October 22, 1996Bertha L. Thompson, 92, of Suffolk Street died unexpectedly Sunday at her home.
She was born in Friendship, a daughter of Olando and Jennie Burgess Lawry, and attended local schools.
In June 1920, she married Eugene Thompson. He died Oct. 15, 1952.
Mrs. Thompson resided on Suffolk Street for more than 40 years.
She was a seamstress for Van Baalen Pacific.
She was a member of Owls Head Grange, the Darmeta Club, the Rebekahs and the World War I VFW Auxiliary.
Her companion, Arthur Williams, with whom she had resided for many years, died in 1990.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth Thompson of Glen Cove; four daughters, Mrs. Clayton (Jennie) Witham of Owls Head, Mrs. Toivo (Lucie T.) Suomela of Westbrook and Port Charlotte, Fla., Mrs. Russell (Grace) Stellings of Portland, and Mrs. Glennice Simmons of Rockland; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Everett Lafayette Thompson was a yachtsman at age 26 (1900 US Federal Census for Deer Isle).
Francis T. Marshall at age at age 35 was a yachtsman at the time of his marriage to Lulu Young. At age 46 he is listed as a merchant in the 1920 Federal Census for Deer Isle.
Rockland Free PressLawrence H. 'Bar' Lord, 94, died Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at Zephyr Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center in Florida. Born in Rockland, March 28, 1917, he was the son of Captain Alfred G. and Harriet Haskins Lord. Educated in local schools, he was a 1936 graduate of Rockland High School.
As a Junior in high school, Lawrence began playing semi-pro baseball with the Pirates, which later became the Collegiates. Lawrence was also instrumental in establishing a city softball team, the AMACOS who won several championships.
Following high school he was first employed as manager of Lords Tire & Battery Service at Maverick Square, until entering the U.S. Army Air Corp in 1942. He completed aircraft mechanic training at Shaw Field in South Carolina, and Bainbridge Field in Georgia. After attending Lockheed School in California, he served as Crew Chief on a B29 at McDill Air Force Base.
On August 5th, 1944 he married Margaret Mills, in New York City. She died in 1998. On August 1st, 2000, he married Vera E. Thompson Johnson. They continued to winter in Florida and spent summers in Rockland. Vera died August 4, 2010, in Zephyr Hills, Florida.
Returning to civilian life, he worked four years at the Thomaston Cement Plant before beginning his commercial fishing career aboard the FV OKWA, with his brother Sherman Lord as Captain. In December of 1948, he began as a crew member aboard the FV Jacob Pike which had recently been built at Newbert & Wallace Ship yard in Thomaston. He served on that vessel out of Rockland from 1948 to 1968. During the winter months when not fishing, Lawrence delivered oil for both McLoon's Oil Company and Kalloch Oil Company.
In 1968, he bought the Rockland Bowling Center, which he owned and operated until 1983.
Lawrence was a member of the Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church.
Other than both his wives, Lawrence was pre-deceased by a daughter Gloria Austin; two brothers, Sherman H. Lord and Ronald G. Lord; and a sister Berla Lord Wixon. He is survived by a daughter Jane E. Wenisch and her husband William of Norway, one grandson Kenneth L. Chase and his wife Melissa; two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Dylan all of Liberty; an adopted grandson Troy Davis of Florida; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in Glen Cove Cemetery, Rockport.
Alexander Abbott Thompson was a yachtsman. At age 48 he is listed as an estate caretaker (1930 Federal Census for Deer Isle) and at age 55 he is listed as a gardener.

Volume 14, No. 2, June 2005MARIE A. ANDREWS, 79, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, USA, died on February 3, 2005 at a Portland, Maine, USA, hospital following a brief illness.
Marie (Chickie) was born in Deer Isle, daughter of Ellic A. and Mabel Haskell Thompson. She graduated from Deer Isle High School and was a member of the First Congregational Church in Deer Isle.
Surviving include her husband of 59 years, Howard Andrews, daughter Sharon Thompson and husband Brad, son David W. Andrews and wife Sharalyn, grandchildren Chris and Becky Thompson, niece Alice Shephard, grand nephews Jason and Jeff Kinder, and cousins Grace Beebe and Winthrop Haskell.
Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in the spring.

Volume 15, No. 4, December 2006HOWARD C. ANDREWS 84, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, USA, died following a short stay in hospital, 29 September 2006, surrounded by his loving family. His loving wife of over 50 years, Marie Thompson Andrews, predeceased him in 2005. Mr. Andrews was son of john W. and Louella Palmer Andrews and a master mechanical craftsman for Peerless Welding for many years, retiring in 1983.
Survivors include his daughter, Sharon (Mrs. Brad) Thompson; son, David W. (Sharalyn) Andrews; grandchildren, Chris and Becky; brother, Arden Andrews of Farmington; sister, Marilyn Estrada of West Paris; several nieces and nephews, the latter including IHFS members Jeffrey (Karen) and Jason (Maureen) Kinder; and cousin, Winthrop (Gertrude) Haskell.

September 25, 2008Bangor - Clara M. Albert, 94, wife of the late Francis G. Albert, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008, at a local health care facility. She was born Aug. 18, 1913, in Castine, the daughter of Joel and Mattie (Thompson) Perkins. Clara was educated in Castine schools, where she was class valedictorian. She attended Castine Normal School, and for many years was employed by Castine Cemetery Association. She loved genealogy and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and doing craftwork. Clara found great comfort and joy in her relationship with her church family.
She is survived by two daughters, Vanessa and her husband, Roger Archer, of Holden and Linda Bower of Bangor; five grandchildren, Deborah Parker of Dracut, Mass., Paul Parker of Wheaton, Ill., Robert Bower and Lori Bower, both of Orrington and David Bower of South Portland; and eight great-grandchildren, Jeremy, Kieran, Jessica, Mrlissa, Krista, Bria, Taylor and Nicholas.
Arthur Marshall was a steward.
Gilman Marshall served in the US Coast Guard during WW2.

January 16, 2010SUNSET - Edith P. Marshall, 95, passed away Jan. 2, 2010, at her home. She was born July 14, 1914, in Deer Isle, the daughters of John S. and Martha (Smith) Pickering.
Edith taught school on the island for many years, was a long time organist at Sunset Congregational Church and a charter member of Deer Isle Historical Society.
She is survived by her five children, Janet L. Snowden of Deer Isle, John E. Snowden and his wife, Catherine, of Deer Isle, Darrell J. Snowden and his wife, Joice, of Delaware, Ohio, Martha A. Fougere and her husband, Kenneth, of Deer Isle, and Pamela E. Gray and her husband, Douglas, of Bucksport. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Jason G. Snowden and Gilman Marshall; her brother, Archie W. Pickering; a son, Robert W. Snowden; and grandsons, Barry L., Robert L. and Marshall J. Thompson.
