72932. Marie Frances Teresa Robbins

Find-a-Grave

Marie Frances Teresa (Robbins) Girard passed from this life to her heavenly home at Blackstone Valley Healthcare in Whitinsville, MA, on April 23, 2022, with her husband of 72 years, Normand Girard by her side, just one week shy of her 94th birthday.

A lifelong resident of Blackstone, MA, she was the daughter of the late Earl E. and Madeline Dorrington Robbins.

In addition to her beloved husband, she leaves four children, ten grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, three siblings and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Marie was pre-deceased by her infant son, Normand, who died at birth. Also pre-deceasing her were her siblings Earl E. Robbins, James W. Robbins, Barbara A. Gautreau and Beatrice A. Robbins.

Marie was a devout, lifelong member of St. Paul's Church in Blackstone, and was educated at St. Paul's School, Blackstone High School and the former Hill College in Woonsocket, RI. She was a bookkeeper for P & Q Men's Clothing Store in Woonsocket and spent many years travelling for the parent company in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island training and breaking-in managers and bookkeepers for their various stores. She worked for the company until the Woonsocket store closed, then assumed an office position for McCarthy's until they closed. She was a master in mathematics, solving the most difficult problems in her head faster than most can on calculators and computers.

She was a very outgoing woman who made friends wherever she went, and once a friend of Marie's you were a friend for life. Long after McCarthy's closed, she and her "Soclumac" friends continued to meet monthly for dinner and socialization. She added hundreds of "friends" through Facebook and continued to post chats with them until very recently.

Marie's favorite pastime, though, was time spent with her growing, extended family. She revelled in their accomplishments and milestones. Marie and Norm centered their family and were always there for them. Their kitchen door was always open not only for their kids, but all the neighborhood kids as well, who knew that "Mrs. G" had not only an open door, but also an open ear, an open heart, and open arms for all of them.

A third family supported Bea: the staff of Alternatives Unlimited Day Program, under the devoted supervision of Remke Remmelts, assisted by Dawn Thiebault and Cheryl Belleville, filled her days with joy and happiness and meaning at the Whitinsville and Hopedale facilities. Through many years of severe disabilities, Bea remained an active participant in many community activities. She was a loving and beloved woman who always won over everyone she met with her beautiful blue eyes, her contagious smile and her ability to melt even a strangers heart. She was a happy, outgoing individual whose most cherished moments were when she had a hand to hold, a magazine to read, a puzzle to make, or an animal to pet and cuddle. She loved her Red Sox and Patriots, and a good lobster dinner, especially when it was fresh from the ocean in Maine where she enjoyed many vacations. Beas family will be forever grateful to the wonderful friends at HMEA and Alternatives Unlimited who brought such happiness and adventure to her life.
