August 22, 2005AUBURN � Rachel H. Germond, 99, a resident of Auburn for 40 years, died on Aug. 20, at Clover Health Care Facilities.
She was born on Aug. 4, 1906, in Mechanic Falls, the daughter of the late Herman and Mary (Crooker) Haskell of Boston and Portland. She attended Portland schools, graduating from Portland High School in 1924.
She was married to E. Stanley Robinson of Bath in 1936; he passed away in 1965. She married John W. Germond of Auburn in 1971, who later passed away in 1997.
She retired from B. Peck Co. in 1971, after 18 years in the credit office. She also worked several years for Owen Moore in the Auburn Mall.
She was a past president of the Credit Women's International and a member of the United Methodist Church, serving as treasurer for three years, member of the finance board and leader of the Naomi Circle for several years at the church.
She is survived by her son, William A. Robinson and his wife, Dorothy, of Lewiston; stepson, Jack W. Germond of Washington, D.C.; granddaughters, Diane Boulanger of Hartford and Penny Robinson of Lewiston; stepdaughter, Jessica Germond of Washington, D.C.; and four great-grandchildren.

March 14, 1988Portland - Karl H. Reichel, 67, of 73 Sunset Ave,m Auburn, died Saturday at Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Lewiston, Nov. 30, 1920, the son of Henry and Martha Hahnel Reichel.
He graduated from Lewiston High School and Wentworth Institute in Boston. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was married to the former Helen Roye for many years; she died Jan. 11, 1980.
He was affiliated with Harriman Associates in Auburn for more than 28 years, retiring a few years ago. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Auburn, Tranquil Lodge 29, AF and AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Mainr Consistory, Kora Temple and Lewiston-Auburn Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include one son, Stephen K. of Auburn; one stepson, George Jillson of Windham; one brother, Ernest of Lewoston; and three grandchildren.

March 22, 2009AUBURN � Marian Rowe Bower, 87, also known as Mimi and Mernie, passed away at Schooner Estates on Saturday, March 21, with her loving family at her side.
She lived a full life and will be remembered by all for her dynamic personality and her great sense of humor.
She was born Marian Betina Rowe in Mechanic Falls on March 9, 1922, daughter of Ruth Haskell and Lendall Rowe. She graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1940, married Frank Myrick in 1941 and went to Bernard's Hair School in Lewiston, where she graduated at the top of her class. She then opened and operated her own beauty shop in Mechanic Falls.
She married Phil Bower in 1952 and enjoyed a fairytale love affair marriage with him until his death 16 years later.
She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Women's Literary Union in Auburn, and was a 50-plus year member of the Auburn Methodist Church on Park Avenue.
Marian was an avid golfer in her day, winning B flight at Fairlawn Golf Course, where she was a member. She was also an accomplished seamstress and knitter, and showered her family with the fruits of her labors. She always had a smile and a joke, right up to the end. She epitomized the "glass half full" and has imparted that attitude on all she encountered. Her family extends its undying gratitude to the Schooner Estate Residential Care staff, who, for the past seven years, have filled Marian's days with love, laughter and amazing personal care.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Nyberg and husband, Paul Nyberg, of Auburn, and her daughter, Candy Gleason and her husband, Doug Gleason, also of Auburn; grandchildren, Deanna Nyberg-Vincecruz, Karl Nyberg, Brian Gleason and Danny Gleason; great-grandchildren, Todd and Amy Nyberg, Lucas, Cody, and Owen Vincecruz, and Kelsey and Delaney Nyberg; and two stepsons, Philip Allen Bower of South Portland and James Claude Bower of Old Orchard.
She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Nichols Bower, in 1970; and by her grandson, Darren Nyberg, in 1996.

Clarence of Megquier Hill Road, West Poland, passed away peacefully at the Hospice House with his children by his side.
He was born to Muriel K. (Haskell) and Lewis B. Whittier. He was educated in Poland and Mechanic Falls schools. He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1948.
He went on to proudly serve his country during the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant 1st Class in the U. S. Army.
Upon his return, he was employed at C. B. Cummings and Marcal Paper. He retired from School Union No. 29 after serving as a custodian for many years.
His passion was the outdoors, always proud of his garden and lawns, as well as cutting wood. He also enjoyed feeding the ducks at Roak Block in Auburn.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra and Andrea; son, Michael and his wife, Nancy, of West Poland; five grandchildren, Benjamin, Samantha, Rebecca, Brian and David; three great-grandsons; and siblings, Lilla Sylvester, Sylvia Lowell and James Whittier.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Jason Phillips; and siblings, Charles, Frances, Elizabeth and Bruce.

Tyrian Lodge #73 AF&AM, and all Masons, lost a Brother, and the world lost a great humanitarion and friend on September 9, 1997. Bruce M. Whittier, "Mr. Whit", 52, of Mechanic Falls was killed in a freak accident when he stopped to render assistance at an accident scene when a trailer truck snagged a sagging guy wire which pulled a brken guy wire pole onto him.
"Mr. Whit", born and raised in Poland, taught at the Poland Community School for 27 years, remaining on the staff for 2 more years before retiring.

Born Dec. 9, 1894, in Lena, the daughter of Nicholas and Emms Reiland.
Married Alfred Stevens on May 16, 1916; he predeceased her.
She was employed as a postmistress for 20 years at Nora Post Office, Nora, Ill.
Survivors include her daughter, Olga Teuscher; granddaughter, Karen (Jim) MacNames; and great-granddaughter, Ann MacNames. all of Crystal Lake.

Apple River - Capt. Dale M. Francomb, 40, a native of Apple River, died Friday in Japan. He was on his fourth tour of duty overseas and had just returned to Japan from a tear's service in Korea.
He was born in Appl;e River in 1916, son of Alonzo and Alice Gindey Francomb. He ellisted in the Army in Oct. 1940, and in 1942 married the former Effie Stevens of St. Paul, Minn.
He is survived by his wife and two sons, Robert and William. St. Paul; his mother, Apple Riverl two brothers, James, Darrington, Lyle, Elizabeth; and two sisters.
