February 10, 1987Funeral services will be held tomorrow for Edson Adams, a direct descendant of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams, and whose great-grandfather founded Oakland.
Mr. Adams, a skilled and daring amateur aviator who traveled the world in his aircraft, died at seventy-nine on Friday in Menlo Park, where he had moved about a month ago.
Nicki Weicker of Palo Alto, the wife of Mr. Adams' nephew, Theodore, described him as a "very private man, but also highly social in that he traveled the world and made friends from all walks of life in every corner of the globe."
Mr. Adams' adventures began at a young age. He merited a newspaper headline in 1929 when, at age twenty-one, he rode a motorcycle from New York to San Francisco in about a week, an explosive pace on a two-wheeler for that time.
An Oakland native, Mr. Adams lived in San Francisco and Marin County most of his life. Adams Point, on the north side of what is now Lake Merritt in Oakland, is named after his pioneering ancestors, who resided there in some splendor after the city's mid-nineteenth century founding.
Mr. Adams was a member and past commander of the San Francisco Air Sheriff's Squadron.
Survivors include a daughter, Andre Shorum of San Leandro; a sister, Mrs. Richard P. Caroe of San Francisco; and three grandchildren.

November 17, 2019Larry Haskell was born in Seattle, WA on September 8, 1937 to Robert and Doris Haskell. He fell asleep in death on August 23, 2019 after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Johansen Haskell of 56 years, their children, Kimberly Huber, Troy Haskell, Nathan Haskell, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way.
In 1974 Larry formed a successful Manufacturers' Representative business, which he worked hard at for many years. He was an avid sports enthusiast. There was hardly a sport he didn't enjoy and he loved to reminisce about his basketball and baseball days at Lincoln High School. As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, he loved sharing with people the Bible's hope of a paradise earth, when diseases such as Alzheimer's will be things of the past. We miss Larry who was taken from us all too soon by such a dreaded disease.
