Donald was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Fresno. He lived in Modesto from 1947 to 1965 and Fallon from 1965 to 2004. He owned Don's Appliance Service in Modesto for 38 years. His hobbies were golfing and gardening. He was a member of Smyrna Lodge No. 532 F.&A.M. in Ceres, Calif., the Stockton Scottish Rite, and Almeleka Shrine in Los Angeles. He was also a World War II Navy veteran, serving from 1940 to 1945.
Donald is survived by his daughters, Lorraine Phillips of San Luis Obispo and Renee Cook of Paso Robles; brother, Harry Torongo of Fresno; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wanda Lorraine Torongo, in 1995.

Marie L. Haskell, 98, of Stockton died Thursday at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Mrs. Haskell was a native of Browns Flat. She lived in Stockton and previously had lived in Modesto. She was a linen supply attendant at San Joaquin General Hospital in French Camp for 17 years. She was a descendant of the pioneer Pedro Family of Tuolumne County. She belonged to the Patterson Garden Club and the San Joaquin County Employees Association.
She is survived by her children, Beverly Hammon of Patterson and Betty Ann Gallo of Stockton; and two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

PATTERSON � A car-truck collision Wednesday claimed the lives of two longtime Patterson residents, Edward and Beverly Hammon.
On the Saturday before the accident, the local Preceptor Xi Phi Sorority had honored Beverly Hammon, 81, as "First Lady of the Year" for her many years of volunteer activity.
Edward Hammon, 85, was a World War II Army veteran. For 35 years, he managed the Wells Fargo Bank branch in Patterson.The crash occurred at 3:19 p.m. at the corner of Olive and Sycamore avenues. The Hammons were driving east on Olive and had stopped their Chrysler PT Cruiser at a stop sign, the California Highway Patrol reported. An orchard grows on the corner to the left of an eastbound driver. As they pulled into the intersection, a truck, headed south on Sycamore at about 45 miles an hour, veered left in an attempt to avoid hitting their car, the CHP reported. There is no stop sign on Sycamore. The truck, owned by Crows Landing tallow company Darling International, struck the left side of the PT Cruiser. The truck driver, Lorenzo Rico, 31, of Chowchilla, was not injured, the CHP reported.
Edward Gerald Hammon was born Sept. 19, 1919, in Ontario and moved to Patterson as a teenager. He was a 1938 graduate of Patterson High School.
Beverly Frances Haskell Hammon was born March 30, 1924, in Modesto. She was a 1941 graduate of Stockton High School, and had attended Stockton Junior College and Stockton's College of the Pacific. In 1950, she married Edward Hammon and moved to Patterson, where she was a homemaker.
Both were active in community organizations. Edward Hammon served 12 years as a member of Del Puerto Hospital's board of directors, and was a past member of Patterson's Rotary Club and Lions Club. Beverly Hammon was one of the founders of Patterson's Patty Cake Children's Home Society Club, and a founding member of Del Puerto Hospital's Auxiliary Board. She served several terms as president of Patterson's Garden Club. Edward and Beverly Hammon were both members of the Patterson Senior Citizens' Club, and worked to help the club get its own building.
Edward and Beverly Hammon are survived by their children, Janelle McGuire of Patterson and Bret Hammon of Morgan Hill; and six grandchildren. Mrs. Hammon is also survived by her sister, Betty Gallo of Stockton.

Betty Ann Gallo, 86 of Stockton passed away Thursday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Stockton.
Mrs. Gallo was born in Los Banos and was a resident of Stockton for 80 years. She was a Secretary at Stockton College for many years and a Homemaker for 54 years.
Mrs. Gallo is survived by her husband of 54 years, Harry F. Gallo of Stockton; niece, Janelle McGuire, her husband Jerry and their family of Patterson; nephew, Brett Hammon and family of Morgan Hill.

Mrs. Haskell was a native of Stockton and had lived in Manteca since 1980. She was a secretary and executive secretary for 40 years, mostly for Kooyman Trucking. She enjoyed gardening and birds.

December 2, 1949Funeral services were held recently in Ilion, N.Y., for Richard M. Haskell, 73, of that city. Mr. Haskell was retired in 1941 as head machinist of the Evening Express composing room after having worked more than 45 years on local newspapers. Interment was in St. Agnes Cemetery, Ilion. Mr. Haskell served his apprenticeship with the former Daily Eastern Argus, and was associated for a time with the Lanston Monotype Machine Company before returning to the newspapers here. He was a member of the Masons and the Portland Typographical Union.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Dora Sullivan Haskell of Ilion, he is survived by a son Philip Haskell, Ilion; a sister, Miss Luella Haskell, Portland, and a brother, Dr. Robert Haskell, Detroit.

August 28, 1991Howard school official Thomas Walter Pyles, retired assistant superintendent for ,X administration and finance of the Howard County schools, died Aug. 11 of cancer at a hospital in Winchester, Va.
Dr. Pyles, who was 74 and had lived in Winchester since 1982, retired in 1974 after serving the Howard County schools since 1968. Earlier, he had worked for the state Department of Education, supervising high schools and heading a group of federal and state school programs.
He joined the state agency in 1959, after starting his career in 1937 as a teacher in Montgomery County, where he also served as vice principal of the Montgomery Blair High School and principal of the Poolesville Elementary School.
He served as an officer in the Navy during World War II.
Born in Poolesville, he was a graduate of Western Maryland College and held a master's degree from Columbia University and a doctorate from the University of Maryland.
He was a member of the Winchester Rotary Club and the Maryland Retired Teachers Association.His first wife, the former Beatrice Howard, died in 1978.

December 30, 2009Antoinette Wade Marsh Haskell, 95, of Martinsville, an officer of the Martinsville Bulletin, died Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2009, at Stanleytown Health and Rehab Center.
She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1914 to Leona Marsh and Charles Edward Marsh, a Texas oil and newspaper man. She was reared in Austin, Texas, where her father was editor and publisher of the Austin American Statesman and other newspapers.
She attended the University of Texas for her freshman year and then transferred to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., where she graduated in 1936. She then lived in Orlando and Miami in Florida. During World War II she lived in Manhattan in New York City, where she worked as assistant purchasing agent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Her husband, Robert H. Haskell, served with the Navy in the Pacific during World War II, and in 1947 the couple moved to Martinsville where he was publisher of the Martinsville Bulletin. He died in 1971.
In addition to serving as an officer of the Bulletin, Antoinette Haskell served as a director of the Public Welfare Foundation until 2008. The foundation was begun in 1947 by her father.
She had two sons, Robert H. Haskell of Martinsville and the late Charles T. Haskell; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
