Velda R. Rodman, 96, of Peace Dale, died Saturday. She was the beloved wife of the late S. Lyman Rodman.
Born in Newport she was a daughter of the late Charles and Jane Hoffman.
Mrs. Rodman was a Kindergarten Aide at Stepping Stone Kindergarten, and was a long time member of the Calvary Bible Church in Narragansett.
She is survived by three sons, Kenneth V. Hoffman of South Kingstown, David L. Rodman and his wife Donni of Berlin, MA and South Kingstown, and Thomas R. Rodman and his wife Nina Zanella of Copper Hill, VA; six grandchildren, Isaac and Nathaniel, Katherine, Rebecca, and Sarah, and Alyson; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Samuel, and William.
She was the mother of the late Cynthia N. Thomas.

March 31, 2000LIZTON � Viola E. Arnold, 86, of Lizton, formerly of Martinsville, died Thursday at Danville Regional Rehabilitation Center in Danville.
Born May 20, 1913, in Martinsville, she was the daughter of Ira and Daisy (Grubbs) Eubank. She was a 1931 graduate of Martinsville High School.
She had been employed as a secretary for Neal & Summers Mortuary for several years and later for Martinsville School District, retiring in 1973. She was a member of First Christian Church in Martinsville and was a former member of Tri Kappa Sorority.
Survivors include one son, Jack Bowman of Lizton; one stepdaughter, Connie Noel of Monrovia; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Julius Bowman, in 1969; her second husband, Fred Arnold, in 1997; one daughter, Andre Bates, in 1997; and two brothers, George Eubank and Sam Eubank.

The daughter of Sidney S. & Lillian Young Smith.She graduated from the Punxsutawney High School and she attended Allegheny College in Meadville,Pennsylvania. She later graduated from Ohio State University and obtained her MA degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
She was married to William Mechling Jr. on 6 June 1939.
She had worked as a substitute Teacher for the Punxsutawney School District and was a member of the Punxsutawney Presbyterian Church,the Irving Club and the A.A.U.W. She was the Vice President of the Punxsutawney Memorial Library Board and a member of the Friends of the Library.

Born in Dayton (Armstrong Co), son of Will & Blanche (KIRKPATRICK) MECHLING, & brother to David, John & Mary. He married, Sydney S (SMITH), their children: Gale, Lynn & William S/ MECHLING.
William attended Grove City College, 1935 graduated from Penn State Univ; received Master of Science degree from University of Pittsburgh, teaching in Dayton & Knox PA schools, and was head of Agriculture Dept of Punxsutawney Area School District for 25 yrs until 1968 retirement.
A member of: Presbyterian Church in Punxsutawney, serving as elder; Free & Accepted Masons; the Coudersport Consistory; Jaffa Shrine Temple; Punxsutawney Country Club; BPOE Lodge #301 in Punxsutawney.
1966, served on Board of Directors of Circle Hill Cemetery Association, on Boardd of Punxsutawney Community Concert Association; & was the 1st president of Punxsutawney Home Health Service.
He was known as an expert refinisher & restorer of antique furniture.

A son of William & Sydney Smith Mechling of 202 Greenwood Avenue in Punxsutawney. He passed away at the Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh of injuries he received in an auto accident in North Mahoning Township,Indiana County on July 3rd.

Anna was born & raised in Punxsutaney and was educated at the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr,Pennsylvania and the Grier School in Tyrone, Pennsylvania.
She was twice married,1st to John S. Carlton who passed away in 1972. They were the parents of these known children:

Anna had been a resident of the Gladwyne ,Pennsylvania area since about 1950.She also maintained homes in Avalon, New Jersey; Nantucket,Massachusetts and Venice, Florida.
She was a member of St. Christopher's Church in Gladwyne.
She passed away at the Paoli Memorial Hospital in Paoli,Chester County,Pennsylvania.

January 21, 1950Funeral services are being planned today for Mrs. Gertrude G. Eaton of 104 Dennett street, widow of the late Roswell Eaton, who died Thursday after a long illness.
She was born in Brooklin, Me., Luly 17, 1863, but had resided in this city for the past 30 years.
She was a member of the South Blue Hill Grange of Blue Hill, Me., and attended the Baptist church.
Survivors include two sons, Earle E. Beede of Portsmouth and Ralph E. Beede of Boston; a sister, Mrs. Addie Pierce of Addie Pierce of Ellsworth, Me., 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

While the 1870 and 1880 census lists Gertrude as Gertrude Haskell, the marriage record for her son Earle Beede lists her as Gertrude Wilson. This is further supported by the 1880 census of an Ada Wilson in the family, probably the Addie Pierce listed as her sister in her obituary.

July 14, 1964Earl Everett Beede, 74, of 98 Dennett St., died at Portsmouth Hospital today. He was born in Surry, Maine, July 26, 1989, the son of George W, and Gertrude Beede.
He resided in Blue Hill, Maine, before moving to Portsmouth in 1920. He was employed by the Morley Co. here for more than 20 years. He was employed by the Wood Newspaper Machinery Corp. of New York and the National Gypsum Co., from which he retired six years ago.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs, Doris (House) Beede; four sons, Bance [sic Vance] and Arnold Beede, both of Blue Hill, and Everett and Earl E. Beede, Jr., both of Portsmouth; a stepson, Stephen O. Sinclair of Whittier, Calif.; five daughters, Mrs. Nancy Ruth of Maryland, Mrs. Vivian Ryan of Brookville, Maine, and Mrs, Dorothea Pinto. Mrs, Lois Shapleigh and Mrs. Gertrude Harrington, all of Portsmouth; 34 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
