November 18, 1969Richard Allen Squires, 33, of 36,Maple St., died in Massena Memorial Hospital about 12:30 o'clock Sunday morning, Nov. 16, 1969, where he had been a patient since Thursday when he fell at his home.
Surviving are four children, Kenneth S. Squires, Wilson Hill and Bernard Squires, 6 James St., Mrs. Wilfred (Ruth) Cousineau, 28 Ober St., and Roy H. Squires, at home; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Squires was born in Massena, Oct. 11, 1886, a son of Allen and Charlotte Stearns Squires, descendants of early residents of Massena. He attended Massena schools and married Miss Anna Mae Hepburn, Sept. 27, 1904. They were married at the home of the bride's parents, Alphonzo and Mary Richards Hepburn. The Rev. S. S. Cobb, then pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church officiated.
Except for a short period in Boston, Mass., and Woodstock, Vt. Mr. Squires resided in the Squires family home on Maple St. his entire life. Mr. Squires established the Squires trucking business about 65 years ago. Mrs. Squires died Jan. 9, 1966.
Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Phillips Memorial Home and burial was made in Pine Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Michael Lynch, rector of St. John's Church, conducted the services.

Mrs. Ruth S. Cousineau, 90, formerly of 28 Ober Street, Massena, died Saturday (February 21, 2009) evening at the Connecticut Baptist Home, Meriden, Connecticut, where she had been a resident for the past 4 years. She moved to Connecticut 5 years ago to be near her daughter.
Ruth was born September 4, 1918 in Massena, the daughter of Richard A. and Anna Hepburn Squires. She graduated from Massena High School in 1936. She graduated at the top of her class from St. Lawrence University in 1940, where she was a classmate of Kirk Douglas. While in college, she was proficient in French, Latin, and German. She married Wilfred J. "Cooney" Cousineau on April 30, 1943, which was later Blessed at St. Mary's Church. He predeceased her on December 10, 1989.
She worked as a clerk at Alcoa for 10 years and later with the Erdman and Hosley on the St. Lawrence Seaway for several years. She loved to knit, do crossword puzzles, reading, traveling, and was always available to people, making them feel comfortable. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Massena and the United Methodist Women, where she served as the treasurer during the 60's and 70's.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gail Ann Cousineau and her husband, Robert Wright, Middletown, CT; her son and daughter-in-law, Gary R. and Bonnie Cousineau, Mitchell, IN; three grandchildren, Adam Wright, Middletown, CT, Keri and Derick Witty, Avon, IN, Bob LaDue, Iowa; two great grandchildren, Jackson and Garrett; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by an infant son, Gary in 1946; three brothers, Roy H. Squires on June 14, 1985, Bernard C. Squires on October 1, 1991, and Kenneth S. Squires on January 10, 1995; and three additional siblings in infancy.

June 25,1985Funeral services for Roy H. Squires, 64, of 184 Wilson Hill, Massena, were held June 16 at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, with Rev. Stanley E. Brown, pastor of the First United Methodist Church officiating. A Masonic service was held Saturday at the funeral home along with a memorial service conducted by American Legion members. Burial was in the Pine Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Squires died June 14,1985 at the Massena Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient since June 6.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Wilfred (Ruth) Cousineau, Massena; two brothers, Kenneth and Bernard Squires, Massena; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Squires was born Sept. 29, 1920 in Massena, son of Richard and Anna Hepburn Squires. He was a 1938 graduate of Massena High School and served in the Air Warning Service in Texas and Indiana during World War II.
He worked as a secretary/treasurer and office manager of the Homestead Dairy for 35 years, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge 513 F and AM and a past master, and was also a grand lecturer of the Second St. Lawrence Masonic District. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He was an avid bowler, a member of the First United Methodist Church, Massena and treasurer of the Pine Grove Cemetery Association.
