Marie Brewer

The Arizona Daily Star (Tucson, AZ)
February 10, 2013

Marie Haskell Ballard was born October 28, 1921 in Ririe, Idaho, and left behind her earthly body and crossed over into the arms of her Lord on February 4, 2013. She was 91 years old.

She is once again clear of mind, and dancing with her "Slim" and the angels that carried her home. She is no longer burdened by the alzheimers that took so much from her.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Woodard; her companion, Will Walker; her husband, Eldon Albert "Slim" Haskell with whom she shared 29 years of marriage that produced four children. Also preceding her in death were her last husband, Bill Ballard and grandson, Caleb Haskell, as well as two sisters and two brothers.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Jan Haskell and her partner, Judi; her son, Brad Haskell and partner, Mary; her son, Kim Haskell and wife, Karen and son, Dan Haskell. Also surviving her are grandchildren, Cherine and Ashley Haskell, Timothy Haskell and wife, Christine, Lauren and Derek Paine and Ashton Haskell. She also leaves behind two precious great-grandchildren, Quinn Haskell and Stella

Paine. Marie cherished her children and was always active in every aspect of their lives. She was the perfect homemaker and always bragged about her kids and grandkids to anyone that would listen.

After leaving Idaho in 1959, she and Slim and the kids moved first to Long Beach, and later Fountain Valley, California. After Slim's death in 1974, Marie resided in LaJolla and Riverside, California before moving to Tucson to be close to her daughter Jan. Marie was a lover of people, always noticing their eyes first. She gave hugs freely, and even in her final days, told those around her how much she loved them. She was a woman of faith, strength and conviction and believed fully that she would be reunited in heaven with Slim, the true love of her life. She saw him "dancing in the doorway" a week before her passing. Marie will be missed by her family and the many lucky folks who knew her. She will be buried next to Slim in Huntington Beach, California with close family in attendance.
