Robert K. Haskell, who won both a Bronze Star and a Legion of Merit Medal during a 31-year career in the Army, died of heart failure at his home in Santa Rosa on July 20. He was 98.

Haskell, who was born in Berkeley and lived part of his adolescence in Glen Ellen, joined the Army after his sophomore year at UC Berkeley. That same year, 1923, he got married in Santa Rosa and moved to his first posting in Tacoma, Washington. Soon the military decided to send him back to school and he received his undergraduate and master's degrees in metallurgy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

With an expertise in ordnance, Haskell helped oversee the construction of weapons factories and later became a field adviser to combat commanders. He was just 43 when promoted to the rank of colonel at the beginning of World War II. He served as a training officer before being sent into combat himself in the Pacific. It was during action in the Pacific that he was decorated with two of the Army's highest honors.

He retired from the military in 1954 and took a job in the private sector in New York. In 1963, he retired from the business world as well and built a house in the Wikiup section of Santa Rosa where he lived until recent years. He was a member of the Santa Rosa Luther Burbank Lodge, #57; and a 75-year member of the Henry A. Greene Lodge.

He is survived by his daughter, June Farrahy of Santa Rosa; granddaughters, Leslie Jensen of Hyattsville, Maryland and Jessie Rennaker of Sanger, Texas; grandson, Thomas Farrahy III of Minden, Nevada; as well as five great grandchildren.

Deceased Name: FARRAHY, June Haskell, passed away after a brief illness on Saturday, January 12, 2008 in Santa Rosa.

June was the loving daughter of Myrtle Estella and Colonel Robert Kelsey Haskell, USA Ret., former long time residents of Santa Rosa.

She was born in Fort Lewis, WA on January 16, 1926 and travelled the U.S. as the daughter of Army Colonel Haskell. June graduated from Mount Vernon Seminary (now George Washington University) and Carnegie Tech University in Pittsburgh, PA (now Carnegie Mellon University) with a degree in home economics. June was famous for her skills as a seamstress.

She married her former husband, Thomas J. Farrahy, Jr. (deceased) in June 1950 at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, MD. June retired from Sonoma County Social Services and was a former member of the Santa Rosa Welfare League.

Survivors include two children, Leslie A. Jensen of Bowie, MD, and Thomas J. Farrahy of South Lake Tahoe, CA; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Jessie T. Rennaker of Sanger, Texa

Allan Rikkola died on Monday, June 14, 2004, at Patriots Colony at Williamsburg. He was born on Jan. 26, 1910, in Peabody, Mass. He lived in Danvers, Mass., for 61 years before moving to Williamsburg. He was the son of Anton Rikkola and Matilda Kumpumaki. He was a graduate of Dartmouth College and spent his 37-year business career with The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation. He retired in 1972 as New England Regional Reporting Manager for Dun & Bradstreet.

He was active in his home community of Danvers, Mass., where he was a Town Meeting Member and a member of the Zoning Appeals Board. He also was a Trustee and choir member at Maple Street Congregational Church in Danvers.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Eleanor.

He is survived by his son, Allan Rikkola Jr. of Williamsburg and his daughter, Elaine Tedeschi of Scituate, Mass., and Bonita Springs, Fla.; a brother, Alvan Rikkola of Lake Worth, Fla., and three grandchildren.

BEVERLY   John L, Haskell, husband of Catherine R. (Reid) Haskell, of 35 East Corning St. died Wednesday at the age of 67. Mr. Haskell was born in Beverly, the son of the late Albert and Emma Haskell.

He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and before retirement, was employed for many years by the Internal Revenue Service in Boston.

He was a member of the Dane Street Congregational Church, Liberty Lodge A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies of Salem, Massachusetts Consistory, and the Aleppo Temple Shrine in Wilmington.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Haskell is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth, wife of Paul Champagne of Auburndale, and Diane, wife of Richard Wilbur of Elmira, N.Y.; five grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor, wife of Allan Rikkola of Danvers.

RYE, N.H. -- Ruth E. Mann, 89, formerly of Hampton, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2007, in Nye, N.H.

She was born Oct. 14, 1917, in South Windham, and graduated from Windham, High School in 1935. Ruth married Everett W. Mann of Windham in 1936 and raised three children. In 1956 they moved to Hampton and later retired to Lovell. Ruth was a much loved mother and grandmother. Ruth's generous, kindly and sweet nature will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband; and two grandchildren. Survivors include her children, Donna Tenny of Windham, William Mann and Anita Pounder of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Caitlyn Johnson, Annette Fecteau, Juanita Mohn, Joanne Tenney, Edward Marshall, Shelley Falconer, Tracy Falconer, Tammy Marshall, Sandi Pounder, and Laurie Pounder; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great- grandchildren.

Richard "Dick" FRINK, age 75, passed away, 3/11/2008, in Lacey, WA. He was born 4/22/1932 in Ketchikan, AK, but has been a resident of this area for 54 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Frink, of 38 years.

He is survived by son, Larry Frink; two daughters, Laurie (Steve) Ufer and Lynette (John) Emerson; seven grand children; three great-grandchildren; and many loving extended family and friends.

SOUTH PORTLAND -- Richard 'Dick' E. Cousins, 85, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014.

Dick was born on June 21, 1929, in Westbrook, the son of Robert E. Cousins and Ethel M. Berry. He grew up in Morrill's Corner in Portland, and graduated from Deering High School, class of 1947.

Dick was employed by the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram for 46 years. He began his career slinging newspapers from the back of the delivery trucks. From there, he moved into the mailroom, then to district manager overseeing a group of paper boys/girls, to eventually becoming circulation manager. He spent his entire career with the newspaper's owner, Guy Gannett Publishing. He then worked for Prime Motors from 1996 to 2011.

Dick was a veteran serving his country in the Army from 1951-1953, and rose to the rank of corporal in two years. He was an active member in the South Portland community. He was a member of the S.P. Lions Club, and served as its president in 1976-1977. He was a member of the Elks, a participant in the 'Right to Read' program, and he also served six years on the South Portland Civil Service Commission.

He enjoyed umpiring Little League games for several years and was involved with the Farm League and the Red Riots. One of his proudest accomplishments was being named president of the New England Newspaper Executives Association in 1991. He was elected by his peers from newspapers all over New England.

Dick loved the Patriots and Red Sox and golf. Although Dick took up the game of golf late in life, he became an avid golfer, and a member of Willowdale Golf Course.

Dick was a kind man and always a gentleman who loved people and life.

Dick was predeceased by his brothers, Ronald Cousins, Robert Cousins and Dana Cousins.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Eleanor M. Cousins; their two sons, Richard Cousins of Portland, and David Cousins and his wife Jean of South Portland; his granddaughter, Dayna Cousins of Los Angeles, Calif., his grandson, Jackson Cousins of South Portland; cousin, Randall White and his wife Joyce; along with 16 nieces and nephews.

GROVE - Funeral service for Ronald E. Cousins, 69, who died Monday, May 21, 2001 at his home in Grove, were Thursday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Lanman Funeral Home Chapel in Cherokee with Pastor Ed Jones officiating.

Burial followed at Auburn Cemetery southwest of Cherokee. Arrangements were by Lanman Funeral Home of Cherokee.

He was born in Portland, Maine on December 1, 1931, the son of Robert Earl and Ethel Mae Berry Cousins. On May 11, 1952 he and Carol White were married in Cherokee. They lived in Wichita, Kan. where he was a retired Wichita Police Detective Lieutenant, and also retired from Boeing Aircraft. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Grove; one son, Ronald D. Cousins, of Grove; one daughter, Caron Dumler, of Erie, Pa.; his mother-in-law, Orvella White, of Grove, formerly of Cherokee; one brother, Richard E. Cousins, of South Portland, Maine and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Cousins, and one brother, Ronald B. Cousins.

Robert B. Cousins, 62, of Portland died Thursday at his residence.

He was born here, a son of Robert E. and Ethel M. Berry Cousins, and graduated from Deering High School.

From 1955 to 1957, Mr. Cousins served in the Army with a military police unit, and retired from the Army Reserve.

For 22 years he was a police officer with the Portland Police Department, retiring in 1979.

He was a 32nd-degree member of Cornerstone Masonic Lodge, a member of the Elks, the Harold T. Andrews Post of the American Legion, the Amvets and the VFW.

Surviving are two brothers, Richard of South Portland and Ronald E. of Wichita, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
