Mrs. Rice, who died Sunday in the Memorial hospital, following a brief illness, was born in Wareham, 76 years ago, the daughter of Frank and Ann (Sherman) Haskell, and had been a resident of Chelsea for 45 years.
She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Lillian Burns of East Boston and Mrs. Josephine Dalessio of this city, anf three sons, James and Austin of this city and Oliver Rice of Revere.

He was the brother of Mary Bigley of Everett.
He was a late member of Local No/ 589, Boston Carmen Union. He died Sunday.
Chelsea RecordJosephine (Rice) Lawlor, 87, of Chelsea, died March 19, 1992, at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford after a long illness.
Born in Bourne, Mrs. Lawlor lived most of her life in Chelsea. She was a forelady for a shoe factory.
She was the wife of the late William H. Lawlor; daughter of the late William H. ans Mary E. (Haskell) Rice; and aunt of Ellen and Frank Delaney. She is also survived by many neices and nephews.

Bill's grandparents were Captain Francis "Frank" Haskell 2nd and Phebe Carman of Deer Isle, Maine. Captain Frank drowned by accident in Boston Harbor on March 11, 1839.
Bill's parents were Francis Haskell "Frank" of Deer Isle, Maine and Buzzards Bay and Priscilla Ann Robbins "Ann" of Bowden, ME and Buzzards Bay. Bill's father drowned by accident in the Monument River on November 13, 1890.
Bill married Harriett Maria Frances Grew "Hattie" of Wareham and Falmouth on February 29, 1928. He was a Laborer and he and Hattie lived in the Happy Hollow area of Buzzards Bay. They lived next door to Bill's brother Frank and Hattie's aunt Ellen (Sherman) Haskell.
Bill died by accidental strangulation. He was teasing his Hattie pretending that he was going to hang himself, after doing this many times before. On this particular late evening on Saturday, September 9, 1949, he did hang himself.

Gloria R. Haskell, age 86, of Falmouth died May 11, 2020 after a sudden illness. She was a beloved Wife, Mother, Sister, and Grandmother.
Gloria was born June 27, 1933 to the late Edward and Jessie Cash, of Waquoit, MA. She was married to the late Hiram Haskell.
Gloria had a successful career at the Falmouth Hospital for over 40 years as a Phlebotomist and was loved by her fellow colleagues and community. Gloria was also an active member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.
Gloria enjoyed her family gathering, especially through the holidays. Mom loved the water, and remembered her childhood being at the Waquoit Bay with her family members and children. She also enjoyed gardening during the warm weather and being outside with Mother Earth. Horseback riding was another passion of Gloria's. She enjoyed riding in the Waquoit woods, enjoying the trails that went to South Cape Beach, always bringing her back to the ocean.
Gloria leaves behind two sons, Raymond Peters, of Boston, MA, and Donald Peters, of Waquoit, MA; surviving siblings Francis Hendricks, of Falmouth, MA, and Beverly Cash, of Waquoit, MA; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by Stacey Peters, Jr., Charles Peters, Albert Peters, Norma Peters, James Peters, Darlene Peters, and Hiram Haskell, Jr.

July 7, 2019BUZZARDS BAY - William Henry Haskell, Jr., 86, a lifelong resident of Buzzards Bay passed away on July 1st, 2019 at Beth Israel Hospital in Plymouth, MA.
Born on January 27, 1933 at St. Luke's hospital in New Bedford, MA he was the son of the late William and Harriet (Grew) Haskell and is survived by his former wife Rita (Cyr) Haskell and his good friends Richard and Lucille Farrar of Forestdale, Dan of Monument Beach, MA and Ella of Wareham, MA. He attended Bourne High school. Bill entered the U.S Army in May of 1951 and served 2 years during the Korean War. Upon returning home he played semi pro football for the Falmouth All Stars for 2 years.
Bill worked for the U.S. Army corps of Engineers for 35 years at the Cape Cod Canal where he received several awards before retiring on January 30, 1988. He also worked for the Barnstable Public Schools for 8 years.
He was a member of many organizations. As a Mason he was a lifelong member of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts A.F and A.M and DeWitt Clinton Lodge in Sandwich. Bill was also a member of Mariners Lodge in Cotuit, Scottish Rite 32nd degree in Wareham and Aleppo Temple Shrine where he served as a Lieutenant on the lighting unit, Demolay Dad and member and past president of the Weary Travelers Club. Other organizations include life membership in the American Legion Post 188 Sandwich, MA and life membership in Wareham Elks 1648 where he worked the popular bingo nights for many years.
Bill was a member of St. Peters Church on the canal for many years. For many years he opened the church on Sundays, served as an usher and volunteered at the Friendly Kitchen meals for the community.

March 24, 1937Buzzards Bay - Frank Haskell died Friday from strabulation at the home of his brother William H. Haskell in this village from attempting to swallow a large piece of raw steak. He started from the tablr to the sink to get a drink of water but fell dead on the floor before he could reach it. When Dr. Abraham Krakower of Buzzards Bay arrived at the Haskell home, Frank was dead. Dr. E. F. Curry, medical examiner and M.D. from Sagamore, was also summoned.
Mr. Haskell, a fisherman, was born in town 50 years ago, the son of Frank and Ann Haskell. Besides his widow and brother, he leaves five children, Mrs. Bertha Robinson, La Mesa, Cal., Lewis E., Er5nest H., Harold R., and Frank Jr. of this village; five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Rice of Cjelsea (Boston) and Mrs. Lucretia Staples of Cohasset.

Ernie married Edith Forslund.
Ernie was a fisherman all of his life in and successfully caught and sold scallops, oysters, eels, as well as all kinds of fish. He would fillet the fish, skin the eels, and shuck the shellfish, and then sell his catch at local fish markets. He would build his own small boats for fishing. Ernie followed the fishing profession as did his father Francis William Haskell, his grandfather Francis Haskell of Deer Isle, Maine and Buzzards Bay, and his great grandfather Captain Francis Haskell of Deer Isle, Maine.

While in high school, she played the bugle. Edith had many friends. She was sociable, pleasant, and a good friend. Edith married Ernest (Ernie) Haskell after a 10 year courtship.
Edith was a former member of the Parkway Community Church in Milton, MA, St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Grange, and the Bourne Mother's Club.
Edith died of cancer at age 47 in 1957 and her funeral service was officiated by Dr. William E. LIttlewood of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Buzzards Bay.

She married Harold Roland Haskell Jun 28 1935 in E. Wareham, Mass., USA, and her occupation was a waitress. There were no children from this union,and her recorded descendant is Thomas Pierce. Florence died as a result of cancer of the uterus in Heywood Memorial Hospital, Gardner, Mass.,her residence at that time was Pillsbury Rd., Ashby, Mass. She was a member of First Parish Church, in Ashby.
Oliver O. Staples was a stone mason and laborer.

October 23, 1968Chester B. Eaton, 77, died at his Stonington, Maine home Tuesday. He was born April 14, 1891 at Deer Isle, Maine, the son of Peter H. and Minnie (Knowlton) Eaton.
He was a member of the RLDS Church of Stonington, the Marine Lodge of Masons, member of Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor, Pine Tree Chapter of Deer Isle, Commandery in Ellsworth, and past patron of IOOF and vice presidnet of Stonington Library Association.
For many years, he worked as a stone cutter and seaman. He then opened Eaton's Variety Store in Stonington. At the time of his death, he was a selectman.
Surviving are a daughter, son, stepson, two grandchildren; sister, two brothers, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

January 16, 2010SUNSET - Edith P. Marshall, 95, passed away Jan. 2, 2010, at her home. She was born July 14, 1914, in Deer Isle, the daughters of John S. and Martha (Smith) Pickering.
Edith taught school on the island for many years, was a long time organist at Sunset Congregational Church and a charter member of Deer Isle Historical Society.
She is survived by her five children, Janet L. Snowden of Deer Isle, John E. Snowden and his wife, Catherine, of Deer Isle, Darrell J. Snowden and his wife, Joice, of Delaware, Ohio, Martha A. Fougere and her husband, Kenneth, of Deer Isle, and Pamela E. Gray and her husband, Douglas, of Bucksport. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Jason G. Snowden and Gilman Marshall; her brother, Archie W. Pickering; a son, Robert W. Snowden; and grandsons, Barry L., Robert L. and Marshall J. Thompson.
Gilman Marshall served in the US Coast Guard during WW2.
