January 23, 2004Joan L. Haskell, 74, St. Joseph, Mo., was called home with the Lord Jan. 17, 2004. Joan was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and good friend. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Born Nov. 30, 1929, in St. Joseph, she lived most of her life in California, moving back to St. Joseph three years ago.
Joan remained a full-time licensed beautician her entire life and was the owner-operator of Haskell's Prospector in California, where she leaves behind many loving friends. Her greatest accomplishment was her family, whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Malotte and Velma Shields; her husband, Robert; and her sister, Betty Evans.
Joan is survived by two daughters, Judy Jones of the home and Cecelia Zarate, Indiana; one son, Robert Butner, California; two grandsons, Jeremy Moore, and wife, Catherine, Bradford, England; and Robert Joseph Butner, Arizona; one granddaughter, Robyn Lynn Butner, Pennsylvania; four great-granddaughters, Bethany, Sophia, Rebecca and Olivia Moore, all of Bradford, England; one sister, Barbara Peasley, Kansas City, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.

March 14, 1996Hortense L. Rowe, 90, of Bonny Eagle Road, formerly of Hollis, died Wednesday at Mercy Hospital in Portland.
She was born in Hollis, a daughter of Alfonzo and Mamie Hearn Flint, graduated from Hollis High School in 1924 and attended Gray's Business School in Portland.
While growing up she worked in a Portland department store and later helped her father run the West Buxton Post Office. From 1942 to 1971, she helped her husband, Philip Rowe, run various businesses including Rowe's Garage of West Buxton, which delivered fuel oil, and later Rowe's Frozen Food, which included processing strawberries and blueberries and also included deliveries of cat and dog food throughout New England and Canada.
She enjoyed fishing, hunting and her camp on Moosehead, where she tied flies. She also enjoyed crocheting, rug hooking, oil painting and knitting.
Her husband died in 1971, and a daughter, Phyllis Levey, also died previously.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Norman (Beverly) Martin of Gorham and Genice Rowe Davis of Standish; two sisters, Glennis Hertzler of Augusta and Wilena Rankin of Buxton; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Private funeral services for Eugene C. Haskell, 93, will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. by Pierce Bros. Los Angeles Mortuary. Mr. Haskell retired in 1922 as general manager of the Union Hardware & Metal Co. He had been with the firm since 1886. He lived at 4110 Bluff Place, San Pedro, since his retirement. He died Friday. He leaves a daughter, Ruth, and a son, Eugene J.
