YARMOUTH - Douglas Killam, 57, of Richmond, Yarmouth County, was drowned Sunday afternoon as he and his companion Claude Mattison (sic), were canoeing in Killams Lake. The canoe overturned and the two were plunged into the lake. Killam could not swim.
BODY RECOVERED
A search party headed by the local detachment of the RCMP dragged for the body and it was found at about 6:45 p.m. the same day. Mr. Killam, son of the late George A. and Helena (Wetmore) Killam, is survived by his wife, Bertha (Gavel), two sons Douglas and Garth, at home; two daughters, Lorraine (Mrs. Jerry Deveau), Yarmouth, Helena (Mrs. Robert Surette), Scarboro, Ont. Two brothers, Ernest, Sydney and Robert, Kingston, Ont.

CROSBY, Elsie Vera � died in her sleep on December 27, 2011. Born in Waltham, England, she was the eldest daughter of the late Sidney and Nell (Markham) Blakeman.
When it became mandatory to join the war effort, she enlisted in the R.A.F. and joined the No. Nine Bomber Group in Suffolk. While there, she met her husband-to-be, F/LT. Knowles Bing Crosby D.F.M., of Port Maitland. After thirty-seven trips over Europe, Knowles was transferred to the Special Cases Board in Ottawa, followed shortly after by Elsie. After leaving the Air Force, they settled near Yarmouth and established Crosbys Florist and Nurseries, which they ran successfully for over thirty years. Elsie was always very active in sports and played on the N.A.A.F. field hockey team. After her two children were school age, she joined the Curling and Golf Club. She held many offices in these sports. Locally, she was President and Secretary of the Ladies Golf Division, President and Match Chairman of the Ladies Curling Division and chaired two provincial championships. Provincially, she was President of the Nova Scotia Ladies Curling Association, member of the board of Sport Nova Scotia, member of the board of the Nova Scotia Curling Hall of Fame and Museum. Nationally, she was President of the Canadian Ladies Curling Association, Chairman of Curl Canada, member of the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame, Chairman of the Hall of Fame Selection Committee and inducted in the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame as a Builder. She was a card carrying coach and instructor, and was an original inductee in to the Yarmouth Town and County Sport Heritage Hall. She was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church for fifty-six years and a member of the choir for almost fifty years. She was a Regent (President) and Education Secretary of I.O.D.E. An ardent animal lover, she was a member of the S.P.C.A. for nearly thirty years.She is survived by son, Derek (Barbara), Centre Burlington; daughter, Debra, Halifax; sister, Nancie, England; brothers, Roy and Eric, both of England; Allan, Richmond Hill, Ont.; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband, Knowles.

FARMINGTON - Thomas S. Wetmore, 79, of Farmington, died unexpectantly at his home on Wednesday afternoon.
He was born in Chesterville on May 20, 1913, son of Stayley G. and Gertrude Nutting Wetmore. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Wilton Academy in 1932. On Nov. 25, 1934, he married Madeline L. Wing of Chesterville. Mr. Wertmore was self employed as a farmer and raised beef cattle for many years. He also worked for G. H. Bliss for 28 years before retiring in 1978. He was a member of the North Chesterville Baptist Church. His favorite hobby was working on crossword puzzles.
Mr. Wetmore is survived by his wife of 58 years, Madeline of Farmington; two daughters, Mrs. Philip (Elnora) Clement of Durham and Mrs. Conrad (carol) Taylor of Chesterville; a sister, Gertrude Archer of chesterville; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his twin brother Frederick, in 1990.

January 28, 2003DOVER -- Alice D. Mahoney, 87, formerly of Olde Madbury Lane, died Jan. 26, 2003, at Rochester Manor. Born Dec. 17, 1915, in Lynn, Mass., she was the daughter of Bernard and Abbie (Ridlon) Goudey. Raised in Lynn, she was a graduate of Classical High School.
She worked for G.E. in Lynn for many years and was a hostess at Paul Roger House in Revere. She lived in Durham for 25 years before moving to Dover in 1992.Mrs. Mahoney owned an operated Mahoney's Restaurant in Hampton and Durham. She also worked in the Alumni Office at the University of New Hampshire prior to her retirement.
Since living in New Hampshire, she has been a communicant of the Church of St. Thomas More, Durham.She was a devoted wife and mother.
Her husband, James J. Mahoney Sr., died in 1995, and a son, Thomas M. Mahoney, died in 1997.
Family members include a son, James J. Mahoney Jr. of Barrington; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a brother, Bradford Goudey of Lynn, Mass.; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and great-grandnieces.

March 15, 2006Mr. Bradford S. Goudey, 88, of Lynn, died on Monday, March 13, 2006 at his home after a brief illness. He was the husband of Catherine Keaney Goudey, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Bernard and Abbie (Ridlon) Goudey. He was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School, Class of 1935.
He served in the Navy during World War II until 1945. Upon his discharge from the Navy he enlisted in the Air Force served through the Korean War into the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force, attaining the rank of master sergeant after serving for a total of 26 years.
He later worked at the GE West Lynn Plant for many years, retiring in 1982.
He was a former member of the Masons, Damascus Lodge.Mr. Goudey also leaves a son, Robert Goudey of Martha's Vineyard; a daughter, Judy Johnson of Lynn; and five grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Ruth Powell and Alice Mahoney.

June 30, 2011LYNN Mrs. Catherine N. (Keaney) Goudey, 93 of Lynn died Wednesday in the Jewish Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Bradford S. Goudey with whom she shared 66 years of marriage.
Catherine was born in the "Brickyards" of Lynn, with the map of Ireland glowing on her Gaelic face, and with beautiful red hair. Her parents the late Christopher and Delia (Connolly) Keaney came from Ireland.
There was no one nicer than Catherine and she may have been the leprechaun of the Keaney Family. She was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School Class of 1936. Catherine was a lifelong resident of Lynn.
Catherine was a resident at Sunrise at Gardner Park in Peabody where she has resided for the past six years. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise for all the love and support they gave to Catherine.
Catherine was a huge fan of the Boston Bruins and loved watching her favorite soap operas "General Hospital" and "Days of Our Lives." Catherine is survived by her daughter Judith Johnson and her husband Wayne of Lynn and her son Robert Goudey and his wife Carol of Marthas Vineyard.
She was a devoted grandmother to her five grandchildren Tara Friedman, Kelly McGarvey, Brad, Corey and Kevin Goudey.
She is also survived by her great grandchildren Morgan McGarvey and Logan Meaney and many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Tom, Edward, John, Marty, Frank and Paul Keaney.
