Frank W. Stevens was born on November 1, 1908 the son of Arthur and Anna Stevens. He grew up in Pipestone, Minnesota and later went to Kensington, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Arlouine Anderson.

Frank passed away at the Hoffman Care Center, Hoffman, Minnesota, Friday, July 25, 1980 at the age of 71.

Surviving are his wife Arlouine of Kensington, Minnesota; 4 daughters: Sharon Stevens of Garfield, Minnesota; Janice, Mrs. Warren Smith of Hastings, Minensota; Vale, Mrs. Waldow Johnson of Hoffman, Minnesota; Debbie Stevens of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 2 sons: Frank Stevens Jr. and Glenn Stevens, both of Kensington, Minnesota. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren; 3 sisters: Mrs. Beryle Martin of Slayton, Minnesota; Mrs. Marlyn Anderson of Inver Grove, Minnesota; Mrs. Mertyle Eichhorn of Jacksonville, Florida; 3 brothers: Roy of Tracy, Minnesota; Don of San Diego, California and Earl of Pipestone, Minnesota.

Arlouine G. Stevens, age 89 of Barrett died Sunday, February 28th at her residence at Stevens Homes Plus in Barrett.

Arlouine Gwendolyn Stevens the daughter of Oscar and Sylvia (Sorenson) Anderson was born on May 20, 1920 in Iona, Minnesota. She grew up in Murray County where she attended country school and attended Solem Lutheran Church.

On December 1, 1939, Arlouine was united in marriage to Frank W. Stevens in South Dakota. They made their home on a farm in the Lake Wilson area until 1948, when the couple moved to the Kensington area. Arlouine and Frank shared 40 years of marriage before Frank passed away on July 25th, 1980.

Arlouine was a loving homemaker raising seven children. After her children were gone she started working at the Radisson Arrowwood in Alexandria, where she continued to work for 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, watching the Minnesota Twins, and crossword puzzles. She especially loved her grandchildren and visiting with her family and friends. Arlouine will be remembered for the love and care she showed for her family.

Arlouine is survived by her children, Frank Jr. (Maxine) Stevens of Kensington, MN, Sharon Stevens of Kensington, MN, Jan (Floyd) Latuff of Hastings, MN, Valerie (Waldo) Johnson of Hoffman, MN, Deb Schmidt of St. Croix Beach, MN and Glenn Stevens of Onamia, MN; a special nephew, Doug (Donna) Stevens of Barrett, whom she raised from age 8; 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Duane (Charlene) Anderson of San Diego, CA and Chuck (Donna) Anderson of Phoenix AZ.

She is preceded in death by her husband, 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

MARSHALL -- Services for Raymond Stevens, 82, of Tracy will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Tracy. Burial will be in the Tracy City Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Almlie Funeral Home in Tracy, with a memorial service at 7:30.

Mr. Stevens died Thursday, Oct 8, 1992, at Weiner Memorial Medical Center in Marshall.

He was born March 29, 1910, in Moulton Township near Edgerton to Art and Anne (Kench) Stevens.

He attended Chandler schools and farmed near Lake Wilson until 1947, when he moved to Tracy and began railroad work. He was baptized at the Church of Christ in 1947 and worked as a railroad conductor and brakeman until his retirement in 1970. He was active in the local Democratic Party and the Eagles Club. He was an avid horseman and enjoyed everything relating to railroad work.

Survivors include two daughters, Sylvia (Mrs. Charles) Peterson of Gary, Ind., and Sandra (Mrs. Don) Polzine of Tracy; four sons Arthur of Garvin, Roger of Minneapolis, C. Douglas of Barrett, and Milo of Redmond, Wash.; two sisters, Ethel Anderson of Kensington and Beryl Martin of Tracy; 21 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Wilma I. Vander Poel, 92, Pipestone, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004 at Pipestone County Medical Center.

Wilma Irene Vander Poel was born to William and Irene (Kingsbury) Stevens on Oct. 26, 1911 in Murray County, Minn. She was raised in Murray County and attended school in Edgerton.

She married John Vander Poel on Feb. 14, 1928 at her parents' home in Murray County. Following their marriage they lived on the Kingsbury homestead northwest of Edgerton.

After their retirement, they continued to live on the farm. In 1999, they became residents of the Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone where they shared a room until the death of John on July 7, 1999. Following his death, Wilma continued to reside at the Good Samaritan Village.

On Saturday, Oct. 9 she was transferred to the Pipestone County Medical Center where she remained until her death.

She is survived by her eight children, Jack (Vernice) Vander Poel, Pipestone, Norman (Donna) Vander Poel, Fresno, Calif., Vera Rydell, McAllen, Texas, Ken Vander Poel, Shelly, Lois Vander Poel, Shelly, Lila (Harlan) Manguson, Tracy, Lynn (Allen) Wahlert, Luverne and Lori (Roger) Devericks, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 23 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Erma Zwart, Edgerton, Pearl Anselm, Downy, Calif. and Ruth (Jack) Hord, Worthington; two brothers, Charles Duane Stevens, Washington and Mifford (Del) Stevens, Astoria, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Mark; one grandson, Donald Rydell and two brothers, Wesley and Merle Stevens.

Erma Zwart, 95, Edgerton, died Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at Pipestone County Hospice Home, Pipestone.

Erma Myrtle Stevens was born July 27, 1916 to William W. and Irene C. (Kingsbury) Stevens in Murray County. She was active in high school and 4-H in the Chandler/Leota/Edgerton area.

She married William (Bill) M. Zwart on Feb. 20, 1935 and moved to a farm near Leota where they started their family and lived eleven years. After Bill completed his electrical training and received his master's license, they quit farming and moved their family in the spring of 1946 to their newly built house on Maple Street in Edgerton. Eventually they purchased the building at 825 Main Street and operated an electrical contracting business, GE appliance center, paint and fishing supply store known as Zwart's Electric. Erma served as shopkeeper, bookkeeper and later laundromat operator until it and the building were sold in 1970. They bought the old Dr. De Boer home and property on Mechanic Street and built a new home there. Later they continued their electrical contracting from their new home on Seventh Avenue West until spring of 1973 when the business was sold.

Bill and Erma marked their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 20, 1995.

Bill entered the Edgebrook Rest Center in May 1989 and died on June 15, 1995. Erma resided at the Edgebrook Assisted Living from fall 2006 until Aug. 29, 2010. She entered the Pipestone County Hospice Home on Oct. 8, 2010.

She is survived by her children, Roger (Arlene Lubben) Zwart, Boulder, Colo.; Marla (Ardean) Ladd, Palm Springs, Calif.; Judith (Ray) Binder, Oacoma, S.D.; Boyd (Cynthia Eakins) Zwart, Longmont, Colo. and Terry (James) Vander Beek, Fulda; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; siblings, Ruth (Jack) Hord, Worthington and Milford (Delpha) Stevens, Astoria, Ore., and one sister-in-law, Ann Zwart of California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; five siblings, Wilma, Merle, Pearl, Wesley and Charles Dwayne; two daughters, Sherry Rieck and Joyce Josephes and three grandchildren.

Doris Evans Stevens, 78, Pipestone, died Friday, Feb. 21 2003, at Luverne Community Hospital in Luverne.

Doris Ressmeyer was born to Henry and Harriet (Evans) Ressmeyer on Dec. 30, 1924, in Pipestone. She grew up and attended schools in Woodstock. After graduating from Pipestone High School in 1942, she moved to Rock Island, Ill., to work as a machinist drilling barrel chambers for 30 caliber machine guns during World War II. After the war she returned to Pipestone and worked for the J.C. Penney's Store.

She married Wesley Stevens on Oct. 20, 1946. Following their marriage they moved to Edgerton. In 1949 they moved to Kimball, S.D., and in 1953 they moved to Whittier, Calif. In 1976 they returned home to Murray County to live and work on the family farm where Mr. Stevens grew up. Mr. Stevens died on Sept. 16, 1992. She remained on the farm until Feb. 1, 2000, when she moved to Good Samaritan Village in Pipestone. On Feb. 20 she was admitted to Luverne Community Hospital.

Mrs. Stevens was a member of the Presbyterian faith. She was a 50-year member of Eastern Star and a member of the Chandler Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo and attending the performances at Pipestone Performing Arts Center.

Survivors include three sons, Steve (Karen) Stevens, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Paul (Heather) Stevens, Upland, Calif., and Don Stevens, Pipestone; five grandchildren, Jay, Jill, Randy, Mikel and Seleste Stevens; and one brother, George (Elaine) Ressmeyer, Dead Lake.

Ruth Arlene Hord, age 86, was born on March 3, 1928, in Moulton Township, MN, the daughter of William and Irene (Kingsbury) Stevens. She graduated from Edgerton Public School and then attended Rio Hondo College in California, where she was an honor student in Psychology, Stenography, and Sociology.

Ruth married Sherwin Dornburg and they divorced.

She married Thomas Kinnamon and they later divorced.

Ruth married Jack Hord on December 17, 1977.

She lived in various cities in California including, Downy, Norwalk, and La Mirada. Ruth moved to Worthington, MN in 1979. She worked as a clerk in a store and was also an award winning Avon salesperson. As a child, she enjoyed riding horseback and picking apples at her parent's apple orchard. She was also involved with ballroom dancing and built a ballroom dance floor in her Norwalk home and entertained many groups and barbequed for her guests. Ruth did volunteer work through the church, visiting prisoners, patients, and delinquent youth, was a Brownie Scout Leader, and Bible School volunteer. She loved to play cards, especially 500, and entertain guests. Ruth died on Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, MN.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Jack Hord of Worthington, MN; two daughters, Valerie Clark of Austin, TX and Vivian Elsing of Chandler, MN; five grandchildren, Daniel, Eric, Patrick, David, and Nicole; four great grandchildren, Victoria, Brock, Delores, and Antonia; one brother, Milford (Delpha) Stevens of Astoria, OR, and two step sons, Robert Hord and Michael Hord.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Merle, Wesley, and Duane Stevens; three sisters, Erma Zwart, Wilma VanderPoel, and Pearl Anslem; step son, James Hord, and step daughter, Donna Kinnamon.

Jack Albert Hord, age 86, was born on June 6, 1930, in San Angelo, TX, the son of Tandy and Jennie Belle (Smith) Hord.

Jack served 20 years in the United States Army from October of 1947 to October of 1967. He served with Company A 2nd Battalion Infantry Division "The Big Red One". Jack spent a significant amount of time at Fort Riley, KS and was most proud of his service there. He did two tours of duty in Germany.

Jack married Elizabeth in California and they had one child, Robert. After their divorce, he married Fanny from Germany and they had Jimmy who died in a motorcycle accident. They divorced and Jack married Ruth Stevens on December 17, 1977 in Norwalk, CA.

Jack was a long time member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church, and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Posts. He was an avid fisherman and Lake Sarah, ballroom dancer, and supporter of the Republican party, all of which he enjoyed doing with Ruth. Jack died on Friday, January 20, 2017, at the Crossroads Care Center in Worthington, MN.

Jack is survived by son, Pastor Robert Hord who lives in Italy; two step daughters, Valerie (David) Clark of Texas, and Vivian Elsing of Chandler, MN; two sisters, Gladys Gerrard and Edith Linthicum. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; sister, Betty Linthicum, and one brother Alvin.

Charles Dwayne Stevens, 76, of Grants Pass died July 18, 2008, at his home.

He was born Aug. 3, 1931, in Murray County, Minn., to William Walter and Irene Cherna (Kingsbury) Stevens, the seventh of eight children.

He grew up on the family farm. He graduated from Edgerton High in 1949, and began selling magazine subscriptions and taking family photos in southern Minnesota. He joined the Navy during the Korean War and operated electronic flight training machines in California, and later worked for IBM. He started a hydraulic business in San Leandro, Calif., and lived in Hayward and Napa, Calif., before moving to Grants Pass in 1978. He spent his last 30 years running a photo machine business, traveling to county and state fairs all over the West. He enjoyed politics, history, traveling and dancing. He was a Mason and a member of the Eagles.

Survivors include two daughters, Charlene Bennett of Arizona, and Linda Mileham of California; a son, Charles of Arizona; three sisters, Erma Zwart and Ruth Hord, both of Minnesota, and Pearl Anselm of California; a brother, Milford of Astoria; his former wife, Lorene of California; his companion of 10 years, Christa Watson of Grants Pass; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Milford "Steve" Blaine Stevens passed away peacefully on May 16, 2019.

He was born on May 30, 1933, in Edgerton, Minnesota, to parents William Walter and Irene Chena (Kingsbury) Stevens. He was the youngest, and the last surviving member, of his seven siblings.

Milford married Delpha Fern (Veenhuis) Stevens on Dec. 30, 1953. He is survived by his "Beautiful Bride" of 65 years; and three children, Cliff (Debi), Brad (Donna) and Mary; as well as a small army of grandchildren; and a new generation of rapidly growing great-grandchildren.

Milford volunteered for the Army, and served his country for many years, being honorably discharged in 1962.

He used his GI Bill to obtain a master's degree in mathematics, and spent his early years teaching at high schools and colleges in Minnesota, California, Oregon and Washington state. He ended his educational career in 1995, after spending 26 years as a mathematics professor at Clatsop Community College.

DAVENPORT - Dorothy E. Stevens, 98, of Davenport, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Davenport Lutheran Home.

She was born June 27, 1910, in Wheeler Township, Lyon County, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Marie (Janssen) Woelber. On June 26, 1949, she married Lyle Stevens in Pipestone, Minn. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1983.

Mrs. Stevens and her husband were engaged in farming until the mid-1960s. She was then employed by Davenport Good Samaritan for 15 years prior to her retirement in 1980.

She enjoyed quilting, baking, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Mark and Judy Stevens of Eldridge, and Rodney Stevens of Davenport; three grandchildren and their spouses, Melissa and Mike Frantz of Walcott, Brian and Janine Stevens, and Jeff and Christina Stevens, all of Davenport; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Stevens, Doris Marie, age 93 of Rosemount, formerly of Shoreview, passed away on February 23, 2018.

She was born on a farm near Pipestone, MN. When her father became Sheriff she lived above the Police Station for 12 years. After high school graduation she attended college in Minneapolis. Doris taught elementary school, was a farmer's wife, moved to the cities and raised her 3 children. Doris was always active, even working part time in a clothing store while she taught school. Doris travelled to France, Spain and the Panama Canal. She especially enjoyed fishing Minnesota lakes with her friends during the 37 years she lived in Shoreview. After early retirement from teaching, she worked as a companion for an elderly woman in St. Paul, volunteered many hours for Meals on Wheels and helped with bingo at a nursing home near Shoreview. Doris lived her final two years at "The Rosemount" living life to the fullest making wonderful friends, participating in new activities and loving the attentive staff.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ellen Heesch; brother, Duane and beloved daughter, Patricia.

Doris is survived by her loving sons, Stuart (Valerie) and Bruce (Lisa); grandchildren, Troy (Cindi), Tracey (Felicia), Dave, Katie (Nick), Greg (Heather), Cody, and Carlie (Beau); great grandchildren, Whittni, Brooke, Alicia, Kayla, Kyle, Lainey, Addison, Kylie, Max and Haddie; sister, Marge, sister-in-law, Eileen; also by other relatives and friends

Ann Stevens, 92, of Edgerton, MN died Thursday, July 21, 2011 at Pipestone County Medical Center.

Ann Stevens (nee Gorter) was born at home in Doon, IA to Lawrence and Ann (Oostra) Gorter on November 21, 1918. As a youth she helped her parents on the farm while attending Doon Christian Grade School through the eighth grade. After working on a dairy farm near Rock Rapids she moved to Grand Rapids, MI to assemble car door handles at Keiler Brass. When she was 18 she moved to California and worked at Boeing Aircraft in Bellflower and in Long Beach as a welder and riveter in the shipyards during World War II.

In 1945 she moved back home and worked at Hicks Café in Pipestone, MN where she met her soul mate, Louis Stevens. They were married at her parents' home in Pipestone on January 23, 1946. They moved to northern Minnesota to farm and to bottle milk, then moved back to Murray County to the Stevens homestead where they worked together gardening, canning, haying, harvesting, milking, and most importantly, raising six

healthy, happy children. To give their children a Christian education, Ann worked at Campbell's Soup Company in Worthington, but when Grandpa George Stevens moved to the Edgerton nursing home, she began working there to help take care of him.

One of her greatest gifts was caring for the elderly and her family, especially her grandchildren. After retirement from the farm, Ann and Louis moved into Edgerton. In 2000 they moved together to Edgebrook Estates.

On December 6, 2003 Louis died of cancer and Ann continued to live in the apartment until February of 2011 when she became a resident of Edgebrook Nursing Home.

Ann was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church where her faithful love for God, church, and family continued to grow stronger.

She went to be with her Lord on July 21, 2011 at the age of 92 years and 8 months.

Those who lovingly remember and cherish her memory are her six children: Mary Ann DeGroot of Edgerton, MN, Rosella (Dennis) Dockter of Starkweather, ND, Gordon (Bev) Stevens of Mankato, MN, Roy (Julie) Stevens of Pipestone, Renett Geyer of Sioux Falls, SD, and Craig (Tami) Stevens of Pipestone; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-greatgrandchildren; sisters, Rena Ford of Edgerton, and Mary (Dick) Van Hofwegen of Hardwick, MN; and many other relatives and friends.

Helen Veldhuizen was born in Minnesota on September 8, 1921 and passed away in Tulare on October 8, 2009 at the age of 88.

She loved having her great grandchildren around. She enjoyed crocheting bread wrapper bags and Afgans. She was so proud of her amarillas and Christmas cactus.

She was preceded in death by her husband Albert and is survived by her sons Richard, Garry, Thomas, and Raymond. Her twelve grandchildren, Rae Ann Sweeney, Loren Veldhuizen, Darla Gomes, Sherri Blanco, Lisa Steinstra, Lynette Caldwell, Lea Ann Gassaway, Robin Bump, Gary Veldhuizen Jr., Joyce Veldhuizen, Renee Pettit, and Greg Veldhuizen. She is also survived 25 great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren.


71501. Marshall Victor Stevens

Marshall Victor Stevens, was born on March 4, 1924, to George and Jennie (Kortleever) Stevens on the Stevens' homestead which was a farm north of Leota, Minnesota. When he was four years old, he moved with his family to a farm two miles west of the homestead where he was raised and attended school. He continued his education at Edgerton Public High School in Edgerton, Minnesota. After his graduation, he worked for his dad on the farm.

On March 10, 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II. While he was on leave in 1945, he married Velma Welk in Chandler, Minnesota. Following his discharge from the service on May 11, 1946, he returned to the farm. In 1950, he and his wife moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked  for Gates Rubber Company.  They later divorced.

On December 31, 1960, he married Betty Herron in Englewood, Colorado. Following their marriage, they lived in Denver and Marshall continued to work for Gates Rubber Company. Betty preceded him in death in April 2002. In 2004, he moved to Edgerton, Minnesota, to be closer to his family. He was living in Ridgeview Estates in Pipestone. Marshall passed away peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019 at the Pipestone County Hospice House at the age of 95 years, 6 months, and 11 days.

Marshall was raised in the Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed working in his shop with his tools. He made side tables, picture frames, clock cases, letter holders, napkin holders, and any smaller item he could craft from scrap wood.

He is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Linda Stevens of Chandler, Minnesota, and his brother, Larry Stevens and his wife Gloria of Edgerton, Minnesota.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Russell Stevens, Louis Stevens, Verna Gilbertson, and Helen Veldhuizen and their spouses; and his wives, Velma (Welk) Stevens and Betty (Herron) Stevens.

Russell, "Russ" Gordon Stevens, 84, Brainerd, Minn., died Friday, March 28, 2014 following a period of declining strength and health.

Russ, a son given by the Lord to George and Jennie (Kortlever) Stevens, was born on the family farm in Murray County, Minn., June 10, 1929, The span of his early journey here on earth was 84 years, 10 month and 18 days. In the days prior to his passing he had expressed to his family members his desire to be reunited with the love of his life, his wife Delores.

Today his family rejoices in the knowledge that he passed the barrier of time as we know it and is forever at home with the Savior he faithfully served.

In 1952, he married Delores Kolbeck in Humboldt, S.D. They moved from South Dakota to Minnesota in 1958 where they established the farm of their dreams, farming 310 acres, raising dairy cattle, beef cattle, chickens and pigs on Heron and Nokay Lake, Minn. Together for 57 years, they experienced the changing seasons of life, raising their seven children.

Russ was proudly active in his community serving on the Nokay Lake Township Board for 32 years, State Fire Warden for 25 years and Consolidated Telephone Board for 15 years.

Russ will be remembered for his love of farming, fishing, working with wood, and the joy he experienced when surrounded by family and friends.

Surviving Russ, are his seven children: Myron (Kathy) Stevens Brainerd, Debra (Albert "Spike") Nelson, Brainerd, Leland (Emily) Stevens, Palmer, Ark., Mark (Lenore) Stevens, Mooreton, N.D., George (AnnMarie) Stevens, Paynesville, Minn., Dan (Loreen) Stevens,Westminster, Colo., Cheryl (Tony) Hettver, Brainerd; two brothers, Marshall Stevens, Edgerton, Minn., and Larry (Gloria) Stevens, Edgerton; 21 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; his best friend and cousin, Charles, "Bud" Sedlachek, who weathered the good times and tough times with Russ throughout the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Jennie Stevens; his beloved wife, Delores; one brother Louis Stevens; two sisters, Verna Gilbertson and Helen Veldhuizen; and a precious grandchild, Tonya Hettver.

Underdahl, Dorothy L. (Stevens), age 93, of Coon Rapids passed away March 7, 2014.

Preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters.

Dorothy dedeicated her life to the care of her family. She believed life should be enjoyed and filled with laughter and love.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Ben Mark (Rosemary) of Coon Rapids, Gloria Lyncy (John) of the Villages, FL., and Judy Kinseth (Rick) of Coon Rapids; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; many other friends and relatives.


Hazel Mae Nihart

Hazel Mae Prinsen was born to William M. and Hazel (Minor) Nihart on May 4, 1924 on a farm in Shaokatan Township of Lincoln County, near Lake Benton, Minnesota. She was raised in various places near Lake Benton where she also attended school. Upon completion of her education, she did housecleaning for others.

On July 13, 1941, she was united in marriage to Walter Gitchell Prinsen at the pastor's home in Tyler, Minnesota. Shortly after their marriage, Walter went into the service. While he was in the service, Hazel lived in Florida. After Walter's discharge from the service, they farmed near Lake Benton. During this time, Hazel also worked at Swift and Company in Marshall, Minnesota, Clippers Caf and Store in Verdi, Minnesota, the Eagle's Restaurant in Pipestone, Minnesota, and the Senior Center in Pipestone. In 1961, they began farming in Troy Township, north of Pipestone. She worked hard on the farm while also raising their children. In 1978, they purchased an acreage in Troy Township.

Walter preceded her in death on August 13, 1988. After his death, Hazel continued to live on the acreage until 1988 when she moved into Pipestone. On Friday, June 8, 2012, she died at the Pipestone County Hospice House at the age of 88 years, one month, and four days.

Hazel was a member of Faith Community Church in Pipestone where she helped serve in the kitchen and volunteered her time in the nursery. She enjoyed sewing and made quilts for her family. She also enjoyed gardening and had a beautiful flower garden. She was always an ambitious homemaker and a natural hostess. She made everyone feel at home. She was a great cook, and everyone loved her fried chicken and homemade pies. She enjoyed playing cards with her sisters. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Hazel Hanson and her husband Abe of Bemidji, Minnesota, William Prinsen and his wife Mary of Wyoming, Minnesota, John Prinsen and his wife Martha of Mainz, Germany, Richard Prinsen and his wife Joan of Pipestone, Minnesota, Judy Hartz of Antioch, California, Ed Prinsen and his wife Darla of Aurora, South Dakota, and Jacque Halbersma and her husband Doug of Pipestone, Minnesota; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Marlin Nihart and his wife Ruth of Huron, South Dakota; and three sisters, Louise Mortland of Arco, Minnesota, Lucille Strom of Woodstock, Minnesota, and Maryln Wittrock of Pipestone, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Prinsen; her son, Arthur Prinsen; her daughter, Faye Aardema; her great-grandchildren, Evan Fluit and Maggie Grace Prinsen; her parents; three brothers, Earl Nihart, True Nihart, and Stacy Nihart; one sister, Irene Hind; and three sons-in-law, Lowell Rundell, Stan Aardema and Bob Hartz.

Elmer J. Prinsen, 80, Pipestone, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2004 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.

Elmer James Prinsen was born to Harman J. and Julie Tillie (Stevens) Prinsen on March 14, 1923 in Edgerton.

As a young boy, he lived with his parents near Edgerton where he began attending country school. The family moved to a farm near Elkton, S.D. and then to a farm near Lake Benton where he continued to attend country school. Upon completion of his education, he served in the Merchant Marines. When he returned home a short time later, he helped his father on the farm until he entered the U.S. Air Force and served in Japan. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Pipestone where he was employed in the Service Department at Montgomery Ward's. Then he began working as a mechanic at International Harvester in Pipestone.

He married Nyla Carstensen on June 5, 1948 in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Pipestone.

After they were married, they resided in Pipestone and Elmer continued working at International Harvester. In the spring of 1953, they moved to a farm in Sweet Township in Pipestone County. In 1976, they moved back to Pipestone where Elmer became self-employed in the construction business. After he retired in the early 1980s, they enjoyed traveling to Harlingen, Texas during the winter months. He was admitted to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne on July 9, 1999.

He was active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Pipestone for many years. He was currently a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone. He was a member of the Order of Odd Fellows Lodge as well as the Michael Boock American Legion Post #6. He was active in the Citizens Scholarship Foundation of Pipestone. While spending his winters in Texas, he kept active at the Fun 'N' Sun Resort doing volunteer work.

He is survived by his wife, Nyla; four daughters, Barbara (Bob) DeBates, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Peggy (Tom) Herges, Scotland, S.D.; Kristi Vedad Haghi (Vee "Mark"), Eden Prairie; and Jody (Bernie) Siefken, O'Fallon, Mo.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Louise Rogge, Little Falls and Anna Mae (Frank) Hamersma, Alcester, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Johnie Prinsen, Walter Prinsen and Earl Prinsen; and one sister, Mabel Whitman.


Nyla Jeanne Carstensen

NYLA JEANNE PRINSEN was born to George and Leone (Eggers) Carstensen, Sr., on April 18, 1928 in Pipestone County, Minnesota. Her baptism and confirmation was in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Nyla attended grade school at District #11 in Pipestone County, and she graduated from Pipestone High School in 1946. She then attended the Minneapolis School of Business. Upon completion of her education, she worked as the bookkeeper for Pan-O-Gold Bakery in Pipestone.

On June 5, 1948, she was united in marriage to Elmer Prinsen at Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage, they resided in Pipestone where she continued to work for Pan-O-Gold Bakery. Nyla was also the secretary for Zion United Methodist Church in Pipestone. After retiring from the farm, Nyla became employed in the offices of the Pipestone High School. She and Elmer began traveling in 1988 when she retired. They enjoyed with winter months at the Fun N' Sun Resort near Harlingen, Texas.

On February 13, 2004, Elmer preceded her in death. Following his death, she continued to reside in Pipestone.

Nyla died peacefully on Friday, December 4, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone at the age of 92 years, seven months, and 16 days.

Nyla was a member of Peace United Methodist Church in Pipestone where she attended the church circle. She was also a member of the Jr. Sorosis Club, the CC Club, and several card groups. She volunteered at the church and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Barbara (Bob) DeBates Colorado Springs, Colorado, Kristi (Vee "Mark") Vedad Haghi of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Jody (Bernie) Siefken of Dardenne Prairie, Missouri; son-in-law, Tom Herges of Scotland, South Dakota; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, George "Tom" (Mildred) Carstensen of Pipestone, William "Bill" (Sandra) Carstensen of Pipestone, Charles (Janet) Carstensen of Rochester, Minnesota; and many other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; her daughter, Peggy Herges; three great-grandchildren, Ian DeBates, Hailey Seabrooks, and McKinley Swier; and her parents, George and Leona.

Anna M. Hamersma, 80, Beresford, S.D., died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at Bethesda of Beresford.

Anna Mae Hamersma was born May 9, 1925 in Edgerton to Harmon and Julia (Stevens) Prinsen.

At the age of five, Anna moved with her parents to Lake Benton where she attended school.

She married Frank Hamersma on Sept. 5, 1943. She worked for Pan-O-Gold Bakery and for various restaurants. They moved to Alcester, S.D. in 1955 and lived on a farm south of town. Anna worked at Dakota Industries. Soon she and Frank purchased their own farm and lived there for 40 years. She entered Bethesda of Beresford in 2000.

She was a Sunday School teacher and member of Faith Circle at the Alcester United Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Frank, Beresford; one daughter, Julie (Randy) Halbleib, Fayetteville, N.C.; one son, Steven Hamersma, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one daughter-in-law Bonnie McDonnel, Sioux Falls; three grandchildren and one sister, Louise Rogge, Little Falls.

She was preceded in death by a son, David; four brothers, Walter, Earl, Elmer and John and one sister, Mabel.


Frank Hamersma

Frank Hamersma - February 13, 1921 - May 19, 2009

Frank attended school in Union County, SD. He entered the United States Army in October of 1943. He was stationed in New Guinea and the Philippines during WWII. He was wounded in June of 1945 while serving in the Philippines and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Frank Married Anna Prinsen on September 5, 1943. After his return from the Army the couple lived in Pipestone, MN from 1946 to 1955. In 1955 they moved to the Alcester/Beresford area where Frank farmed until his retirement in 1990. Although retired, his favorite topic of conversation was always farming and anything that had to do with it. Anna passed away in January of 2006 and Frank later moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls where he resided until his death.

Frank was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ in Alcester. He also belonged to the Alcester VFW, and the D.A.V. He served on the Star School Board as well as the United Church of Christ board.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anna, son David, 3 sisters and 8 brothers.

His survivors include his son Steven Hamersma, Sioux Falls; daughter Julie Halbleib and husband Randy, Fayetteville, NC; 2 granddaughters, Melissa Sievers and husband Nick, Beresford, and Stephanie Halbleib, Fayetteville, NC; grandson Gerrett Hamersma, Beresford; daughter-in-law Bonnie Hamersma, Sioux Falls; sister Clara Reitsma, Fairmont, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Elene Margaret Deremo was born on February 12, 1918 to Fred and Lena (Sterrenburg) Stevens in Edgerton, Minnesota where she resided until 2015.

She attended Edgerton High School and graduated in 1935. She furthered her education, earning her Teaching Certificate in 1936. Elene worked as a teacher for several years before becoming the owner and operator of the Edgerton Greenhouse.

On April 1, 1945, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Deremo at her parents' house. The couple made their home in Edgerton until Charles preceded Elene in death on February 20, 2008. She continued to run the Edgerton Greenhouse until 2015 when she retired and relocated to The Waters Assisted Living in Plymouth, Minnesota.

On Saturday, February 3, 2018, Elene passed away in her home at the age of 99 years, 11 months, and 21 days.

Elene was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Edgerton, where she was baptized on June 17, 1923, and later participated in the Women's Circle. She enjoyed sewing and crafts and had a life-long passion for greenhouse work and floral arranging.

Elene is remembered by her children, Charlene Salinas and her husband, Celso of San Antonio, Texas, Charles L. Deremo of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Susanne Stinton and her husband, Darwin of Plymouth; six grandchildren, Chris Deremo, Alison Cooper, Brent Reese, Owen Reese, Sam Stinton, and Jennifer Salinas; and six great-grandchildren, Colburn, Parker, Rhoades, Wiley, Nathan, and Caleb Reese.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Deremo; parents, Fred and Lena; uncle, Dick Stevens; and aunt, Jennie Doornwaard.


Charles Earl Deremo

Charles E. Deremo, 90, Edgerton, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Sanford Hospice Cottage, Luverne.

Charles Earl Deremo was born to Thomas and Emma (Downs) Deremo on July 22, 1917 in rural LeMars, Iowa. At the age of three, he moved with his family to the Vilas, S.D. area where he attended country school through fifth grade. He then moved with his family to Orland Township, near Madison, S.D. and continued his education. After his graduation from Orland Township High School in 1936, he attended General Beadle College in Madison for two years. Upon completion of his education, he taught school in Osceola, S.D., for two years and then taught in Esmond, S.D., for one year. He moved to Edgerton where he taught seventh and eighth grade classes at the Edgerton Public School.

He married Elene Margaret Stevens at her parents' home. Following their marriage, he continued to teach school in Edgerton for a total of 39 years. During this time, he attended courses in the summer at Bemidji State Teachers College and later at University of South Dakota in Vermillion where he received his library science degree.

Following his retirement in 1983 he kept busy helping his wife at Deremo Greenhouse. He had been in ill health the past five years and on Monday, February 18 he entered Sanford Hospice Cottage.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Edgerton.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Elene Deremo, Edgerton; three children, Charlene (Celso) Salinas, Lincoln, Neb.; Charles Deremo, Apple Valley and Susanne (Darwin) Stinton, Omaha, Neb.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one brother, James William "Bill" Deremo, Madison, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Marna Edwards and Annie Johnson and one brother, Elbert Dunn.
