Kenneth William Swallow died Sunday in a local hospice. He was born Nov. 15, 1910, in Kansas. He was an assistant postmaster at the Boulder City Post Office, a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Masons.

He is survived by one son, Craig Heming Swallow.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday for William S. Haskell, 63, former employee of a Dallas engraving company.

Haskell, a resident of Dallas for twenty-six years before moving to Indianapolis, Ind., died last Sunday while on vacation in Yellowstone National Park, Wyo. He moved to Indianapolis in 1936. He had worked here as a photo-engraver with the Southwestern Engraving Company.

Survivors include his wife; mother, Mrs. Ellen Haskell and brother, George Haskell, both of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Surviving are his wife, a 2 year old daughter, Marian Sarah; his mother, Mrs. Roberet McCordock of Harrogate, Tenn.; a brother and sister. He livede at 331 East Big Bend boulevard, Webster Groves.

Mrs. Clarence Preston

Mrs. Livonia Pierce Preston, wife of Clarence Preston, died a her home at 7:15 o'clock Wednesday evening after being in failing health for the past three years. Death was due to colitis.

Mrs. Preston, a daughter of Roger and Livonia Pierce, was born at South Dansville on June 21, 1897. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Caledonia.

On June 20, 1920, she married Mr. Preston, who survives with two sons, Roger and James, and a daughter, Ruth at home.

Clarence Preston, 91, of 910 Pamlico Dr., Cary, N.C., a brother of Mrs. Grace Davis of East Pembroke, died Friday (Jan. 28, 1983) at Rex Hospital, Raleigh, N.C.

A retired farm operator, he was born in Michigan, Sept. 1, 1891, a son of William and Anna Webb Preston. He was the husband of the late Lavonia Pierce Preston.

Surviving with his sister are a daughter, Mrs. Ruth White of Cary; two sons, James of Ithaca, and Roger of Minoa, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Roger W. Preston, Sr. passed away on March 20, 2011, in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. Mr. Preston, a resident of Henderson Harbor, NY, was born on April 7, 1921, in Caledonia, NY; the son of Clarence and Livonia Pierce Preston. He was married to Grace DeCamp on August 28, 1943.

He is survived by his loving wife Grace, sons, Roger Jr. (Diana) of Margate, Fl and Richard (Peggy) of Peoria, AZ, grandchildren, Jeremy (Casey) and Christopher (Rebecca), great-grandchildren, Grace, Kate, Collin and Reese. Other survivors include his sister, Ruth (Robert) White of Cary, NC and brother, James (Gretta) Preston of Hector, NY. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is a graduate of East Pembroke High School, where he was valedictorian. Mr. Preston joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, where he served in the South Pacific on an LSM, until his discharge in 1946 as a Quartermaster 3rd class. He graduated from Cornell University in 1949 with a B.S. degree from the College of Agriculture. After spending many years in the field of education, Mr. Preston retired from the North Syracuse Central School system as a Dean at Cicero High School. As 50 plus year members of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, Roger and Grace were very active with their many friends. Upon retirement, they traveled extensively from coast to coast in their motorhome, acquiring friends from Canada to California.

Grace D. Preston passed away on June 4, 2012, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Mrs. Preston, a resident of Henderson Harbor, NY, was born May 12, 1920 in Groton, NY., the daughter of Charles and Florence Robinson DeCamp. She married Roger Preston on August 23, 1943 who predeceased her in death.

She is survived by sons Roger Jr. (Diana) of Margate, FL and Richard (Peggy) of Peoria, AZ, grandchildren Jeremy (Casey) and Christopher (Rebecca), great grandchildren Grace, Kate, Collin and Reese. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a 1943 graduate of Crouse Memorial School of Nursing. She obtained her Bachelor's degree and Master's Degree from Syracuse University. She spent many years in the Fayetteville-Manlius School District retiring from Mott Rd Elementary in 1980.

Grace was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star and held the honor of the 50 Plus Membership with Chapter 144-Onondaga Star where she was Matron and also District Grand Matron.

After retirement both Grace and Rog loved to travel with their motorhome. In many trips around the county, they met and made many friends and had many fond memories. They were founding members of the Thousand Island Voyagers motorhome club. Grace was also a National Director to FMCA.

As an avid gardener, seamstress and quilter Grace was able to touch many with the beauty of her work.


Charles O'Connor Baird Sr.

Charles O'Connor Baird, Sr. 1618 Rose Avenue, died early Monday morning at a Knoxville hospital after a long illness. He was 64 years old.

He is survived by his widow, Nelle Jones Baird and two sons, Navy Lt. James Richard Baird and Army Lt. Charles O'Connor Baird, Jr., both of whom are on terminal leave.. Surviving also are two sisters, Miss Margaret Baird of Jellico and Mrs, John Todd Bradley of Pineville, and brothers, Roland P. Baird and Harry L. Baird of Cincinnati.

Mr. Baird was a native of Carrolton, Ky.

Both of Mr. Baird's sons had returned in recent weeks from the Pacific. Lt. Charles Baird Jr. was in the Phillippines with an engineering outfit. and Lt. James Baird, who is a former instructor at University of Tennessee, served as military governor for the Navy of the Island of Kusaie near Kwajalein in the South Pacific.

Charles O. Baird Jr., of Sewanee, Tennessee, died on Friday, April 4, 2008, at the age of 85 following a brief illness.

Dr. Baird was a professor of Forestry at the University of the South for 32 years during which time he helped develop the Natural Resources major, which has proven to be one of the strongest majors in the college. A native of Knoxville, he graduated from Knoxville High School and the University of Tennessee. Subsequently, Dr. Baird earned master and doctoral degrees from Yale and Duke Universities, respectively. During World War II, he served as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers in the Philippine Islands. Dr. Baird played tennis in his eighties and was an avid outdoorsman. He was an Eagle Scout and strongly believed in the values it represented.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Fitzwater Baird; a son, Charles Bruce Baird and wife, Sandy; two daughters, Elizabeth Thoni and husband, Joe and Julia Denegre and husband, Stan; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Otey Memorial Church in Sewanee, with burial following in the University Cemetery.

Marion Shoun died Sept. 30, 2000, at the age of 88. She was born in Kingston, Penn., on January 21, 1912.

Marion graduated from Penn State University, with a bachelors degree in education and a masters degree in library science. She married in 1935 and moved to Tucson with her husband, Dr. Alexander N. Shoun, in 1939. She worked with her husband until his death in1958. She lived in Benson from 1939 to 1945, where her husband was the only physician in Benson during WWII.

Marion was the loving mother of two. She was preceded in death by Phillip Nathan Shoun, who was born Oct. 22, 1947, and died Nov. 3, 1994.

She is survived by and will be missed by her daughter, Diana Shoun Collins and her husband Robert Collins, seven grandchildren, two great-grandsons, and many friends.
