February 6, 2011Former Resident of Hayward, James Nate Thornton, born Jan. 14, 1915 in Utah died Jan. 2, 2011 in Rohnert Park, CA.
Nate was one of the last members of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, who went to Spain in 1937 to defend the legally elected government of Spain against the fascist army of Francisco Franco.
Nate was a staunch union man, a member of Carpenter's Union local 713 and local 34 of the I.L.W.U. (ships clerk). He was also a member of the Fort Point Gang, the School of the Americas Watch, and the men's auxiliary of Grandmothers for Peace, an avowed atheist, a supporter of recognition for Cuba and against NAFTA and GATT and CAFTA.
He is survived by his wife, Corine, son, Loren and step-daughter Joan.
He was predeceased by wife, Phyllis and daughter, Leslie.

November 15, 2011Harry Alma Thayne, age 92, of Talmage, was peacefully called home on November 9, 2011 in Big Piney, Wyoming, while visiting his daughter.
He was the first born son of Alma and Jainie Myrtle Ide Thayne. Born April 24, 1919 in Mountain Home. His boyhood days were spent taking care of the family farm, fishing, exploring.
At age 19 he married the love of his life, Carrie Taylor of Arcadia on October 15, 1938. They were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple on August 3, 1940.
Together they raised a family of 6 daughters, 4 sons and later 4 granddaughters.
Harry was known for his inventive mind and his great work ethic. His life was mostly spent providing for his family and endless hours serving in the Boy Scout program as a scout master. Harry and Carrie sent 3 sons on missions and later served together in the Alberta Canada Mission, where they were instrumental in bringing the gospel of Jesus Christ to many people. They were married for over 60 years before Carrie's death in 2003.
He resided at the home of his eldest son and daughter-in-law who cared for him for eight years. He was an honest, hardworking, loving husband, father, friend and neighbor. His favorite hobby was gardening. He grew and loved sharing his harvest with everyone. His example of faith, strength, and care for his family will live forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Harry is survived by his brother Ferrin Thayne of Quartzite, Arizona; sister, Geneal Larsen, Salt Lake City; 4 sons, Taylor (Gail) Thayne, Talmage; Guy (Joyce) Thayne, Mountain Home; Johny (Debbie) Thayne, Altonah; Jimmy (Holly) Thayne, Pinedale, WY; son-in-law, Bob (Carrie) Fausett, Talmage; 3 daughters, Kathlyn Brotherson, Boneta; Diane (Dan) Alexander; Ellen (Ed) Lewis, both of Big Piney, WY, 43 grandchildren, 117 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, 4 sisters-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carrie Taylor Thayne, sister, Sarah Neilson, brother Daniel Oliver, 3 daughters, Sheila Sawyer, Gwendolyn Thayne, and Gayle Fausett, numerous grandchildren & great-grandchildren, 2 sons-in-law, 11 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law.

February 18, 1998Thomas Larsen, age 81, passed away on February 16, 1998, in West Jordan.
Thomas was born on July 14, 1916 in Ioka, Utah. He served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II in the European Theater. Since that time, he worked as a farmer living off his land, raising crops, training horses, and doing the things he liked. He loved horse pulling and was an avid Jazz fan.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Geniel of West Jordan; children, Mark D. (Marie), of West Jordan; and Phillis, of San Diego, CA.; sisters, Lucille, of West Valley City; and Arsula, of Bluebell; brothers, Clyde, of Price; and Spencer, of Magna; and grandchildren, Adrienne and Allison, of San Diego.

April 9, 2014BRIGHAM CITY - Ferron Monroe Thayne, 88, passed away peacefully Monday, April 7, 2014 at his home in Maple Spring.
Ferron was born on November 3, 1925 in Mountain Home, Utah a son of Myrtle Ide and Alma Thayne.
He served in World War II in the Navy.
Ferron married his sweetheart Rita Noreen Black on May 9, 1947 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 63 years, Noreen passed August 8, 2010. Ferron and Noreen made their home in Deweyville where Ferron worked for Thiokol for 32 years. After retirement they moved to Brigham City and spent all their winters as snowbirds in Quartzite, AZ.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he had served in various callings including ward Executive Secretary, Elders Quorum Presidency, Home Teacher and in the Sunday School Presidency.
Ferron enjoyed Camping, hunting, fishing, spending time helping others and being with his family.
Surviving are his children: Gary Lynn (Kathy) Mitchell, Roberts, ID; Sue (Alan) Perry, Logan, UT; Sandra (Howard) Andreason, Custer, WA; Robert (Jan) Thayne, Deweyville, UT; ten grand- children, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Noreen, his brother Harry and his sister Sarah.

Noreen married Ferron Monroe Thayne on May 9, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She was a member of the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she had served as Relief Society Secretary, Visiting Teacher and in the Primary. Noreen enjoyed being with her family, traveling with her husband and living in Quartzsite, AZ in the winter.
Surviving are her husband: Ferron M. Thayne, Brigham City; children: Gary Lynn (Kathy) Mitchell, Roberts, ID; Sue (Alan) Perry, Logan, Utah; Sandra (Howard) Andreason, Custer, WA; Robert (Jan) Thayne, Deweyville, UT; 15 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

January 18, 2020Lanora Jensen, a longtime resident of Ferron Utah, died Wednesday January 15, 2020 in Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on September 1, 1928 in Oasis Utah as Emma Lanora Ide.
Lanora always had a strong work ethic starting as a young girl on her dad's farm. Throughout her life she worked in a bank, cut meat in the Ferron locker plant, worked for the city of Ferron, was a Justice of the Peace for Emery County and finally worked for the Federal Agriculture Department before officially retiring.
After her retirement, She loved to travel with her friends. They took trips to Alaska, traveled all over Europe, Mexico and took several cruises. She has a photo book for every trip with all the pictures labeled and neatly tucked in the albums.
She loved her family and was always there to support them. She never missed a sporting event, dance recital or play that her kids were a part of. And you always knew she was there because she was the loudest cheerleader in the stands.
She is survived by her daughter Geraldine Jensen, her son Gary, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Charlene attended Price High School and graduated in the class of 1957. She went on to attend and graduate from beauty school. She married Bard Christiansen, July 24, 1961 in Elko, Nevada. She was a member of the LDS Church.
Charlene loved spending time with her family, and her dogs. She loved being outdoors where she liked fishing, camping, or gardening. She was a wonderful cook and canner. She will be missed by her family and those who knew her.

He married Charlene Ide, July 24, 1961 in Elko, Nevada.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a member of the LDS Church. Bard enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, wood work, reloading and spending time with his wife and family. He also enjoyed camping, drawing and training horses.

July 12, 2017Luella I. Johnson, 87, of Rifle, passed away July 6, 2017, in Fruita, Colorado.
She was born June 1, 1930, in Delta, Utah, to Lucian and Florence Ide. She was raised in Carbon County, Utah, and attended schools in Wellington and Price. Luella married Norris Walter Johnson of Price April 17, 1949; their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Cardston Temple, Alberta, Canada.
Luella was dedicated to her husband and family as they made a career in the military for over 20 years. Norris retired from the U.S. Air Force and they moved their family to Silt, Colorado, in 1969. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Rifle Ward and enjoyed serving in various capacities. She supported her community, TOPS, V.F.W. Post #9304, and other organizations. She enjoyed people, animals, farming, gardening, fishing, camping and her pets.
Luella loved her family and delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed and never forgotten. She mourned the loss of her eternal love, Norris, who passed away in 1998. Luella is survived by her three children: Glade Johnson (Laura) of Grand Junction, Dan Johnson (Aleen) of Fruita and Darlene Frampton (Dale) of Gilbert, Arizona; nine grandchildren Stacie, Jennifer, Kimberly, Travis, Jared, Kevin, Janel, Christopher and Shane; and 21 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters: Audrey Drake of Dallas, Texas, Bonnie Duncan of Delta, Colorado, and Pat Willson of Emery, Utah.
She is preceded in death by her parents, sister (Eva LaValley) and brother (James "Frank" Ide).

October 27. 2010Eva Deon LaValley of Paonia died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. She was 75.
Mrs. LaValley was born July 20, 1935, in Price, Utah, to Lucian and Florence (Webb) Ide. She spent her childhood in Price and Wellington, Utah. She graduated from Price High School.
She married James LaValley on April 4, 1954, in Wellington, Utah. They lived in Garfield, Ark., for 31 years before moving to Paonia two years ago.
Mrs. LaValley enjoyed reading, gardening, embroidery, sewing, cooking and word search puzzles. She raised cockatiels and sheep. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Paonia.
She is survived by her husband, James LaValley of Paonia; three daughters, Karla Archer and her husband Bob of Coll-bran, Beverly Perla and her husband Joe of Paonia, and Carlene Martinez of Springdale, Ark.; four sisters, Luella Johnson of Rifle, Audrey Drake and her husband Edwin of Mesquite, Texas, Bonnie Duncan and her husband David of Paonia, and Patricia Willson and her husband Mike of Ferron, Utah; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. LaValley was preceded in death by two sons, Theodore "Teddy" LaValley and Craig LaValley; and a brother, James Ide.

James worked for The House of Webster. He enjoyed riding horses, farming, reading and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved his kids and grandchildren. He was a coal miner for over 20 years. He served honorably in the United States Air Force.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eva Deon LaValley, two sons Craig and Theadore LaValley and a grandson Craig Karl LaValley Jr.
Survivors include three daughters, Carlene Razo and husband Juan Carlos of Springdale; Beverly Perla and husband Joe of Utah; Karla and husband Robert Archer of Colorado; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors and his favorite pastime was working in his garden. He always had a beautiful garden and he cherished every moment he spent working in his yard.
He loved traveling, bowling and caring for his two little dogs.

Funeral services for Frank Preston Childs, 81, pioneer stockman of Tehema County, who died Saturday in San Francisco have been set for Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock in Fickert's Chapel with internment in the family plot at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Childs was born in Kansas, May 29, 1877, and at the age of two came to California with the pioneers. Later the family moved to Manton where they operated the Manton Hotel. On January 1, 1900 he was married to the late Olive Rowena Nanney in a double wedding ceremony with her sister the late Lulu R. Nanney and the late Bert McKenzie.
He was widely known and respected throughout Northern California ranching circles and was considered one of the pioneer ranchers who introduced the breeding of Hereford cattle in California. He operated two ranches at Childs Meadows and Paynes creek for some 50 years until his retirement in 1950.
He is survived by four children Mrs. Myrtle Dayton of Yuba City, Eric Childs of Monterey, Mrs. Hollis Hickman of San Francisco, and Coyle Childs of Paynes Creek. There are five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Esther began her career as a teacher in the 1930's at the one-room Macum Schoolhouse near Manton, CA. Her son attended the school, and her father and brother worked at the Inskip Powerhouse nearby. A few years later as a single parent she lived and worked in the Redding area. She then lived in Oakland with her second husband Joe, where she retired. After Joe died she took in her brother Elwood, who had become sightless in later life. Esther enjoyed traveling, having lunch with old friends, and visiting her six grand children.

Born in Manton, she was a Yuba-Sutter resident for over 30 years.
She was a retired San Francisco second-grade school teacher.
Survivors include one son, John Finnell of Polson, Mont.; one sister Myrtle Dayton of Yuba City; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Young and John Finnell
