Dan Norcross passed away at the home of his youngest son on Friday, August 12, 2011 surrounded by his family in Casper, Wyoming.

He was born October 27, 1922 in Arnold, Nebraska, the son of Roswell and Esther (Haskell) Norcross.

He grew up at Esterbrook, Wyoming near Laramie Peak where his parents had a homestead. He graduated from Glendo High School. He served his country in United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. While in training at Norman, Oklahoma, he met Patricia Maher, and they were married on April 10, 1946.

Dan established his family in Casper where he worked as a mechanic. He worked for Keith Thomas Motors. He was then employed at the Standard Oil Refinery for several years before being employed by NL McCullough.

Dan loved visiting with friends and enjoyed telling a good story. Puttering around his home, the yard, and the family cabin and fishing were his favorite pastimes. He loved feeding the "livestock," the birds. He was a member of the American Legion Post 2 and Holy Name Society. People say that he was a sweet man with a kind word for everyone. He had an incredible capacity for love right to the very end.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pat, son, Phillip and his wife Sue and grandchildren Keith, Caitlyn, and Wade of New Harbor, Maine, daughter, Susan and her husband Leland McDonald and grandchildren Clay and Kelly of Laramie, Wyoming, son, Chris Norcross of Copperas Cove, Texas and grandchildren Jennifer, Jeremy, Noah, and Caleb Norcross of Casper, son, Ross Norcross, daughter-in-law, Donna and grandchildren Shelby and Ryan of Fort Worth, Texas, daughter, Sarah and her husband, Brian Gates and grandchildren, Kimberly Gates of Surprise, Arizona, Andrea Guerra of Melbourne, Florida, Kaitlyn Gates and Adam Gates of Casper and son, Kevin and his wife Helen and grandchildren Adrionna, Bryce, Nicole, Cassidy, Anastacia, Joshua, Kristina, and Kade. He is also survived by grandchildren Tammy Hise, Eden Pitt, and Danny Denney, and great grandchildren Jaxson Warren, Kaylee McClure, Kainen, Kailah, and Eddie Guerra, and Hunter Pitt.

He was preceded in death by one son, Keith Vincent, and one daughter, Lisa Lea.

HASKELL, Riley K., Jr. Riley Haskell passed away at his residence in Willits, CA on February 2, 2009. Riley was born to Riley Kent Haskell and Alice (Johnson) Haskell on January 23, 1920 in Gandy, Nebraska.

He grew up a cowboy in his beloved Nebraska Sandhills, graduating from Logan County High School where he was one of five members of the Basketball team that went on to win the State Championship.

One of the happiest days of his life was when he married his wife, Peggy, on March 4, 1939. Peggy preceded him in death on January 10, 2002. Riley's sister, Gayle McGooden and brother, Don Haskell, also preceded him in death.

His brother, Bruce Haskell of North Platte, NE, survives him. He is also survived by his daughter, Judy Harvey and her husband, Hershel, of Los Banos, CA; his son, Riley ("Punch") Haskell and his wife, Jeanne, of Colusa, CA; and his daughter, Mary Haskell of Willits, CA; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Riley was a cattleman, working on such ranches as the Wyoming Hereford Ranch, and John Wayne's 26 Bar Ranch in Arizona before finding his way to California. He loved telling his stories about growing up in the Sandhills and the exploits of his great Uncle, "Cap" Haskell.

Riley will be taken back to Nebraska where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Peggy, at the Arnold Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the EVERSOLE MORTUARY.

Punch was born on October 22, 1941, to Riley K. and Peggy Haskell Jr. in Arnold, Nebraska. He peacefully passed away at Woodland Memorial Hospital on March 18, 2024, with his family by his side.

Punch grew up a cowboy and loved every minute of it. He graduated from Corona High School, Corona, California, and then attended one year of college at University of Arizona, before transferring to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA (Cal Poly) where he graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry. His time at Cal Poly was interrupted by a two year stint in the US army, which he served at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC.

After a time training horses on his own, he went to work for Duane Pettibone training horses and young riders winning major Open Shows including Cow Palace, California State Fair, and many others.

He was a past president of the Pacific Coast Quarter Horse Association.

In 1984, at the invitation from his brother-n-law, Gordon Wylie, he transitioned to farming rice.

Through hard work, love and dedication he was viewed as a respected figure in the agriculture community. He served on the Board of Directors for Farmers Rice Cooperative for 17 years, and also served on the California Rice Commission Board.

During this time he still had his horses and a small herd of cows to help satisfy the lifelong cowboy in him.

He was a member of Colusa Golf and Country Club, past member of Spyglass Country Club, Pebble Beach, CA, California Cattlemen's Association, Glenn Colusa Cattlemen, National Cutting Horse Association and National Reined Cow Horse Association.

He is survived by his wife, of 45 years, Jeanne Haskell; his son, Bruce (Heather) Montgomery; grandsons, Matthew (Jade) Montgomery; Jordan Brod, and Colt Montgomery; and great-grandson, Riley Boss Montgomery; his brother-n-law, Gordon Wylie (Karen); and nieces, Christine (Kevin) Lewis and Liz Mount; and nephews, Steve Stangland Lyle Harvey and Scott Harvey.

Punch joins his late parents, Riley K. Haskell Jr. and Peggy Haskell; as well as his sisters, Mary Haskell and Judy Harvey; and brother-n-law, Hershel Harvey.

R. Bruce Haskell, 92, of North Platte, passed away February 3, 2021 at Linden Court. He was born July 21, 1928 to Kent and Alice (Johnson) Haskell in Arnold, NE.

Bruce graduated from Stapleton High School with the class of 1946. He was active in sports, earning letters in football and basketball. Bruce graduated from University of Nebraska in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Journalism.

Bruce grew up on a sandhills ranch and spent the early years of life with livestock, his "First Love". After high school he went to Wyoming and was employed at Wyoming Hereford Ranch before starting college. After college he took a job with an agriculture chemical manufacturing company in the sales division. He was in that type of work for many years and worked in many different states in the Midwest.

Bruce was in the United States Army from 1951-1953 with one year of that being in Japan. His assignment was in the veterinary corp. He was a member of American Legion and VFW.

Survivors include two children, Brooke Meyer of McMinnville, OR, and Chad (Melissa) Haskell of Boise, ID; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Riley and Don; sister, Gayle (Bud) McGooden.


Dorothy Jean Sigman

Dorothy Jean Sigman Haskell, 85 of Boise Idaho, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2013.

Dorothy was born and raised in Stapleton, Nebraska. After graduating high school in Stapleton, Dorothy went on to attend Loretta Heights College in Denver, Colorado.

Upon returning to Nebraska she met and married Bruce Haskell in Stapleton on September 9, 1956. They adopted two children; a daughter, Brooke Meyer and a son, Chad Haskell. She has four grandchildren, Tesha Lawson, Teri Jo Adams, Brandon Meyer and Ciara Meyer as well as four great grandchildren. After many years in Nebraska, Dorothy moved on her own to Boise, Idaho, to fulfill a lifelong dream.

Dorothy embraced life. She worked many years as a secretary both in Nebraska and in Boise. She enjoyed doing volunteer work at the schools, hospitals and with the church. In her later years she shared her wit, humor and kindness with several local families as a nanny. She also liked spending time with her friends going to the flea market where she found all her beautiful treasures.

Marion L. Leu, 102, of Sutherland, passed away Sept. 24, 2012, at the Sutherland Care Center.

Marion was born on July 10, 1910, in Holdredge, to Fred and Bess Bliss Briggs.

At the age of 3, the family moved to Sutherland, where she attended grade school and three years of high school. She took her senior year at Denver East High School, where she graduated. She attended Denver University for two years and was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority.

On June 27, 1933, Marion married Arch Leu. They had two sons, Douglas and Gifford.

Marion was an excellent cook, seamstress and ranch wife. She was an original member of the Nebraska Cow Bells (Nebraska Cattlewomen) and remained a member until her death. She was nice to everyone and lived the Christian life. She was a lifelong member of the Sutherland Methodist Church.

Survivors include her son, Gifford, of Sutherland; sister, Henrietta; a niece and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick; son, Douglas; her parents; and her husband, Arch.

Henrietta B. Rees, 101, of Centennial, passed away June 15, 2017 at Someren Glen in Centennial, Colorado.

She was born July 6, 1915 in Sutherland, Nebraska, the daughter of Frederick and Bess Bouker (Bliss) Briggs.

She was a graduate of Sutherland High School in Sutherland, Nebraska. She then attended college in Denver for a year.

Henrietta was first married to John Donald Smith. He passed away in 1971. She was later married to Howard Rees. He also passed away.

Henrietta was a former member of the Red Hat Society. She was a volunteer at Aurora Medical Center - North in various areas. She also volunteered with the Colorado Republicans. While Henrietta worked at Arapahoe County Court, she would volunteer with various organizations associated with the court. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Henrietta's greatest interest was her family. Her hobby is baking, of which she was very proficient at making wonderful cookies and candies of various types for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by father, Frederick Felton Briggs; mother, Bess Bouker Briggs; sister, Marion Leu; brother, Frederick Briggs and nephew, Douglas Leu.

HAMILTON - Maxine Wright passed away May 8, 2007, in Hamilton.

She was born June 15, 1916, in Sioux City, Iowa, the fourth of five children born to Philip H. and Ethel S. (Briggs) Pilchard.

She spent most of her early years in Denver, Colo., and married Ralph Robert Wright, Jr. on Nov. 28, 1935.

They lived in New Mexico where their son, Robert Philip, was born and in Texas where their daughter, Monica Eloise, was born.

They moved to Helena in 1951 and lived there for 48 years. Maxine was an active member of St. Peters Episcopal Church and enjoyed working with Campfire Girls, Job's Daughters, and numerous civic activities. She loved the mountains and enjoyed many picnics and outings with family and friends. Max and Bob traveled throughout Canada and the U.S., sharing stories and photos of all their adventures. She was an excellent cook and homemaker, especially welcoming her children's friends into a loving home. Max and Bob moved to Hamilton in 1999.

Maxine was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles and Milton, and her sister, Phyllis Alexander.

She is survived by her brother, Elliott.

Bob and Max were married for 65 years before his passing on Oct.12, 2001.

Surviving are her son, Robert, and his wife, Marcia, of Roanoke, Va., and grandchildren Michel (Steve) Miller and Matthew (Laura) Wright; daughter Monica and her husband, Bill Goss, of Hamilton, and grandchildren Keith (Debbie), Scott (Thea) and Kevin (Laura) Goss and Susan (Brad) Nabholz. Also surviving are 11 great-grandchildren.

Bob Wright passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at the Discovery Care Centre in Hamilton.

Bob is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maxine Wright.

Bob was born to Ralph Robert Wright Sr. and Margaret Elizabeth Wright in Colorado Springs, Colo.

He attended public schools in Denver and the University of Colorado.

In 1935 he married Maxine Eloise Pilchard.

His career began with the Colorado Highway Department as a civil engineer and was followed by 10 years with the DuPont Company when he traveled throughout the intermountain region. In 1951 he moved his family to Helena, where he worked for 26 years with Mountain States Bell Telephone as a commercial development engineer.

Following retirement in 1997 he and Maxine traveled throughout the United States and Canada visiting friends and relatives. They made their home in Helena for 48 years prior to moving to the Discovery Care Centre in Hamilton.

Bob was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Morning Star Masonic Lodge and the Scottish Rite. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include his loving wife, Maxine; a son Robert Philip and his wife Marcia from Roanoke, Va., and a daughter Monica Eloise Goss and her husband Bill of Hamilton. He has six grandchildren, Keith Goss, Scott Goss, Susan Nobholz, Kevin Goss, Matthew Wright and Michel Nussbaum and eight great- grandchildren.

Eileen Janice Larson Henry November 23, 1927 - April 5, 2016

Eileen Janice Larson Henry, 88, of Caldwell, passed away on April 5, 2016.

She was born on November 23, 1927, in Castana, Iowa, to Floy Lella York and Charlie Larson.

She was raised on a farm with her four brothers and sisters and went to a one-room schoolhouse through 8th grade. She graduated from Castana High School in 1945, where she was the valedictorian. She continued her education at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, where she went to nursing school and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1948. While she was at Morningside College, she met a young man named Boyd Henry.

Eileen and Boyd were married on August 30, 1948. They were the first couple to be married in the small church at Ticonic, Iowa.

Eileen and Boyd moved to Fairfield, Iowa, where Eileen was the school nurse and Boyd taught math at Parsons College.

While they were in Fairfield, they had their first three children, Lois Eileen, Douglas Boyd and Ruth Elaine.

They moved to West Des Moines, Iowa, in 1955, and then to Caldwell, Idaho, in 1957, where Boyd taught math at The College of Idaho.

They had two more children, Carol Marie and Beth Ellen.

Eileen worked as a full-time homemaker. She was involved in her children's activities as a Girl Scout Leader and Sunday School teacher. She was a very active participant in the United Methodist Church and in 2005 received the Best Everyday United Methodist Award. She was an avid quilter and won several awards, including "Best of Show". She loved growing plants, and had a truly green thumb. Plants thrived and multiplied under her care. Most of all, Eileen enjoyed being with her family. Many of her grandchildren were fortunate enough to be able to spend their day or after-school time with Grandma Henry.

Eileen is survived by her five children, Lois Buck of Emmett, ID; Doug Henry of Walla Walla, WA; Ruth and Wes Whitley of Greenleaf, ID; Carol and Dan Beaubien of Ontario, OR; Beth and Bill O'Meara of Greenleaf, ID; two sisters, Evelyn and John St. Peter of Sioux City, Iowa, and Melva Wanamaker of Onawa, Iowa; sister-in-law Barbara Larson of Castana, Iowa; brother Melvin and Joyce Larson of Upsala, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Gordon and Audrey Henry of Newberry, South Carolina; 16 grandchildren and their spouses, 19 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Boyd; her brother, Darrell Larson; and her granddaughter, Heidi O'Meara.

NEWBERRY   Gordon C. Henry of Newberry died November 12 at the Hospice House of the Piedmont in Greenwood after a short illness.

He was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on July 29, 1931, a son of the late Herbert and Edith Briggs Henry.

He attended Sioux City schools and received his B.A. in speech and history in 1953 from Iowa State Teachers College.Following his military service in the U.S. Navy, he taught in Iowa high schools.

He married Audrey Fae Roorda on August 9, 1957.

After receiving his master's degree in journalism from the University of Iowa in 1960, he worked with Western Electric Co., Cicero, Illinois (1960-67), and Fort Hays Kansas State College (1967-69).
He accepted a position with Newberry College in 1969 and was employed at the College from 1969 through 2011, filling a number of positions during his tenure. He served as Director of Public Relations, Assistant Professor of Communications, Sports Information Director and Associate Vice President of Institutional Research. In 1996, Gordon retired as Professor of Communications, Emeritus, but he remained on the college staff until 2011 on a part-time basis as the college's archivist.

He chaired the 150th Anniversary celebration of Newberry College (2006-07). For the Anniversary, he wrote a book titled "God Bless Newberry College," an updated history of the college from its beginnings.

He received the Honorary Doctor of Letters Degree in 2006 and was honored as the Newberry College Outstanding Non-Alumnus in 2007.

Gordon was an active member of the Newberry Rotary Club (1969-present) and served as the club's treasurer from 1996 to 2017. He was the recipient of the Rotarian of the Year award in 2000 and the Service above Self award in 2018. He has also been a member of the Newberry County Historical and Museum Society, serving as president 2004-06 and as treasurer from 2010-13. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Newberry. He had a great interest in history and politics and owned a huge collection of biographies of all the presidents. He enjoyed attending plays and musical productions, and he and his wife were members of several local and regional theaters.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Audrey Fae Henry; children, Laurie J. Henry of Cincinnati, Ohio and Karl S. Henry of Indianapolis, Ind.; grandchildren, Eric Drury and Rebecca Drury, both of Cincinnati; a sister-in-law, Beulah Zoutendam, of Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Boyd Herbert Henry.

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. -- Virginia Davis Newton, a resident of Alterra Clare Bridge in Niskayuna, died on Monday evening, June 14, 2004 at the Glendale Nursing Home following a long illness.

She was born in Boise, Idaho on Aug. 3, 1918, and was the daughter of George and Daisy (Young) Davis.

She received her education in the local schools and holds a bachelor's degree from Tufts University. For several years she was employed as a social worker at Northwestern University Medical Center in Chicago.

She married Donald Newton in Port-A-Prince, Trinidad on Nov. 5, 1941.

They had celebrated 61 years of marriage before Mr. Newton died in 2002.

While residing in the Chicago area, she had been very active in her community as a volunteer for the Field Museum of Natural History, the North Shore Association for Retarded Citizens, the Sheridan Shore Yacht Club and the League of Women Voters. Her interests included playing bridge and scrabble. She enjoyed listening to music, traveling and reading.

Mrs. Newton is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Joyce Newton of Niskayuna; her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Robert Haspray of Montgomery Center, Vt.; her daughter and companion Margaret Newton and David Nurney, of Seattle, Wash.; and her daughter Betty Jean Newton of Rolling Meadows, Ill. Mrs. Newton has seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. There is one sister, Elizabeth Syrus of Gardner, Maine.

Mrs. Newton is predeceased by two brothers, George and Robert Davis.

NISKAYUNA, N.Y. - Donald Newton, 85, a former resident of Wilmette, Ill., died Dec. 25, 2002, at Northwoods Rehabilitation in Niskayuna.

He was born Feb. 28, 1917, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Edmund and Ruth (Buffett) Newton.

He attended schools in Margaretville and Jamaica, N.Y., and graduated with a bachelor's degree from Tufts University and a master's degree from Rutgers University.

He married Virginia Davis on Nov. 5, 1941, in Trinidad.

Mr. Newton was a partner in the Chicago engineering firm of Greeley and Hansen for many years until the time of his retirement. He was a member of the Sheridan Shores Yacht Club in Wilmette, Ill. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying sailing, golf, skiing and spending time at his camp in Maine.

Survivors include his wife of Niskayuna; three daughters, Carolyn Haspray of Montgomery Center, Margaret Newton of Seattle, Wash., and Betty Newton of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; a son, David Newton of Niskayuna; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a sister, Peggy Martin of Louisville, Ky.; two brothers, Richard Newton and Edward Newton, both of Reading, Pa.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Douglas Newton.

Parker E. Haskell, 38, died recently at his home.Endicott street, The Wiers, N.H., following a heart attack.

An iron worker by trade, he was born in Stillwater, Jan. 22, 1911, son of the late Charles H. Haskell and Mrs Anna (Davis) Haskell, and had resided ib the Qiers for several years.

Surviving relatives are his wife, Mrs. Audrey J. Haskell, a son Edward Parler, two daughters, Shirlry A. and Clair A.; his mother Mrs. Anna M. Dudley of Rixbury, Mass.; a nephew, Charles Mayhew of Old Town; two aunts, Mrs. Gladys Leeman of Brewer ans Miss Amy Haskell; two brothers, Donald of Bangor and Derward of Oakland; and several nieces and nephews.
