69555. Clarence Elmer Delano

Clarence Elmer DELANO, a pioneer resident of this area, died at 2:50 a.m. Sunday in Sanford Hospital. He had lived in Perryton 15 years and had previously lived in Beaver County since 1920.

Clarence Elmer DELANO was born December 22, 1885, at Hutchinson, Kansas, to Albert and Georgia Anne DELANO. The family moved to Woods county (now Alfalfa county) near Cherokee in the spring following the opening of the Cherokee strip in 1893.

There he attended a sod school and Church, where he was converted to Christianity. Here he grew to manhood.

Mr. DELANO followed the pioneer spirit of "moving West" and moved to a farm 15 miles north of Perryton in Beaver County, Oklahoma, in July, 1920. There he farmed until retirement in 1947. He has made his home at 1105 South Baylor in Perryton since.

He was married to Fannie Agnes WAKEFIELD at Alva, Oklahoma, on November 06, 1907. To this union were born four children, including Mrs. Desley (Sylvia) TICE of Gray, Carl DELANO of Hooker, Lester DELANO of Wichita, and Mrs. Bruce (Belva) FORNEY of Perryton.

In addition to his immediate family, Mr. DELANO is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Lettie WILLIAMS, of Bryon, Ohio, and Mrs. Bertha BORGART of San Lorenzo, California; a brother, Alva DELANO of San Diego, California; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

OBITUARY OF FANNIE AGNES DELANO

Mrs. DELANO died last Monday at the Beaver Nursing Home.

She was born in Fair Play, Missouri, and moved to Beaver, Oklahoma in 1920, and then to Perryton in 1946. She lived in Beaver for the past 10 years.

Mrs. DELANO is survived by two daughters and two sons; Sylvia TICE of Liberal, Kansas; Belva SMITH, of Perryton; Carl E. DELANO of Hooker, Oklahoma; and Lester A. DELANO of Wichita, Kansas.

Other survivors include three step-sisters, Grace ORINGDERFF, Marshie KENLINK, and Mary KENLINK, all of Cherokee, Oklahoma, and a brother, Willis WAKEFIELD, also of Cherokee.

Mrs. Mary A. Harsha, 82, 1426 N Third St., a resident here since 1925, died Friday in Colorado Springs.

Mrs. Harsha had been visiting there with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bob May, 1501 N Seventh St., who also own a home in Chipita Park, Colo.

She was born Feb. 11, 1887 at the Kaw Agency, Indian Territory, to Robert and Amanda Delano Puckett. Her father ran the Indian Trading Store and he and his family, the postmaster, doctor and teachers at the Indian Mission were the only non-Indians in the area.

After Kaw City located across the river, the town was named Washunga to honor the last chief of the Kaws. Her father made the Cherokee Strip run in 1893 and she was reared on a farm near Kaw City.

She started teaching country schools at the age of 17 and after additional schooling she went to Reno County, Kan., where she taught school for two years.

She was married to William L. Harsha Dec. 1, 1910, at her parents home in Kaw City.

They spent nine years at Partridge, Kan., in the general merchandise business. In 1952 the couple moved to Arkansas City where he bought a grocery store and operated it until 1953 when he retired. He died in May 1963.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Bob (Wilma) May, 1501 N Seventh St., two sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Jenkins, 906 N Summit St., Miss Cora Puckett, Hornell, N.Y., and one brother, J.T. Puckett, Cincinnati.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Howard, who died in 1969 and Robert who died in 1945.

Alice Isabel Haskell, 82, Kansas City, Kan., died July 4, 1991, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She was born in Richmond and moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 1929.

Miss Haskell was a switchboard operator for the Business Men's Assurance Co. of America for 43 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of the Central Avenue United Methodist Church. She was a member of the PBX Club and a past member of the Business and Professional Women's Club. She was a member of the Roanoke and Victory Drive senior citizens clubs. She was a volunteer for Cancer Action Inc.

Survivors include a sister, C.A. Redd, Kennewick, Wash.

Albert Haskell, 79 years old, a farmer who had lived all his life in Ray County, Missouri, diede yesterday morning at his farm home four miles northwest of Richmond.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Emma L. Haskell of the home; a son Gerald Haskell, 4009 Walnut street; three daughters, Mrs. Martha Ann Holland, 707 Westport road; Mrs. Kathryn Rottler, Independence, Kas, and Mrs. Samuel Thomas, Richmond, and a sister, Mrs. Robert Legate, Independence.

J. Lynn Rider, 86, Lexington, Mo ., died Sept. 24, 1992, at Research Medical Center. Mr. Rider was born in Sunshine, Mo ., and moved to Lexington in 1936. He was a maintenance worker for the Standard Oil Co. in Lexington for 31 years, retiring in 1970. He was past master and district deputy grand master of the Lexington Masonic Lodge. He was past commander of the Order of DeMolay, a member of the St. Chrysostom Conclave and the Red Cross of Constantine, and he was a Holy Royal Arch Knight Templar Priest. He was a member and deacon emeritus of the First Christian Church of Lexington, where he served on the pulpit committee in 1976.

His wife, Bernadine Thelma Rider, died in 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Jan Rider McCoy, Joplin, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Bernadine Thelma Rider, 81, Lexington, Mo ., died Nov. 7, 1991, in the Shirkey Leisure Acres Nursing Home, Richmond. She was born in Boonville, Mo ., and lived in Lexington most of her life.

Mrs. Rider worked for Montgomery Ward & Co. in Kansas City and Lexington for 10 years. Later she worked for Dunhill Shirt Co. in Lexington. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Women's Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution, all in Lexington. She was secretary and treasurer of the Wentworth Country Club, Lexington, for 11 years. She was a member and deaconess emeritus of the First Christian Church, Lexington.

Survivors include her husband, Lynn Rider of the home; a daughter, Jan McCoy, Joplin, Mo .; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. S

Ruth Janet Owens, 80, died Dec. 6, 1994, in the Meadowbroo k Manor of Kansas City, where she lived. Mrs. Owens was born in Sunshine, Mo ., and lived in Napoleon, Mo ., and Lexington before moving to Kansas City in 1991. Mrs. Owens taught at the Tri-County School of Cosmetology in Lexington before she retire d. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Buckner. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Lexington. Her husband, Kenneth S. Owens, died in 1977.

Survivors include three sons, Steve Owens, Manhattan, Kan., Gary Owens, Byron, Ill., and Philip Owens, Sag Harbor, N.Y.; a daughter, Ruth Ann Josephson, Independence; two sisters, Forrestine Sturgis and June Payne of Lexington; six grandchildren; and four great-grand- children.
