May 18, 2013BLUE HILL - Joseph H. "Red" Marshall, 91, died peacefully May 15, 2013, at his home. He was born Feb. 24, 1922, in Arlington, Mass., son of the late Alice Marshall.
Joseph was a decorated World War II war veteran who participated in the D-Day landing at Omaha Beach in 1944. He also fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and at St. Lo, and was in one of the first Army units to liberate Dachau concentration camp.
He married Myrtle Etta Pressey, daughter of the late Norman L. and Annie B. (Powers) Pressey in 1947. They lived in Lexington, Mass., until his retirement in 1983 when they came back to their home in Deer Isle. She passed away in 2001 after 51 years of marriage. He subsequently moved to Parker Ridge in 2008. He enjoyed meeting his friends, playing golf, and driving his car with the special "St. Lo" license plates to his favorite restaurants. He will be sadly missed by his friends.

July 23, 2008RUMNEY -- Chesley A. Goodwin, of Quincy Road, died July 21, 2008 at NH Veterans Home, Tilton, after several years of declining health.
He was born on Little Deer Isle, Maine, to Arthur and Lenora (Weed) Goodwin, where he spent his early years. He graduated from Deer Isle High School and was the pitcher for the Deer Isle High School baseball team for four years, taking the team to the Down East tournament.
He was an Army staff sergeant in the 331st Harbor Craft Squadron during World War II.
He worked as a conservation officer for New Hampshire Fish and Game, retiring in 1975 after 25 years of service.
He loved country music; playing, singing and entertaining for several years. He headed up his own country band -- The Rockingham Rangers. He thoroughly enjoyed hunting upland game birds as well as training his pointers and setters.
Family members include his wife of 45 years, Margaret "Peg" Goodwin of Rumney; two daughters, Carol Lyford of Plymouth and Deborah Badran of New York City, two stepsons, Chris Berg of Richmond and Deane Berg of Rumney; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

November 9, 1995LeRoy G. Shepard, 75, died Tuesday at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport after a long illness. He was born at Deer Isle, a son of Melvin L. and Myra D. Powers Shepard, was a graduate of McKinley High School in Deer Isle and of the University of Maine in mechanical engineering.
During World War II, Mr. Shepard worked at General Electric on jet engines. He and his brother Prentis were in the trucking business, sold Buicks in the 1950s for MacCloud Motors and started the Chevrolet dealership in 1957 at Stonington. He moved to Rockland in 1963 to expand into Chevrolet, Toyota and Pontiac, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Shepard was a member of Stonington and Rockland Methodist churches. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, traveled and was a member of the Rockland Auto Dealers. He was president of the Maine Auto Dealers Association, a member of the National Automobile Dealers Association 20 Group and at one time was designated Dealer of the Year. He also was a member of the Rockland Chamber of Commerce.
His first wife, Marion T. Shepard, died in 1985.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Hardy Shepard; two daughters, Linda S. Eaton of Stonington and Wendy S. Kinney of Warren; two stepsons, Stuart N. Ozier of Lakewood, Calif., and Brent Ozier of Norwalk, Calif; his brother of Rockland; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Winchendon, Massachusetts - Dorothy M. (Bell) Botti Hicks, 90, died Saturday, March 16, in Mariner Health Care Center, Fitchburg, MA, after an illness.
Her husband, Percy C. Hicks, died in 1992. Her first husband, Frank P. Botti, died in 1975. She leaves a son, Raymond F. Botti; a daughter, Janice C. Paquin, both of Winchendon; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was born in Malden, MA, September 18, 1905, daughter of Frederick Didier and Hattie Maude (Dow) Bell, and lived in Winchendon, Fitzwilliam, N.H., and Templeton, MA before returning to Winchendon 22 years ago.
She was a 1924 graduate of Athol High School. She and her first husband owned and operated the former Strawberry Acres Restaurant in Fitzwilliam, for many years. They then owned Gleason's Package Store in Templeton before their retirement. She was cafeteria manager at the Woodcock Elementary School for 12 years, many years ago. Mrs. Hicks was a member of United Parish Church, and was former secretary for 25 years of Lt. Frederick Wilder White Post VFW Auxiliary in Winchendon. She had been secretary of the Winchendon Tax-payers Association and of the Ipswich Drive Tenants Council, and was a member of the Stonington-Deer Isle (Maine) Historical Society. She enjoyed cooking and knitting. Dorothy was very proud of her heritage, being a direct descendant of Mark Haskell Sr. who settled in Deer Isle in 1770 and of William Haskell
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 19, in the Snow-Ladeau Funeral Home, Winchendon. The Rev. Daniel K. Martin, interim paster of the United Parish, officiated. The eulogy and words of remembrance were given by Isabelle V. Peterson.
Burial took place in Riverside Cemetery, Winchendon.

WINCHENDON - Louise D. (Bosworth) Botti, 77, of 315 Maple St., Winchendon, died peacefully Saturday morning, March 1, 2014, at her residence, with her loving family at her side.
A lifelong resident of Winchendon, Louise was born on March 14, 1936, the daughter of the late Louis C. and Doris M. (Topping) Bosworth.
In 1955, she graduated from Murdock High School.
Louise worked at National Seat Company in Winchendon for many years. She also had worked at Bard Medical in Fitzwilliam, N.H.
Louise enjoyed quilting and crafting with her sister Shirley and friends at the United Parish in Winchendon.
A former summer resident of Kennebunk, Maine, she enjoyed walking the beaches of Maine collecting seashells, driftwood and pieces of worn glass.
Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family and making special gifts for each of them for the holidays.
She leaves her husband of 57 years, Raymond F. Botti; her children, Anthony R. Botti and his wife Theresa of Charlotte, N.C., Brenda M. Botti of Winchendon, Lisa A. Drouin and her husband Michael of Noblesville, Ind., and Christopher B. Botti and his wife Simone of Davenport, Fla.; a sister, Harriet M. Williams of Ocala, Fla.; a brother Richard A. Bosworth of Winchendon; seven grandchildren, Danielle Richard, Amy Moury, Maria McCaffrey, Matthew Botti, Donald Cloutier III, Samantha Drouin and Abigail Drouin; and six great-grandchildren, Rebeckah, Tanner, Elise, Lindsey, Owen and John, as well as nephews and nieces.
She was predeaceased by twin sons, Wayne F. Botti and Warren L. Botti; a brother, Louis C. Bosworth Jr., and a sister, Shirley M. Tardiff.

WINCHENDON � Janice C. (Mailloux) Paquin, 87, of 111 Ipswich Drive, died peacefully Tuesday evening, October 6th in UMASS Memorial Hospital, Worcester. She was born in Malden, MA on January 3, 1928, daughter of the late Edgar O. and Dorothy (Bell) Mailloux and had lived in Winchendon for many years.
Janice was a self-employed artist and also worked for many years at the former Winchendon Hospital as a nurse's aide. Just before retirement, she worked at Rural Housing in Winchendon as a receptionist. She was a graduate of Springfield Trade School. Janice loved spending time with her family and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.
She leaves a daughter, Gretchen Paquin of Lewsiville, TX; a granddaughter, Stephanie Paquin; a great granddaughter, Autumn J. Paquin; a faithful companion, Star Paquin; a brother, Raymond Botti of Winchendon; and several nieces and nephews. A son, Erik E. Paquin, predeceased her.

September 20, 1999Eva V. "Belle" (Dame) Burns, 95, of 130 Colrain Road, died Saturday at a local nursing home. Born in Altona, N.Y., she attended local schools and was a resident here since 1919.
She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a member of the Greenfield Senior Center.
Her husband, Winfred C., died in 1982. She leaves two sons, Robert W. of the Turners Falls section of Montague and Howard A. of Westfield; two daughters, Phyllis B. Neff of Bernardston and Janet M. Bache of Bridgewater, N.H.; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

February 5, 2015TURNERS FALLS - Robert W. ""Buckshot"" Burns, 87, of Henry Ave. died Sunday1-25-15 at the Buckley Health Care Center in Greenfield.
He was born in Greenfield on September 28, 1927, the son of Winfred and Eva (Dame) Burns.
"Buckshot" attended the Greenfield Vocational School and was an US Army WWII veteran being honorably discharged in 1946.
He married the former Doris Welcome on Oct. 21, 1950 in St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Turners Falls. ""Buckshot"" operated heavy equipment and was a mechanic for over 30 years for the Town of Montague until his retirement; he also drove for Shanahan Fuel and worked for Charlie's Repair Shop.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, antique cars, motorcycles, ice-cold milk, football, baseball and dancing. He was a member of The Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #990 in Greenfield MA and a Turners Falls Fire Dept. volunteer firefighter for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Doris and their four children: Steven Burns and his wife Peg of Montague, Marilyn Burns and her fiancé Larry Cloutier of Northfield, Cheryl Rogers and her husband Bob of Cumming, GA and Kathleen Burns-Griffin and her husband Michael of Greenfield. Ten grandchildren: Marianne Burns-Muncy, Thomas Burns, Tracy Stasurak, Robyn Lisenby, Christopher Vlach, Jonathon Vlach, Robert Vlach, James Rogers, Sarah Pais and Jason Burns as well as 8 great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother Howard Burns of Westfield and two sisters, Phyllis Vincent of Bernardston and Janet Bache of Bristol NH, and several nieces and nephews.

July 28, 2011Robert Byers "Bob" Eaton died July 28, 2011, at the age of 95.
He was born May 13, 1916.
He served in the U.S. Navy for more than 25 years as a chief petty officer, retired and took up his second career working for Seattle City Light for 25 years. He retired again and began devoting his time to The Lake Sawyer Community Club, The Black Diamond Historical Society and The Association of King County Historical Organizations. He served as a volunteer King County Marine Patrol Officer and Boating Advisory Board member, Covington Water District commissioner, city of Black Diamond planning commissioner and Labor Day Festival Committee member and park patrol volunteer. He received numerous awards for his volunteer work and was named Citizen of the Year in Black Diamond.
He is survived by his wife of more than 70 years Emma Annie Eaton. They were married July 12, 1941. His children, grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren also survive him.

April 28, 2016Blanche M. Bea (Kowalski) Eaton, 93, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 following a period of declining health.
She was born in Lynn on October 25, 1922 [sic] the daughter of the late John Kowalski and Stasia (Marcizak) Kowalski.
Bea was the beloved and loving wife for 55 years of the late David Barker Eaton who died on December 19, 2004.
She is survived by her children; Margaret E. Keane and her husband Patrick J. Keane of Largo, FL, formerly of Natick, Barbara A. Walsh of North Andover, Nancy J. Eaton of Haverhill and David B. Eaton, Jr. of Leicester, formerly of Natick. Cherished grandmother of James Walsh; Corrine Walsh Lazzaro and her husband David Lazzaro and their children Mia Rose, Jack and Christy; Emily Keane Karlsson and her husband Cpt. John Karlsson and their children Clare and Jack; Timothy Kester and his wife Monica Kester; Kelly Kester and her children Dakota and Annabell. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Bea graduated from Brookline High School and has been a resident of Natick for over 67 years and recently has resided in Auburn. She loved knitting, sewing and bingo and was a member of the Circle Seven. She also enjoyed time with her friends at the Natick Senior Center. Bea was the Natick Registrar and spent countless hours over the years during all elections at the Natick polls. She was a longtime member and active in the affairs of the First Congregational Church of Natick. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who always enjoyed being with her family.
