Gloucester �  Sarah Holmes Turner, age 91, wife of Edward L. Turner of East Gloucester, died peacefully on March 3, 2013.

Sarah was born in Gloucester, on December 17, 1921. She was the daughter of the late, Lester and Catherine Holmes; sister of the late, James (Rocky) Holmes, Elizabeth Howard and George Holmes.

Sarah graduated from Gloucester High School in 1939 and was a charter member of the National Honor Society. She worked as an operator for New England Telephone. A life-long resident of Gloucester, she devoted herself to her family. She enjoyed Good Harbor Beach and Newfound Lake. Ed and Sarah spent many winters in Sun City, Fla. She loved art and shopping for antiques and hat pins. Sarah and Ed travel extensively and especially enjoyed cruises. Sarah encouraged children to read, work hard in school and follow their dreams.

Sarah is survived by Edward L. Turner, her devoted husband of 67 years and her children and their families, Rosalyn Ideus and husband, Robert of Houston, Texas, Patricia Gomez and husband, Odillo of Cooper City, Fla.; granddaughters, Marisa Gomez and Elizabeth Gomez, SarahJane Elsinger wife of George of Washington Crossing, Pa.; step-grandchildren, Deborah Elsinger and husband, Fred of Shrewsbury, N.J., Dr. Richard Elsinger of Coltsneck, N.J., Karen Pease of Whiting, N.J.; step-great granddaughters, Jaclyn, Samantha and Taylor, Barbara Romano and husband, Albert of Jackson, N.J., Robert Elsinger and wife, Lisa of Manalapan, N.J.; step-great grandsons, Steven, Kenneth Elsinger and wife, Lisa of Millstone, N.J.; granddaughter, Megan Linehan of Southborough, and Edward Turner of Washington, D.C. Sarah is also survived by her cousin, Nancy Holmes; many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Jeanne Linehan of Gloucester, and by her grandson, Keith Cruzan.

Gloucester �  Ernestine (Parks) Holmes, 85, died peacefully on Sunday, January 12, 2014. She was the wife of the late Edward W. Holmes, who died in 2005.

Born in Gloucester on January 31, 1928, she was a lifelong resident of Gloucester. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for many years. She enjoyed walks on Cressey's Beach and times on the Boulevard. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and many dear friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Woodman and Tom Shea of Ipswich; her son, George Holmes of Gloucester; two granddaughters, Tara Patrican and her husband, Brian, and Whitney St. John and her husband, Jarret; four great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Avery Patrican, and Eva and Audrey St. John; a sister-in-law, Nancy Holmes of Gloucester; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her twin sister, Charlotte Pierson; and her former son-in-law, Lawrence D. Woodman Jr.

Quincy -  Samuel P. James (Ret. Lt. QFD), passed away at Liberty Commons Skilled Nursing & Rehab. Center, Chatham on Friday, July 25. Born in Boston, Lt. James grew up in Dorchester and lived in Quincy for many years before his move to Chatham 35 years ago. He retired from his position as Fire Lieutenant for the Quincy Fire Dept. in 1979 after a 30 year employment. Mr. James was a WW II Navy veteran. He was a former employee of the Plymouth Brockton Bus Line, Chatham

The beloved husband of Margaret A. (Linehan) James of Chatham, he is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Lillian Dorne.


72585. Robert Milton Peterson Jr.

Robert Milton "Pete" Peterson, of Denver, Colo. and Palm Springs, Calif., formerly of Westport, died Sunday, Nov. 7 in Boulder, Colo. of heart disease. He was 74.

He was born Aug. 10, 1930, in Beverly, Mass. and spent his childhood in Glen Rock, N.J.

Mr. Peterson was a devoted husband to his wife, Eloise, with whom he spent 23 years. He was also a loving father to his children, Eric Peterson of Waldorf, Md., Carole Brodey of Milford and Mark Peterson of Newtown; and to his step-children, Kristin Semmelmeyer of Cambridge, Mass., Erik Semmelmeyer of Upper Montclair, N.J. and Jana and Tom Ward of Boulder, Colo. He adored and was adored by his 12 grandchildren. He also loved and is survived by his sister, Sally Bower, of Torrance, Calif.

He was a warm and generous person with an easy smile and a great sense of humor. He was also a feisty redhead who pulled no punches.

Mr. Peterson was an avid golfer and fisherman, and had a passion for collecting old baseball cards. He was a voracious reader and closely followed current events. He particularly enjoyed reading about politics and history. He loved cats, especially his cat, Timothy.

He graduated from Rutgers University in 1952, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1956. During the Korean War, he served as a lieutenant on the USS Salerno Bay as gunnery officer, and on the USS Blackbird as operations officer. He was very proud of his service to this country.

Mr. Peterson worked as a sales rep and supervisor for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals from 1957 to 1967. He was the senior vice president of investor relations for Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City, a financial analyst at Scudder, Stevens & Clark in New York, and director of investor relations for Richardson Merrill in Wilton.

He and Eloise moved to Denver, Colo. in 1989 when Mr. Peterson joined Hanifin-Imhof there as a securities analyst. He retired in 1996.
