Black Mountain - Irene Woodward Lilienthal, 89, died Thursday July 4, 2002 at Asheville Health Care Center.
She was the daughter of the late Fred W. and Irene Hedgepeth Woodward. She was predeceased by two husbands, Rowland Emerson Hamly and Henry F. Lilienthal; two sisters; and a brother.
She is survived by her daughter Irene Hamly of Black Mountain, NC; a son Rowland Hamly and his wife Sue of International Falls, Minn.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Rosemary Haskell Hamly passed away on 4 September 1997 at John Knox Village in Pompano Beach, Florida.
She is survived by her sister Catherine, her brother Charles, and many nieces and nephews.
Born in Denver in 1915, Rosemary has a proud heritage in the west. Her grandfather, Charles Emerson, was a Colorado pioneer and a founder of the Union Colony at Greeley. In fact, he defeated Horace Greeley himself in the election for the office of Treasurer of the colony.
Rosemary's mother, Rose Emerson, was born in Greeley.
During her high school years Rosemary lived in Picton, Ontario, just east of Port Hope where her paternal grandfather, Thomas Hamly, made his home as an immigrant shoemaker from Devon, England. Her father, Stanley V Hamly, was born there. Rosemary's paternal grandmother, Mary Margaret Haskell, was a descendant of William Haskell and Elinor Foule.
In 1933 the family moved to Coconut Grove, Florida where they had visited and lived for short periods since the early twenties. Rosemary graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Florida State College for Women (now FSU) in 1937 and went to work as a medical laboratory technician in Philadelphia. Rosemary later came back to Coconut Grove and went back to school to study Medical Administration. She became the office manager for a family practice with several doctors which she ran successfully for many years.
During the years in both Philadelphia and later in Florida, Rosemary and her sister Catherine also ran the silkscreen printing business at home, where they designed and printed cards and posters. Rosemary and Catherine were always involved in the arts and traveled extensively during the last 20 years.

Charlie Hamly was born in Denver in 1919. His family settled in Coconut Grove, FL, in the 1920s. Charlie made several notable contributions during WWII: Stationed at the Hillsborough Lighthouse, he was among the crew of a surfboat that rescued people from a torpedoed and burning ship just before it exploded. He was given a gold lifesaving medal for that rescue by the town. As the operator of a picket boat in Miami Harbor, he rescued the residents of Elliot Key and the other keys during the 1945 hurricane. As a First Class Boatswain's Mate, he was master of his own submarine chaser on independent duty patrolling thousands of miles of the Caribbea
After WWII, Charlie went back to the University of Miami for a degree in Business. He worked his way up to Vice President of American Bankers Insurance Company. He was an early member of the Coconut Sailing Club, serving as Commodore and in other positions of responsibility In 1974, Charlie Hamly built a house in Key Largo and helped found the Upper Keys Sailing Club, serving as Commodore. After retirement in 1975, Charles embarked upon a life of cruising the East Coast and the Bahamas full time in various sail boats and finally in his well known trawler yacht, "New Moon."
Charlie Hamly was predeceased by his three siblings, Rowland Emerson Hamly, Catherine Hill Hamly and Rosemary Haskell Hamly; and by his grandson, Hayden McClay Stucker.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Alice (Hoskins) Hamly; his son and daughter-in-law, Richard Dana Hamly and Gloria Page Hamly; his daughter, Charlene Hamly; his grandchildren, Charles Emerson Hamly, Catherine Dana de Jager, Trevor Haynes Doetsch, Otto Edward Soderman, Ara Rose Soderman, Ada Jeanne Soderman, Asa Lloyd Soderman; and eleven great grandchildren.Charlie Hamly passed away on April 11, 2008 at age 89 at the LifePath Hospice Center in Sun City Florida.

May 10, 1959Lewis C. Hamley, 81, a native of Port Hope, Ont., Can., and a resident of Santa Cruz for about five years, died Friday in a local nursing home. He came to the United States in 1914 and settled in Oakland. He worked for the Pacifice Gas and Electric company out of San Francisco for more than 25 years, retiring after Wprld War II.
He is sirvived by a son, Lewis W. Hamly of Santa Cruz; a daughter, Miaa Nadine Hamly of San Francisco; a brother, Bruce Hamly of Vancouver, B.C./, and three grandchildren, Robert, Lewis W. II, and Vicky Hamly, all of Oakland
