, and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, Fred Haskell; and a sister, Virginia Bower. Survivors include three sons, Mark A. Olson of Hudson, John P. Olson of Nashua, with whom she resided, and David S. Olson of Litchfield; a daughter, Cheryl Olson of Hudson; a brother, George Haskell of Beverly, Mass.; a sister, Francis Merrow of Merrimack; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Volume 23, No. 2, May 2014Ralph Haskell was twenty-three years of age when he enlisted in Boston, Massachusetts on 6 August 1917.
Reporting to Fort Slocum, Long Island New York he was assigned to the 94th Aero Squadron of the US Army Signal Corps as an aero engine mechanic. The 94th Aero Squadron was activated at Kelly Field, San Antonio, Texas on 20 August 1917 and this was where Ralph began his note book.
Ralph began his journey to France via Halifax, Nova Scotia and Liverpool, England on 27 October 1917. He landed in the UK on 10 November and reached La Harve, France, via Southampton on 13 November 1917. Based in Reuilly Barracks in the 12 arrondissement of Paris, Ralph began his training on the V8 Hispano-Suiza engine at the Breguet Aircraft Factory at Irvy-sur-Seine in the southern suburbs of Paris, travelling to the factory each day by water bus on the river Seine.
On completion of his training Ralph re-joined the 94th Squadron, also known as the "Hat In The Ring" Squadron, at Villeneuve in the Champagne-Ardenne region where they were flying French built rotary powered Nieuport 28 aircraft. The squadron then changed over to SP AD XIII aircraft, also French built, with but with Hispano-Suiza in-line engines.
The squadron moved to various airfields including Rembercourt and Toul in the Lorraine region of France 160 miles to the east of Paris, taking part in the Champagne-Marne, Aisne-Marne, Saint Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne campaigns.
On 25 October 1918 Ralph was transferred to the 648th Squadron and remained with this unit until he was Honourably Discharged at Camp Devens, Massachusetts on 5 July 1919.

Born in Beverly, he attended Beverly public schools and was a graduate of the Beverly Trade School.
An Army veteran of the 1916-17 Mexican Border Conflict, he also served in the US Navy during World War I on the USS Battleship Georgia.
Mr. Haskell retired in 1965 from the United Shoe Manufacturing Corp. in Beverly, where he had worked as a machinist for over 40 years.
He was a member of United Shoe Machinery Corp.'s quarter-century club, and was past president of the United Radio and Machine Workers of America, U.E. Local 271.
During World War II, he served on the War Manpower Commission in Salem and on the Beverly rationing board.
He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Beverly.
He leaves a daughter, Shirley Swanson of Danvers; two sons, Richard T. Haskell Jr. of Port Suez, Egypt and Florida and David E. Haskell of Guilford, Conn.; six grandchildren; and five great- grandchildren.

August 1, 2008Shirley E. (Haskell) Swanson, 81, of Danvers, died peacefully at home of congestive heart failure on July 31, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Albert A. Swanson, to whom she was married for 49 years.
Born in Beverly, the daughter of the late Richard T. Haskell and Myrtle (Parkinson) Haskell, she lived in Beverly until 1954, then in Danvers for the rest of her life.
As a girl, Mrs. Swanson studied tap dancing and singing at the Alice P. Duffee School of the Dance and with Florence Cerino of Lynn. She was well known in greater Boston for her appearances in variety shows, at civic and political organizations and on radio performances.
A 1941 graduate of Beverly High School, Shirley Haskell became a professional performer, represented by J.C. Collier Agency of Boston. In 1943, she joined USO Camp Shows, performing domestically in two tours, covering over 9,000 miles. She then toured the Caribbean, including Havana, Cuba, and the South Pacific Theater, where she performed in Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, the Philippine Islands, Korea and occupied Japan. During her travels, she visited with GIs from greater Boston and New England. She also met many show business celebrities, including Milton Berle, Sonia Henie, Sophie Tucker, Lew Ayres, Sabu The Elephant Boy Dastigar and Irving Berlin.
In 1946, she met her future husband, Albert Swanson of Everett, Wash., on her return trip from the war. Her last USO duty was aboard the Welcome Home Boat out of Seattle, Wash., where her troupe would sail out to meet homecoming troop ships.
Mrs. Swanson retired from show business to raise her daughters. She later worked at Jordan Marsh Co., SCM Shetland, SeaLand Corp., Crimson Travel, the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Danvers Housing Authority.
Shirley Swanson had many dear, lifelong friends, including The Bridge Girls, with whom she played cards and enjoyed good times for over 50 years.
Mrs. Swanson is survived by her daughters, Kristine Swanson and Victoria Bonarrigo and her husband, Thomas, of Danvers; a granddaughter, Kristine S. Taylor and her husband, Paul, of Danvers; a grandson, Daniel M. Donovan III and his fiancée, Erika Gorey, of Lynn; two nieces, Julia Haskell and Laura Tibbo of Connecticut; and two nephews, Jeffrey Haskell of Maryland and Lee Haskell of Maine.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Richard T. Haskell, formerly of California and David E. Haskell, formerly of Connecticut; a nephew, Capt. Michael S. Haskell; as well as two sisters-in-law, Marion R. Haskell and Carol A. Haskell.

Oct. 13, 1995Albert A. Swanson of Danvers, a retired historian and archivist for the Metropolitan District Commission for 19 years, died unexpectedly Wednesday at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. He was 75.
Born in Everett, Wash., Mr. Swanson was a veteran of World War II. He served in the Merchant Marine PT Boat test program and later worked for the Army Troop Transport Service.
Mr. Swanson was an active volunteer, working on the USS Constitution, lecturing on harbor and whale-watch cruises and organizing Operation Sail 1976.
He wrote articles for many historical publications and was a lay Eucharistic minister at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Beverly.
Mr. Swanson leaves his wife, Shirley (Haskell) of Beverly; two daughters, Kristine E. Swanson and Victoria Swanson Donovan, both of Danvers; a brother, Robert Lashua of Marysville, Wash.; and two grandchildren.

December 4, 2004Richard T. Haskell, 77, a Beverly native, died November 18, 2004, in Rancho Miraga, Calif., of congestive heart failure. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Dyer) Haskell, who died unexpectedly October 30 this year.
Mr. Haskell was the son of the late Richard T. Haskell and Myrtle (Parkinson) Haskell.
He was a 1945 graduate of Beverly High School and a locally known trumpet player. He enlisted in the Navy and was a radioman first class, serving on destroyer escorts in the South Pacific. He later re-enlisted for service in Trinidad, British West Indies.
In 1965, Mr. Haskell and his family moved to Westborough. He had been a warehouse and construction site manager, who had worked for several firms in Massachusetts, before being employed by Fluor, Inc. to work in Saudi Arabia and Egypt for seven years. Returning from overseas, Mr. Haskell had lived and worked in Florida and California.
He is survived by: his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey R. and Mary Frances Haskell, of Catonsville, Md. and their three children, Caitlin, Brian and Michael.
Jason Haskell and Melissa Miller, of Virginia, are children of his late son, Michael S. Haskell, a U.S. Marine captain, who was killed in the October 1983 Beirut bombings.
Mr. Haskell is also survived by: his sister, Shirley Haskell Swanson of Danvers; his first wife, Marion Robertson Haskell of Danvers; four nieces; and one nephew.
His brother, David E. Haskell, died in 2000.

Surviving Mrs. Haskell are her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Frann Haskell of Catonsville; grandchildren, Caitlain, Brian, Michael and Jason Haskell and Melissa Miller; sister, Elsie Clapp of Beverly, and nine nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Michael S. Haskell, a U.S. Marine captain killed in the 1983 Beirut bombings; sisters Eleanor MacKenzie and Jean Cressey; and her nephew, David MacKenzie.

August 20, 2014Danvers, MA William "Bill" Allen Haskell, 87, of Danvers, died peacefully at Beverly Hospital on August 18, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born in Beverly on May 4, 1927, and was the son of Francis and Mildred (Parker) Haskell. He graduated Beverly High School, and then was drafted into the U.S Army to become a World War II veteran.
At the end of his military career, he was employed by AC Lawrence Leather, then moved on to Salem Suede, from where he retired. Later, Bill worked as a bus monitor for special needs children. Bill's passions were spending time with family, tending to his lovely garden that included hosta and plenty of tomatoes, smoking cigars, and going on weekly outings with his wife.
In addition to his beloved wife, Sharon Ann (Winston) Haskell, with whom he shared 47 wonderful years of marriage, he is survived by his children, Kristen Haskell and Bradley Haskell; his daughter-in-law, Sandi Haskell; his grandchildren, Michael Spiewak, Casey Haskell, Christopher Walfield, Phillip Walfield, and Kendra Walfield; his two great-granddaughters; his brother, Norman Haskell; his sister, Sharon Ballentine; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Robert Haskell, Frank Haskell, Donald Haskell, and Bettyjean Pelletier.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia "Marty" (Spaneas) Haskell of Danvers, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage; a son, Charles "Chuck" Haskell of Middleton; two daughters, Donna St. Pierre of Georgetown, and Cheryl Silva of Danvers; two brothers, William Haskell of Danvers and Norman Haskell of Lynn; two sisters, Betty Pelletier of Wenham and Sharon Ballantine of Beverly; eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Frank S. Haskell and Mildred (Parker) Haskell and brother of the late Robert Haskell and Frank Haskell.

August 20, 1930 - September 28, 2018Skowhegan, ME - Norman P. Haskell died peacefully at his home; he was 88 years old.
Norman was born in Beverly on August 20, 1930, the son of Frank and Mildred (Parker) Haskell. He graduated from Beverly High School then joined the U.S. Army, where he was stationed at the Army Chemical Center in Maryland.
Following his honorable discharge, Norman went on to become a Construction Superintendent. After his retirement from construction, he worked as a bus driver for North Reading Transportation until 2011.
Norman loved to travel in his motor-home with extended family all over the USA. One of his last adventures was to take a cruise to Alaska with his son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed doing carpentry projects at home.
He is survived by his children Scot Haskell, James Haskell, Kim (Mosley) Powers, Lisa Mosley, his grandchildren Crystal Haskell and Justin Packard, his sisters-in-law Sharon Haskell and Veronica Poe, brothers-in-law Robert Pelletier and Robert Ballentine, and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise R. Haskell, siblings Robert Haskell, Frank Haskell, Donald Haskell, William Haskell, Betty Jean Pelletier, and son Robert Haskell.

August 29, 2012WENHAM � Bettyjean (Haskell) Pelletier, 78, beloved wife of Robert A. Pelletier, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage, passed away after a lengthy illness on Monday, August 27, at her home, surrounded by her family. Born in Beverly, she is the daughter of the late Frank and Mildred (Parker) Haskell.
Mrs. Pelletier worked as a dietary aid at Beverly hospital and the Sylvania Plant while in high school. She also worked with her loving husband at Atlantic TV and at Ames in Beverly before retiring. Mrs. Pelletier loved spending time and cooking with her family. She was also an avid knitter with many loving sweaters made for her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four daughters, Robin Wilson and Dawn Pelletier of Wenham, and Candy McNeill of Danvers, and Tracye Jernegan of Ipswich; one son, Joseph Pelletier of Danvers; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Norman Haskell and William Haskell; one sister, Sharon Ballentine. She is sister of the late Donald Haskell, Frankie Haskell and Robert Haskell.

September 23, 1939 - November 13, 2014BEVERLY: Sharon E. (Haskell) Ballentine, 75, beloved wife of Robert Ballentine Sr., died Thursday, November 13, 2014, at her home, surrounded by family.
Born and raised in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mildred (Parker) Haskell. She received her education in the Beverly School System and graduated from Beverly High School.
A lifelong resident of the city of Beverly, Sharon was an avid Patriots fan. Most of all, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, with whom she had shared 59 years of marriage, she is survived by three daughters, Julie Ballentine-Bogrett and Stan of Chicopee, Lorri Jean Cottrell of Texas and Debbie Ballentine of Beverly; a son, Robert Ballentine Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Beverly; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Norman Haskell of Maine, several nieces and nephews; and her pet dogs and longtime companions, Buddy and Bella. She was also the sister of the late Betty Jean Pelletier, William, Donald, Frank, and Robert Haskell.
