CARBONDALE - Ruth L. Porter, 93, of Carbondale, formerly of California and Chicago, died Saturday, June 24, 2006, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
She was born Nov. 22, 1912, in Chicago, a daughter of the late Lester E. and Inez (Purvis) Lyon.

She married Winston S. Porter on Sept. 29, 1934, and he preceded her in death July 28, 1987.

Mrs. Porter was a retired secretary for the Boy Scouts of America and the Highland Park school district.

She was an avid bridge player, an accomplished artist and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carbondale.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynne P. Shildler and husband, Jon, of Carbondale; four grandchildren, Kathe Jose, Tom Porter and Jim Porter, all of California, and Julie Brehmer of Michigan; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Robert George Porter on
March 5, 1991; five brothers and four sisters.
