June 17, 2000Ethel Leona Capen Ward, 96, died June 15, 2000, at Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris.
She was born here, a daughter of Susan and Charles Capen, and attended elementary schools in Bethel and graduated from Gould Academy in 1922. She attended college in Ithaca, N.Y., for a year, then graduated from Farmington State Teachers College in 1961, completing her degree through correspondence courses and summer sessions.
She taught in the Bethel schools for more than 30 years.
She married Willis W. Ward of Conway, N.H., on Nov. 26, 1927. He died May 27, 1977.
Mrs. Ward was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and the fish and game associations. For many years she was also a member of the Home Extension.
She took many trips with the senior citizens on the Main Line Tours buses and also made a trip to Hawaii. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, gardening and quilting. She started quilting in 1973 and had since made 13 hand-sewn quilts plus many machine made ones and gave many to her grandchildren. She also did hand work year-round for the Friday Gift Shop, kept open all summer by the United Methodist Women of Bethel.
A grandson, Michael, died in 1987.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Lurvey of Standish and Joan Howe of Bethel; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Gailey was educated in Bethel schools, graduating from Gould Academy in 1953.
She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, where she had served as choir director and was involved with the church suppers for many years.
She had worked for most of her life at Hanover Dowell Wood Products, where she developed many lifelong friends.
She is survived by four devoted daughters, Mitzi L. Scott and her husband, Robert, of Peru, Roxy McLeod and her husband, Dennis, of Albany, Angela McLean and her husband, Russell, of Bethel, and Shannon Friel and her companion, Mark Hindman, of Bethel; a son-in-law, Patrick Friel of Dixfield; two sisters, Kathleen Hanscom and her husband, Rodney, and Delores Williams and her companion, Louie DeleVallee, all of Bethel; 15 grandchildren, Ryan, Josh, K.B., Denny, Missy, Sean, Megan, Pam, Shawna, Travis, Seth, Brian, Angie, Karen and Gary; seven great grandchildren, Eric, Shia, Adreanna, Morgan, Alli, Mckenzie and Ben.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lynwood A. Wheeler; a grandson, Michael McLean; son-in-law Scott Robson; brothers, Kenneth Brooks, Bob Brooks and Maurice Brooks; a sister, Violet Chretien; and her parents.
Worcester Telegram & Gazette (MA)February 24, 1990LEOMINSTER - Harold A. Corbett, of 290 Joslin St. died Feb. 13 in Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg, after an illness.
He leaves his wife, Anna (Nass) Corbett; two sons, Daniel H. Corbett of Fitchburg and James Corbett of Hidden Valley, N.Y. He was born in Gorham, N.H., son of Edmond and Ida (Moore) Corbett, and lived here many years.
Mr. Corbett was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European theater. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Mr. Corbett was a machinist at General Electric Co. in Fitchburg for 18 years, before retiring many years ago.

November 21, 1995LEOMINSTER - Anna I. (Nass) Corbett, 74, of 290 Joslin St., died Sunday in Burbank Hospital, Fitchburg, after an illness.
Her husband was the late Harold A. Corbett. She leaves a son, Daniel H. Corbett; a brother, Leo T. Nass; a sister, Lillian Nass, all of Leominster; and a grandson. She was born in Leominster, daughter of Irvin and Catherine (Flaherty) Nass.
Mrs. Corbett was a member of St. Bernard's Church, Fitchburg.

October 10, 1996Raymond E. Cummings, 87, of Nash Road died Wednesday at a Portland hospital.
Born at Albany, a son of Stephen E. and Mabel Baker Cummings, he attended Kennebunk and Portland schools. Mr. Cummings worked in the grocery business for First National Stores in Portland. He also worked for the former White Brothers stores in Cape Elizabeth and for A & P in Portland.
Mr. Cummings owned and operated Ray's Cash Market on Sherman Street in Portland. He also worked for the John J. Nissen Baking Co. and delivered in the Brunswick area. Later he worked for S.D. Warren Co. for 26 years, retiring in 1973.
He moved here in 1948 from Westbrook, where he had owned and operated Ray's Bike Shop before moving it to Windham.
Mr. Cummings was a member and past chancellor commander of Piscatiqua Lodge, Knights of Pythias; former member of the Triangle Club and was instrumental in its development; member of Windham Drifters Snowmobile Club; the Maine Snowmobiler's Association; Pine Crafters; Good Sam Club; and an honorary member of the Lake Region Good Sam Club.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, motorcycling, snowmobiling and visiting coffee shops. His CB handle was ''Putt Putt.''
Surviving him are his wife, Ethel L. Horr Cummings of Windham; two daughters, Nellie R. Knight of Windham and Elizabeth R. Cummings of Gray; two grandchildren, Jennifer R. and Caleb E. Cummings, both of Gray.

February 14, 1999Avis M. Rand, 93, died Friday at Bridgton Health Care Center following a brief illness.
She was born in Sweden, Maine, a daughter of Lindon and Myra Cummings Merrill. She attended Sweden schools and was a graduate of Bridgton High School.
Mrs. Rand had been employed as a moccasin lacer at the Sioux Moccasin Company in Harrison.
She married Beryl Rand on June 8, 1929.
She was a member of the Bridgton Christian Alliance Church.
A son, Paul Rand, died in 1997.
Surviving are her husband of Harrison; two sons, Arthur Rand of Norway and John Rand of Harrison; two daughters, Lillian Rich of Florida and Linda A. Knight of Harrison; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
