November 19, 2001Funeral services for Dortha N. Reid, 90, -formerly of Arcadia, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Arcadia, the Rev. David A. Bliss officiating. Burial will be in Arcadia Cemetery.
Mrs. Reid died at 7:20 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2001, at Winebrenner Care Center, Findlay.
She was born Dec. 29, 1910, in Arcadia to John J. and Nettie (Brookman) Snyder. She married Robert B. Reid on June 19, 1935, and he died July 5, 1986.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Wilbur (Carol) Altman, Reno, Nev.; Mrs. Alfred (Pat) Braaksma, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; and Joan Steers, Fort Wayne, Ind.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Snyder, Fostoria; and two sisters, Margaret Rhoten, Arcadia; and Wilma Park, Ada.
She was preceded in death by a grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Mrs. Reid was a homemaker.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Arcadia, and Women of WELCA.

January 7, 2009Eugene P. "Gene" Reid, 94, of Sarasota, Fla. and formerly of Arcadia, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, in Sarasota.
Reid was born in Napoleon on March 13, 1914 to the late Bruce A. and Edith J. (Philpott) Reid. When tuberculosis cut short a career as a big-band musician, he opened the Arcadia SOHIO gas station at Main and Fremont in 1934. The station served as the community's social and business center until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of Lodge No. 288 Free and Accepted Masons, Fostoria; former president of the Arcadia Conservation Club; and former fire chief of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, where he served from 1935 to 1969.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruby K. Kulhman of Arcadia; stepson Robert Farrell of Bridgeport, W.Va.; and siblings, James Reid of Savannah, Ga.; Robert Reid, Arcadia; and Vivian Hill, Fostoria.
He is survived by his daughter, Thana Wise, Atlanta, Ga.; stepdaughter, Shirlee Farrell, Riverside, Calif.; grandsons, Andy Wise, Memphis, Tenn.; and Chad Wise, Atlanta, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Jordan Wise and Austin Wise, both of Memphis; and companion Eileen Ward, Sarasota, Fla.

June 10, 1999Frances Vivian Hill, 82, of 461 W. Lytle St., Fostoria, died at 8:12 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at Toledo Hospital.
She was born Oct. 23, 1916, in McClure to Bruce and Edith (Phillpot) Reid. She married Junior J. Hill in 1940, and he preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Tom and Bob, both of Fostoria; one daughter, Janet Holeman, Fostoria; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gene Reid, Arcadia.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jim and Bob Reid.
Mrs. Hill worked as an assembler at RCA Corp. (now Harris Corp.) for 27 years. She retired in 1982.
She was a member of Arcadia United Methodist Church, as well as the church chancel choir and the United Methodist Women. She was active with Meals on Wheels in Fostoria. She was a 1935 graduate of Arcadia High School.

February 19, 2011SAVANNAH - Mildred Mary Reinhart Reid, 92, of Savannah, passed away on February 17, 2011 under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Mildred was born in Alavda, Ohio, to the late Charles and Josephine Reinhart.
She was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. James Catholic Church of Savannah.
She was a lifelong member of Catholic Ladies of Columbia, Daughters of Ireland, St. James "Best of Friends" and Windsor Forest Senior Citizens.
Mildred was an avid bridge player, gardener and "the best grandmother in the world." Her warm smile and sweet laughter will never be forgotten.
She is not only preceded in death by her parents, but also her loving husband of 52 years James Edwin Reid, sisters, Genevieve St. Aubin and Joan Rose Reinhart, and brothers, Richard, Leonard, James, and Charles Reinhart.
She is survived by her daughters, Kristine Reid Anderson (John) of San Francisco, CA, and Pamela Reid Ehret (Wayne) of Savannah; grandchildren, Amanda (John) of Los Angeles, CA, Matthew (Maria) of Martinez, CA, Christian Ehret of Nashville, TN, and Ashley, Kimberly and Kelsey Ehret of Savannah; great-granddaughter, Maddie of Martinez, CA; sisters, Donna Schreiner of Fostoria, OH and Mary Davis (Chuck) of Toledo, OH; brothers, Marvin Reinhart (Natalie) of Fostoria, OH, and Ronald Reinhart (Carol) of Tiffin, OH.

Mrs. Hagen, 88, of Deshler, died Dec. 13, 2008.
In addition to her membership at the church, she formerly was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Deshler. She also was a past member of Patrick Henry Board of Education, the WELCA of the churches, and Wide Wake Club of Hamler.
Born Oct. 17, 1920 in McClure to Arthur and Jessie Margaret (Myers) Rayle, she married Raymond F. Hagen on Sept. 1, 1940, and he survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Kenneth, Lewis Center; David, Findlay; James, Perrysburg; and Bruce, Columbia Falls, Mont.; three daughters, Kathleen Militzer, Brighton, Mich.; Linda Gierke, Seward, Neb.; and Melissa Yarian, Perrysburg; two sisters, Janet Parthemore, Woodbury, Penn., and Carolyn Powell, Leipsic; a brother, Donald Rayle, of Troy; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Gierke, and brother, Warren Rayle.

Raymond F. Hagen, 94, of Deshler, Ohio died Sunday morning, February 28, 2010 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Perrysburg, Ohio.
He was born November 2, 1915 in Hamler, Ohio to the late Albert and Wilhelmina (Baden) Hagen.
On September 1, 1940 he married Florence I. Rayle and she preceded him in death on December 13, 2008.
Ray was a lifetime farmer. He was currently a member of St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Hamler, where he was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher; and previously a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Deshler. He was a member of the Henry County Soil & Water Conservation Board; Farm Bureau; Leipsic Fox Hunter Group; Nut Growers Association; and former Boy Scout Leader.

Donald G. Rayle, age 82, of Troy passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, OH.
Donald was born in Leipsic, Ohio on May 27, 1929; he was the son of the late Arthur and Jessie (Myers) Rayle.
He was also preceded in death by brother, Warren Rayle; sister, Florence (Ray) Hagen; and brother-in-law, Jack Parthemore.
Donald was a 1947 graduate of Hamler High School and went on to attend University of Findlay for 2 years and then received his Bachelor's degree at The Ohio State University in Electrical Engineering. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army after being drafted out of college. Donald retired from Hobart Brothers after 38 years of dedicated service. He was a very active member of First Lutheran Church, serving as church librarian.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Wanetta (Roeth) Rayle; daughters, Amy (Scott) Chapman and Ruth (Philip) Moore; grandson, Ethan Chapman; sisters, Carolyn (William) Powell and Janet Parthemore; sister-in-law, Ruth Rayle; and many nieces and nephews.

October 17, 2009Paul Warren Myers, 74, of Bowling Green, and most recently a resident at Otterbein- Portage Valley, died peacefully at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Thursday, October 15th, 2009.
Paul was born October 27, 1934 in McClure, Ohio, to the late Edith Mae Dauer and Warren Sharp Myers. He was married to Mary Alice Kepler on April 18, 1959 in Melbern, (West of Bryan) Ohio, and she preceded him in death on January 6, 1969.
He was also preceded in death by his only sister, Mary Ellen Wilburn on February 23, 2001.
Surviving are his son, Timothy L. (Cathy) Myers, Bowling Green; daughter, Joy L. Hobson, Bowling Green; grandchildren Theresa, Andrea and Emily Myers, at home, Jimmie Hobson Jr., Bowling Green, and Jennifer Hobson at home.
Paul was a graduate of McClure High School and an alumnus of Bowling Green State University, where he received his degree in Chemistry in the Liberal Arts College plus a degree in Education.
He began his teaching career with Westwood Schools as their Chemistry and Physics teacher. When Westwood consolidated with the Bowling Green School District he became BG's Pre-Algebra teacher, later switching to seventh grade math and finally retiring after 34 years of teaching as a ninth grade science teacher.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Bowling Green, for 50 years. He was also a former Assistant Cub Master of Pack 338, Basketball referee and poll worker for the Wood County Board of Elections.
Paul enjoyed his retirement by teaching computer courses at Wood County Senior Center, attending Black Swamp Players productions, where he was a Sponsor member, working picture and Suduko puzzles, and was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns.

September 10, 2016Robert Wagner, 83, of Napoleon passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016.
He was born to the late Jess and Corinne (Meyer) Wagner in McClure, Ohio.
Robert was born and lived in the same house his entire life. Robert served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. Robert owned and operated Wagner's Campground and Greenhouse. Robert loved boating and just watching them go by. He enjoyed polka dancing with his partner, Marilyn, as well as vacationing in Fort Myers, Florida.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Holly (Joe) Barrera of Napoleon, Ohio, and Robin (Bob) Goldstein of Keswich, Virginia; son, Tom (Tammy) Wagner of Luckey, Ohio; sisters, Joyce Sworden and Elizabeth Wolfe; grandchildren, Brittany, Chelsea, Andrea, Eli, Lexie, Cy and Raven.
Robert is preceded in death by his infant son, Todd, and sister, Shirley Kerwin.

Joyce was born on April 23, 1935 in Napoleon, Ohio to the late Jesse and Corinne (Myers) Wagner.
She married Ned Sworden in October of 1953 in McClure, Ohio and he preceded her in death on March 29, 2015.
Joyce is survived by her sons, Steve Sworden, of McClure, Ohio, Brett (Kathleen) Sworden, of Napoleon, Ohio, James Sworden, of Toledo, Ohio; daughters-in-law, Barbara and Linda Sworden; a sister, Betty Wolfe, of McClure, Ohio; grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Samantha, Jesse, Katie, Mitchell and Carly; a great-grandchild, Alexander; nieces, Holly Barrea, Robin Goldstein, Joan Kerwin; and a nephew, Tom Wagner.
Along with her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by a son, Rodney Sworden in 2011; a brother, Robert Wagner; and a sister, Shirley Kerwin.
Joyce was a graduate of McClure High School. After graduation she married the love of her life, Ned. Joyce not only enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children, but she was an essential part of the family farm. Joyce loved working in their greenhouse, growing all varieties of flowers and tending to the fresh produce they grew and sold at the Sworden Fresh Market Produce Stand. Joyce looked forward to chatting with customers who visited the produce stand where she developed many loyal friends and customers. Joyce never missed the Fred Arps garden segment on the local radio and was honored to be on the show discussing her flowers and produce. When not working on the farm, Joyce enjoyed visiting their family campgrounds along the Maumee River and taking care of the bookkeeping, conversing with the guests and developing long lasting friendships at Swordens Campground. Joyce also enjoyed her trips to Florida, especially Tiki Village. Joyce was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan and also a member of the Perrysburg Red Hats Society.

March 30, 2015Ned Sworden, 84, of Napoleon passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Northcrest Nursing Home.
Ned was born in Liberty Center, Ohio, to the late Jake and Katie (Kocher) Sworden. He married his loving wife, Joyce, Oct. 3, 1953, in Liberty Center, and she survives.
Ned is survived by his children, Steve Sworden of McClure, Brett (Kathleen) Sworden of Napoleon and James Sworden of Toledo; daughters-in-law, Barbara and Lin; grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Samantha, Jesse, Katie, Mitchell and Carly; great-grandchild, Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rodney Sworden; and sister, Jo Ann Harmon.
Ned graduated from Liberty Center High School in 1948. He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps for three years, and was a member of the McClure American Legion Post. Ned was a life-long farmer of vegetables, especially tomatoes, peppers and sweet corn. He served as a Damascus Township trustee for eight years. He was the RV Park Manager of the Sworden Campground in McClure.

She is survived by two daughters, Alice (Joseph) Avirett of Mobile and Jane (Terry) Ryan of Tyler, Texas; two sons, John (Peggy) Sargeant of Illinois and Paul Sargeant of Sandusky; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Wayne (Ruth) Knupke of Huron; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Glenn Sargeant in 1981; parents; and two brothers, Gene and Elmer Knupke.

August 30, 2009Robert Sargeant, 90, of Sandusky and formerly the Bellevue area died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, in Parkvue in Sandusky.
Mr. Sargeant was born June 16, 1919, in Monroeville, son of the late Clayton and Nellie (Kaufman) Sargeant. He was a farmer his entire life and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Ohio 99, Monroeville. He served three terms as a Groton Township Trustee.
On Oct. 23, 1943, he married Catherine Frey; she preceded him in death May 13, 2004.
He is survived by two sons, James (Judy) Sargeant, Westerville, Ohio, and Richard (Charlotte) Sargeant, Maumee; daughter, Judith (William) Miller, Sturgis, Mich.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

July 10, 2013Elnora H. Sargeant, 87, of Monroeville, passed away early Wednesday evening, July 10, 2013, in Providence Care Center, following a brief illness.
She was born June 15, 1926, in Sandusky, daughter of the late Theodore and Vera (LaFavre) Hill. Elnora was a 1944 Sandusky High School graduate. She was a 4-H advisor for more than 70 years and was inducted into the Ohio 4-H Hall of Fame.
She was a member of the Sandusky Choral Society, Erie County Farm Bureau, Extension Homemakers, Lutheran Memorial Auxiliary, and St. John's Lutheran Church where she was the music and choir director. Elnora enjoyed singing, gardening, sewing, and spending time with her family.
Elnora is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia (Bruce) Thayer, of Berlin Heights, Kathleen (James) Norris, of Centerburg, Ohio, and Carolyn (Kenneth) Wilson, of Byesville, Ohio; one son, Lowell (Susan) Sargeant, of Garland, Texas; eight grandchildren, Sharon (Michael) Baxter, Frank (Bettyann) Thayer, Matthew (Dawn) Thayer, Keith Norris, Marie (Travis) Kennedy, Leslie and Kristen Wilson , and Shelly (Kyle) Carpenter; 10 great-grandchildren; her sister, Rosemary Pugh, of Sandusky; several nieces, nephews and other family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clair E. Sargeant in 1997; her parents; and twin grandsons in infancy.

Mrs. Crockett died July 4 at age 95. She was born Aug. 11, 1899, in Stanberry, Mo. Her maiden name was Stockton.
After graduating from Hillsboro High School and the University of Oregon, she received a master's degree in library science from the University of Illinois.
Mrs. Crockett was a teacher and librarian. She retired in 1969 as associate professor of children's literature and head librarian of the laboratory school of Eastern Oregon State College.
Her husband, Dr. Earl Niles Crockett, died in 1953.
Mrs. Crockett was an Episcopalian.
Survivors are her daughters, Miriam J. Street of Portland and Patricia A. McCoy of Seattle; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Jim served with the 15th Air Force, 483rd Bomb Group (H), 815th Squadron, stationed near Foggia, Italy (Southern Italy) beginning in August, 1944 until March 1945, completing 35 combat missions. He was a 19 year old pilot of a B-17 bomber, becoming a Flight Commander with the rank of Captain and was twice awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was born in Redmond, Ore., educated in Portland schools and graduated from Oregon State
College in 1949, where he met and married his wife Mimi Crockett in 1948.
They had three children, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his family, Jim is survived by his five sisters; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a Special Agent in the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for 25 years, 1951 to 1976. He was then employed by Portland General Electric as their first Director of Corporate Security until 1990. While with PGE, he was a member of Rotary International, (Downtown Portland Club) and was on the startup board for the Portland Crime Commission. Jim was devoted to his wife of 70 years, Mimi; and to his family. He was generous and kind, tough and resilient, a hero to so many people who knew and loved him. He never lost the twinkle in his eye and he will be fiercely missed.

July 1, 2008Isobel (Mickey) Mudge was born on February 21, 1922, in Woodburn, and grew up in North Portland, where she attended Peninsula Grade School and Roosevelt High. She went to school at Oregon State College where she became a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She met and married Ross T. Mudge at Oregon State. They lived in Bremerton, Washington, during the World War II, while Ross worked for the Navy. After the war they moved to Portland - first to S.W. Luradel Street, and then to S.E. 31st, where they raised their family. In 1955 Ross was stricken with polio; Mickey cared for him at home until his death in 1977. Later, she enjoyed a number of years traveling to Europe and around the United States with friends. She was a member of Moreland Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, and enjoyed Sunday breakfasts with her 'No Grape Jelly' group. Most recently Mickey was at home at Friendship Health Center, overcoming breast cancer, while struggling with Alzheimer's Disease. She died on June 15.
She is survived by her daughters: Penny Carter (Phillip) of Portland, Marilyn Mudge (John Renzelman), Wayne, Nebraska, and son Tom (Kathy) of Milwaukie, Oregon. She had three grandchildren, Jenni Hutteball (Brian) of Oregon City, Deron Carter (Erin Chamberlain) of Corvallis, and Brett Carter, Portland.

March 20, 2007Robert H. "Bob" King, 90, of Bentonville died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Bradford House in Bentonville.
He was born April 5, 1916, in Pleasant Hill, Mo., to Robert and Annie Crockett King. He was a manager of several meat markets in Wichita, Kan., until World War II, when we went to work for The Boeing Co., retiring after 26 years of service. He was a member of Albert Pike Lodge #303 in Wichita, Kan., Scottish Rite, Midian Shrine Temple and York Rite Bodies. He founded the Nomad Shrine Club in Bentonville, organized the Greeters Association and attended Blue Lodge in Bentonville. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Bentonville.
Survivors include his wife, Esther King of the home; a son, Robert M. "Monty" King of Danville, Ky.; two daughters, Suzanne King-Versa and Sally King-Jones, both of Fairfield, Calif.; four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

January 21, 2017Esther A. King, 96, a native of Kansas, died Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, Ark.
She was predeceased by her father, Charles, L Monteith (1950); her mother, Ruth M McPherson Hunt (1995); her great-granddaughter, Lisa A Rains (1998) and her beloved husband, Robert H. King (2007).
Esther was a wonderful seamstress, cook, and homemaker. Her husband, Robert, and she entertained for many years. Both enjoyed participating in Shriner activities and volunteered a tremendous amount of years in activities devoted to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. She enjoyed plays and orchestras, good suspense movies, shopping, playing bridge and cribbage, boating, camping, and traveling throughout the United States with her family. She had lived in Byers and Wichita, Kan.; Grove, Okla.; Springfield, Pa.; San Diego, Calif.; Fayetteville, Bentonville and Rogers, Ark. She made friends everywhere she lived, but her two favorite places were Kansas and Arkansas where she lived the longest.
She is survived by her children: Robert M. King, Suzanne Verza (Roger), Sally A. King (Ralph E. Jones, III); four grandchildren: Robin A. Rains, Jennifer L. Boylan (Steve), Rose Nicole King, and Robert L. King (Kelly); and eight great-grandchildren: Chad Rains, Cassandra J. Rains, Todd Rains, Erica Rains, Stephanie R. Boylan, Andrew S. Boylan, Haleigh G. King, Parker Robert King; and, cousins in Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Kansas, Texas and Nebraska.
Esther had many friends in the local area; some moved and some now predecease her. July 11, 2003Wesley B. Horn, 89, of Marshall, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2003, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
On July 20, 1940, he married Lula Crockett, who survives of the home. H
e had been plant manager at Tranin Egg Company in Kansas City and retired from Kitchens of Sara Lee in 1980.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Margie McCoy of Lee's Summit, MO, Janet Diaz of Villa Park, IL, and May Willis of Gallatin, MO.
