ATHOL - Ruth Mildred (Goodale) Rowe, 99 of Athol, died Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at home.
She was born in Athol, on November 23, 1917, the daughter of the late Lester and the late Agnes (Locke) Goodale.Ruth grew up in Athol and graduated from Athol High School with the Class of 1937. She was a member of the Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church for over 75 years. She enjoyed crocheting.
She leaves two daughters, Sharon J. Mabe and her husband Jack of Texas, Nancy L. Rowe of Athol; a son, James V. Rowe and his wife Margaret of Athol; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two nieces and two nephews.She was predeceased by two sisters, Beverly Goodale in 2013 and by Viola Goodale in 1930.

January 14, 1997ATHOL - Edmund E. Rowe, 87, of 46 Adah St., a night watchman, died Sunday in Open Arms Nursing Home, Winchendon, after an illness.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Ruth M. (Goodale) Rowe; a son, James Rowe of Athol; two daughters, Nancy L. Rowe of Athol and Sharon Mabe of Briggs, Texas; a brother, David Rowe of Athol; a sister, Evelyn Main of Greenfield; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Born in Belchertown, son of Richard and Julia (Bradley) Rowe, he lived most of his life in Athol. He attended Athol High School.
He was a night watchman 20 years at L.S. Starrett Co., retiring in 1982. He previously worked at Athol Manufacturing Co.
He was a member of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church.

Athol � Beverly Martha Goodale, 78, formerly of 416 Main Street died Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
Beverly was born in Athol, Massachusetts, October 23, 1934, the daughter of Lester D. and Agnes M. (Locke) Goodale. She grew up in Athol and has lived here most of her life.
Beverly worked for Head Start, the Cass Toy Factory, the Athol Daily News and taught Sunday School at Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church. She loved socializing with her friends, reading the newspaper, word search puzzles, bingo, avid knitter, loyal Red Sox and Bruins fan and keeping up with her grandchildren.
Beverly leaves four children, Todd M. Goodale and Adam J. Goodale and his wife Jennifer; two daughters, Barbara J. Goodale and Tracy L. Smart. She also leaves six grandchildren, Luke Smart, Nicole Smart, Todd Goodale, Jennifer Goodale, Olivia Goodale, Sam Goodale; eight great grandchildren and a sister, Ruth M. Rowe of Athol.
She was predeceased by a sister, Viola A. Goodale.

December 2, 2012Kendall Sherman Dodd, 96, passed away from heart failure on Nov. 14, 2012 in Alamogordo. He was born in 1916 in Massachusetts to Sherman W. and Ella G. Dodd. He graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, Mich. in 1933 and Wayne State College in 1939 in Detroit, Mich. He was a naval pilot during World War II and a retired naval reservist. He worked as a civil engineer for the city of Dearborn from 1948-59, the Federal Aviation Agency as a air traffic controller in Albuquerque from 1959-1961 and at White Sands Missile Range as a range controller 1961-81. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Alamogordo.
He is proceeded in death by his wife of 64 year, Corine Dodd (2009) and his son Dennis Dodd (2007).
He is survived by his sons Gerald Dodd, of Alamogordo and Keith Dodd of Albuquerque; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

December 26, 2008Dodd, Eleanor Jane - 90 years old of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on December 21, 2008. Eleanor was born on March 4, 1918 to Katherine and Charles Smith in Canton, OH and lived in Arizona for 60 years.
She was a proud member of The Early Morning Garden Club where she enjoyed flowering arranging and winning numerous awards. She will be remembered as a loving, kind, wife, mother and grandmother.
Eleanor is survived her son James R. Dodd and his wife Marianne of Litchfield Park, AZ, daughter Judith and her husband Barney Barnier of Winston Salem, NC, grandson Robert Barnier of San Diego, CA, granddaughters Gigi and her husband Vincent Burke of Eagle, ID, Jeanette and her husband Michael Towler of Lake Stevens, WA, Bobbie Moreland of Litchfield Park, AZ, Lisa Dodd and her husband Troy Azeltine of Litchfield Park, AZ, Jennifer and her husband Travis Krall of Huston, TX, Melinda Dodd of Adelaide, Australia, and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Gilbert "Russ" Dodd, her husband of 46 years.

June 28, 2002LEOMINSTER -- Annie Frances (Gettens) Goodale, 103, of 116 Biscayne St., died Thursday, June 27, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, after an illness.
Born Dec. 24, 1898 in Leominster, she was the daughter of William and Annie Marie (Sheehan) Gettens and lived here all of her life.
Mrs. Goodale was a member of the Holy Family of Nazareth Church, St. Leo's Church and the Leominster Golden Age Club. She was also an avid hat maker.
She leaves four daughters, Madeline Loiselle of Lady Lake, Fla., Sister Janice Goodale of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Leominster, Marie Farnsworth and Eleanor Goodale, both of Leominster; 32 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
Her husband, Everett B. Goodale Sr., died in 1958. She was predeceased by a son, Everett B. Goodale Jr., two daughters, Sister Mary Lorraine of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Lorraine Ruth Goodale and one brother, Leroy Gettens.

January 12, 1994DOVER, Del. - Alston L. Preston Jr., 87, of Philcris Drive, formerly of Leominster, died of cancer Monday in Kent General Hospital.
His wife, Elizabeth Mary (Campbell) Preston, died in 1981.
He leaves a son, John Preston of Dover; a daughter, Joanne Irvine of South San Gabriel, Calif.; his twin-sister, Alice Preston of Dover; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was born in Leominster, son of Alston L. Sr. and Alice L. (Goodale) Preston, and had lived in Quincy, Mass., and later in Dover for many years.
He graduated from Northeastern University.
Mr. Preston worked for General Foods many years, retiring in 1971.

April 14, 2006LEOMINSTER - Phyllis N. (Day) Carter, 87, of the Life Care Center of Leominster, formerly of 810 Lancaster St., died Friday, April 7, after an illness. She was born in Bangor, Maine on March 26, 1919, the daughter of the late Walter and Francena (Clark) Day.
Mrs. Carter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leominster and the Friendship Guild. She was a member of the former Lancaster Street School PTA, a Civil Defense Air spotter in World War II, volunteer reader at Johnny Appleseed School in Leominster, and provided child care services to pre-school children and her great-grandchildren.
Her employment included jobs at Woolworth's and Deary Bros. She and her husband hosted holiday meals for service men stationed at Fort Devens during World War II. She loved children, poetry, cowboy movies, Lawrence Welk, and helping people.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her only son, Wilbur Henry Carter, Jr. and his wife Joan (Docekal) Carter of Leominster; her grandchildren, Debra Turner of Leominster, Kirk Carter of Hudson, and Scott Carter of Harvard; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Christopher Turner of Leominster.
She was predeceased by her husband, Wilbur H. Carter, Sr. in 1962. She also had a brother, Melvin Day of Easton, who predeceased her.

February 19, 2003LUNENBURG -- Gladys M. (Merrill) Goodale, 95, of 92 Leominster Road, died Monday, Feb. 17, at home after an illness.
Her husband of 42 years, George W. Goodale, died in 1980. She leaves three sons, Glenn W. Goodale of Castleton, Vt., James R. Goodale of Eastham and John W. Goodale of Princeton; two daughters, Jane L. Nye of Onalaska, Texas, and Elizabeth G. Torre of Wilton, N.H.; a sister, Eleanor Dinsmore of Cochranton, Pa.; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She attended Lunenburg High School and graduated from the former Stevens Business College in Fitchburg. She was born in Leominster, daughter of Benjamin F. and Edith (Ropes) Merrill.
Mrs. Goodale was the welfare director for the Town of Lunenburg, and was then a welfare district director for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Fitchburg, retiring in 1972. She worked at the former Fitchburg Yarn Co. from 1927 to 1939. She was a leader of the Lunenburg 4H Club, and a member of the Fitchburg Professional Women's Club. She enjoyed making braided rugs, knitting and crocheting. She loved to travel and was an avid reader. She spent winters in Florida, and summers in Ashburnham.
