July 15, 2010WELLESLEY - Lowell Alfred Warren, Jr., 84, died at the Faulkner Hospital, Boston MA, on Sunday, July 4, 2010. He was born & raised in Waltham, the son of Lowell A. Warren & Margaret Belcher Warren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Roseda (Clark), sons Elliot Clark Warren of Sanford, FL; Dwight Richard Warren, his wife Sheila (Kelly), their sons Geoffrey Clark & Mitchell Thomas Warren, of Waltham, MA; daughter Melissa Goddu Warren and her husband Joseph A Bolles of Medford, MA; & Lowell A. Warren, III of Boston, son of a previous marriage.
Hewas a graduate of the Belmont Hill School, 1943 & Harvard College, 1950. He enlisted in the US Army in June of 1943 & served in the Asiatic/Pacific Theatre. He was with the first occupation troops in Japan prior to discharge in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve, 1956-1977, retiring with the rank of Lt. Col. Mr. Warren began his professional career in the investment business with The First Boston Corp. For several years he was with The Dominion Securities Corp., of New York & Toronto, as regional manager, general partner & vice president of the company.
He joined the John Hancock Mutual Life Insurance Company in 1977, where he was a senior investment officer in the Bond Department. Following retirement in 1990, he continued in financial activity as an arbitrator for the New York Stock Exchange & the National Assoc. of Securities Dealers Arbitration Panel.
Reflecting his lifelong interest in history, he served as member and chair of finance/investment committees of numerous non-profit organizations, including the Harvard Club of Boston, Treasurer and member of Board of Governors, and chair of Audit and Trustee Pension and Retirement committee; the New England Historical and Genealogical Society, Trustee and Treasurer; Old South Association of Boston, (Old South Meeting House) president; Massachusetts Society of May flower Descendents, chair, Investment Committee; Society of Colonial Wars, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Trustee and Treasurer. He was also a life member of the Massachusetts Historical Society and a life member of The Boston Athenaeum where he served as a museum docent for many years. He was appointed to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Historical Commission in 1989 and retired in 2009. He responded to the appeal of any worthy small historical preservation effort and was a member ofalonglist of small regional historical organizations. He was a Wellesley Town Meeting Member for close to 40 years & a member of the Wellesley Historical Commission.
