Mrs. Striffler Dies March 2 in Caro

Funeral services were held Friday for Mrs. Rose Striffler, 91, of Cass City, who died Tuesday, March 2, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility in Caro, where she had lived the past three years.

She was born Nov. 4, 1884, in New York, daughter of the late Clark and Elizabeth Underdonk Bixby.

She married Calvin J. Striffler Jan. 30, 1907, in Syracuse, N.Y. Following their marriage, they made their home in Cass City. He died March 16, 1961.

Mrs. Striffler was a member of Salem United Methodist church for 70 years.

She is survived by one brother, Edward Bixby of Syracuse, N.Y., and one step-brother, Wallace Laurie of Gagetown; two half-sisters, Mrs. Veda Montgomery and Mrs. Hazel Melick, both of Bad Axe, and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers and one stepbrother preceded her in death.

Calvin J. Striffler Dies Thursday

Funeral services were held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Little's Funeral Home for Calvin J. Striffler. Rev. S.R. Wurtz officiated and burial was in Elkland Cemetery. Mr. Striffler died in Hills and Dales Hospital Thursday evening. He had been in ill health the past three years.

Mr. Striffler was born in Cass City May 1, 1885, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Striffler. He married Rose Bixby January 3, 1907, in Syracuse, New York.

He had held the office of Justice of the Peace of Cass City for a number of years and was the present city assessor.

He was also a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

Survivors are his wife; four sisters, Mrs. Ida Nique and Mrs. Lillian Ricker, both of Cass City, Mrs. F.A. (Margaret) Smiley of Drayton Plains, Michigan, and Mrs. A.W. (Laura) Weaver of Flint.

Charles B. Onderdonk, 67, a retired engineer, died Friday morning at the Hospital of the Good Shepherd where had been a patient several days. Born in Wilson he had lived in Syracuse for 30 years.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Minnie E. Onderdonk; three daughters, Mrs. Roger K. Williams and Miss Hazel Onderdonk of Syracuse, and Mrs. Delbert H. Jelks of Georgia, and a brother, John G Onderdonk of Baldwinsvill

Services for M. Hazel Onderdonk, 96, formerly of 418 Milton Ave., who died Sunday at Hillhaven Nursing Home, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at John C. Tindall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.

Miss Onderdonk was a life resident of Syracuse. She retired in 1956 as a principal after 30 years with the Syracuse City School District. Miss Onderdonk had served as the principal of John T. Roberts, Van Duyn and Seymour elementary schools in the city. She also was an instructor at the former Syracuse Normal School. Miss Onderdonk was a 1915 graduate of Syracuse University.

Miss Onderdonk was a member of West Genesee United Methodist Church. She also was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority at SU.

Surviving are a sister, Doris Jelks of Macon, Ga.; a niece, Barbara Kidd of Baldwinsville; and two nephews, Albert A. and Jordon Jelks, both of Macon.

Services for Glenn G. Gould Jr., 75, a retired model maker at Harrison Division of General Motors, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Lange Funeral Home, 186 East Ave.

A native of Buffalo, he died Sunday (July 9, 1995) in Lockport Memorial Hospital. Gould of Lockport worked at Harrison for 41 years before his retirement in 1981 and was a member of Local 686, United Auto Workers. He was a World War II Army veteran and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. He also was taken prisoner but managed to escape.

Survivors include his wife, the former Genevieve Esthimer; two sons, Wayne L. of Burt and James M. of New Mexico; a brother, Robert W. of Middleport; a sister, Helen Kozody of Gasport; and two grandchildren.

Mrs. Koneski of Middleport, NY was a daughter of Hollis & Marjorie Weaver Sanders. She was the wife of the late Robert W. Gould and George Koneski and sister of the late Roy Sanders and Gary Sanders.

Survivors include 2 sons, David (Kathleen) Gould and Donald Gould; 2 grandchildren; her siblings, Ronald (Carol) Sanders, Roger (Charlotte) Sanders, Linda Ashton, Thera Horzempa, Arlin Sanders, Gerald (Patricia) Sanders and Roberta (Glen) Pafk and a sister-in-law, Pat Sanders.

LOCKPORT, May 1 � Funeral services will be held tomorrow for a former Niagara county sheriff and prominent Democrat, Benjamin F. Gould, 75, of McNall's Corners. Mr. Gould, who had been in ill health for some time, died late yesterday in Lockport City hospital.

Mr. Gould was born June 6, 1878, in the Town of Lockport and was a descendant of a pioneer Niagara county family. His father was E. Dwight Gould and his mother the former Gertrude Norton.

Educated in Lockport public schools, he took up farming in the Thrall road after graduating in 1897 from Lockport high school. In 1946 he retired from farming and moved to McNall's Corners. For a number of years he operated a fruit stand in Campbell boulevard. For 11 years Mr. Gould was Town of Cambria supervisor and in 1911 he was a member of the assembly. When Sheriff Alanson C. Bigalow died in office in 1923, former Governor Alfred E. Smith appointed Gould to fill the vacancy.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Jennie See Gould; a daughter, Gertrude Gould, and a brother, J. Rolland Gould, Cobblehurst, Ridge road.

Mrs. Jennie E. Gould, 88, of 133 Beattie Ave., Lockport, formerly of Warrens Corners, died Saturday, June 3, 1967 at Lockport Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born April 11, 1879 at Warrens Corners, the daughter of Jesse and Edna Forsyth See, and was a former member of the Methodist Church there.

Mrs. Gould was the widow of Benjamin F. Gould, who was active in Town of Cambria politics. He died April 30, 1953.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

John Norton Gould, 83, of Hendersonville passed away Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Four Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care's Elizabeth House following a short illness.

He was born in Lockport, N.Y., a son of the late John Rolland Gould and Carolyn Davis Gould and had been a Hendersonville area resident for most of his life.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre. A licensed real estate broker and appraiser, he was employed by Sutherland Insurance and Realty Company for more than 40 years prior to retiring in 1985. He was an avid golfer, member of the Hendersonville Country Club, Lions Club, a former member of the Hendersonville Planning Board, past president of the Henderson County Board of Realtors, was a long-time supporter of local education and was a member of the First Congregational Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Eleanor, who passed away in 2002.

He is survived by two sons, John "Chip" Gould and his wife, Elizabeth, of Hendersonville and Jeffery Norton Gould and his wife, Debra, of Flat Rock; and five grandchildren, Katie, Anna, Ashley, John and Mark.
